Happy Birthday to My Dad

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 11:42 am

As I have done every March 17 since I started this blog, I am wishing my Dad a Happy Birthday.

It is a tradition to note my previous similar posts on this special day. And so, I am doing it again on this special day.

He would have been 99 today.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I have some Guinness, as well as most of a bottle of Irish whiskey recently supplied to me by JVW, so I am well fortified for the evening.

  1. As I have said in recent years, some of the earlier links are broken, for reasons I have explained before. (Fighting an army of Russian trollbots, I made a poor decision that caused the first couple of years of the blog to go poof. I think the posts are mostly from the Blogspot days and are retrievable, but I have not bothered because aside from March 17, nobody notices the posts are gone.)

  6. I honor this day each year, Patterico.

If you get a chance, Writers Tears is a good Irish whiskey. The SF author Spider Robinson recommends it, and I agree.

  7. Happy birthday to your old man.
I’ve already had a pint of Guinness this afternoon, which I’ll retroact as a toast.

  8. It’s funny, Patterico. I have never been a beer drinker. Trust me, that was seen as very weird in graduate school. I much preferred a gin and tonic.

Anyway, when my wife and I were in Ireland, I thought, well, I need to try a Guiness. And it was awfully good in a pub in Dublin.

  10. When Trump himself has no idea what he means by what he says, how can anybody else be expected to?

Forget Trump! He is a fait accompli. He will have sucked the Republican Party to a dry husk by November.

What we can do is help starve his maggots. If they endorse Trump or if Trump endorses them, don’t give them your money or your votes.

  16. Happy Birthday, Pat. It’s also my granddad’s b’day, though March 17 was just his rough approximation. (They didn’t keep birth records in 19th century Belorussian shtetls.)
