Weiner Presser at Four (Update: Weiner Admits Much of It)
[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here. Or by Twitter @AaronWorthing.]
BIG UPDATE: He’s admitting it!!! More coverage as we go forward. I am not sure it is a full mea culpa, but we’ll find out as we go. So apparently he decided to follow something close to my advice. Btw, how does Mike Stack get his reputation back?
Big UPDATE (II): From a breaking news Cnn email:
Rep. Anthony Weiner apologized for falsely claiming that his Twitter account had been hacked after a lewd photo showed up over Memorial Day weekend.
The New York Democrat admitted to having engaged in “several inappropriate relationships” with women he met online though never in person, but said he was not resigning.
And Mediaite speculates that the Clintons are giving them marital advice. I am sure Hillary can teach Huma how to brave humiliation with the promise of political power…
Update: I can’t watch it, but I am hearing many reports that somehow Breitbart has managed to take over Weiner’s conference. As in, he is at the podium, talking.
So how about we discuss predictions, dirty jokes, etc. in this thread?
The New York Post Proclaims it will carry it live. I haven’t tracked down a link for it, yet. Update: here’s a link that might work.
Update (II): This link definitely works.
Update (III): Live blogging of it, here.
Update (IV): And we get more explicit sexting from him.
Place your bets: will he deny it and fight, or resign to sulk away in shame spend more time with his family?
Update: How’s this for carrying water? MSNBC on the Breitbart photos:
For the second time this year, the internet is abuzz with photos of what appears to be a shirtless, married congressman from New York.
Appear to be? Yeah, that is putting it mildly:

I mean seriously, I would find that line excusable if they included the pictures themselves, but instead they give us a lecture about how untrustworthy Breitbart supposedly is:
Breitbart’s tactics are generally eyed with some suspicion by objective news sources. His exposure of a speech by Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod led to a media brouhaha over her perceived racist statements before a full screening of the edited video revealed manipulation of her words; he was also involved in the 2009 controversy around a heavily edited video by James O’Keefe that contributed to the demise of ACORN.
See how they make it sound like Sherrod wasn’t really racist? Oh, except she was, she just later, stopped being so racist. And indeed Chris Matthews even defended Brietbart…
Before that was memory holed. And yes, the Acorn videos were heavily edited. Because guess what? You expect people to sit through hours and hours of video. But regardless they released the unedited videos and they were just as bad as they seemed.
And probably for attribution purposes, I should include a link to Breitbart’s post. Bluntly, Breitbart deserves all the attention he is getting.

Breaking News: Barney Frank has issued several subpoenas on Andrew Breitbart, seeking the “ready” pic.

One of Chick Hearn’s (the late basketball announcer for the Los Angeles Lakers for you folks outside Southern California) “Chick isms” was “The mustard’s on the hot dog.”
Of course Chick meant the game was won by that expression. In Weiner’s case, it looks like Little Tony is going to lose this one.
Comment by Comanche Voter — 6/6/2011 @ 12:57 pm
He will stay in, but go to sex rehab. So, has Tommy Xtopher withdrawn his “yellow journalism” screed against Breitbart, yet? That is – of course – rhetorical.
Comment by lovedinthekeys — 6/6/2011 @ 12:58 pm
I predict that he’s going to double-down, call it a distraction, attack the sources and Breitbart…
He’s not going to resign. He’s one of the most liberal Dems there is. People like him don’t resign – they expect their allies and the media to have their backs and largely he’s correct to assume that.
He’s not going anywhere.

After Andrew just finished, I’m thinking the Congressman doesn’t want to do the press event now…
Or is REALLY regretting the common practice of “making the press wait”.

I think I did it wrong. I’m still listening to MSNBC lamenting that we are talking about this meaningless issue, rather than how the tax code was ORIGINALLY INTENDED TO REDISTRIBUTE WEALTH and what not.

You can tell that this is really painful for Weiner…
I’m loving it.
I have the biggest Shadenb*ner I have ever had…
Comment by Scott Jacobs — 6/6/2011 @ 1:35 pm
I am enjoying a little schadenfreude by browsing Kos and DU.
“The picture was me and I sent it”
And apparently several women from facebook got these kinds of messages. Yet very, very few of them came out. That’s pretty disturbing. It takes an awful lot of lockstep discipline for many women to know a sitting Congressman is lying, and only one of them actually report the truth (this latest release). Why weren’t more coming out, and sooner? This country has a real sickness of partisanship, and those women were loyalists. That’s my guess.
Also, this really does absolutely destroy the PatriotUSA is up to something story. I know some will insist it doesn’t (that Weiner claims he sent the picture, but didn’t), however that would give PatriotUSA the power to expose Weiner’s lie, so that’s not what happened.
No. PatriotUSA tried to share the truth about a problem he had with a congressman, and a lot of people betrayed certain principles such as letting a journalist’s source stay anonymous. Remember that if you know something. Pay attention to which journalists can be trusted, and which will try to burn you for their ego and some more attention.
I’m glad this is over. It is over, now, right?
Comment by Dustin — 6/6/2011 @ 1:37 pm
Notice the flag pin on his lapel, is that a usual prop for him?
Comment by BT — 6/6/2011 @ 1:37 pm
I bet the Kos Kids refuse to believe Weiner and continue to blame Breitbart. Joan Walsh will claim the real Weiner is being held outside Roswell and that she found pods in the basement. And Tommy Christopher and the writers at Mediaite will take the next month off for treatment straightening out their spines that they have twisted into pretzels defending him.
Comment by MU789 — 6/6/2011 @ 1:37 pm
he denied doing drugs without being asked
he’s totally a pothead I think
Comment by happyfeet — 6/6/2011 @ 1:40 pm
Yeah, I think the crying I saw was 100% sincere.
I’ve met this guy, and I actually thought he was a pretty decent person, but apparently he’s a jackass and a complete liar.
I’m not watching the conference anymore, but my guess is that he’s not bothering to explain what gives him the right to report (via staff) that his computer security was hacked. That’s a serious accusation to toss out, and this guy has a security clearance he shouldn’t be trusted with. Would he have sold state secrets if the Chinese had found this scandal first? It’s a reasonable question.
Anyway, as real as his pain may be, his law firm probably planned many steps of this awful PR Crisis, and hopefully they are relied on many times in the future by other politicians I want to fall on their face.
Comment by Dustin — 6/6/2011 @ 1:41 pm
Now that he’s got it out there, so to speak, he’s at least manning up and owning it. Refusing to blame alcohol or drugs, no sexual addiction crap, etc.
“I apologize to Andrew Brietbart.”
Comment by carlitos — 6/6/2011 @ 1:41 pm
I would love to make campaign ads this cycle.
Comment by JD — 6/6/2011 @ 1:41 pm
The real question is – how can MSNBC and Chucky Johnson at Teeny Weeny Green Balls blame this on Palin?
Comment by MU789 — 6/6/2011 @ 1:43 pm
“You give good head?” the embattled and married New York congressman asked the woman on March 16, this year.
She responded: “I’ve been told really good…and i love doing it.”
At that point, 46-year-old Weiner declared: “wow a jewish girl who sucks (bleep)! this thing is ready to do damage.”
Comment by happyfeet — 6/6/2011 @ 1:43 pm
I think Paul Rever was really on a mission to warn us about politicians like Anthony Weiner. I bet Morning Slow Joe will make fun of Palin for not knowing that.
Comment by MU789 — 6/6/2011 @ 1:47 pm
Anthony Weiner for Mayor of New York. When he makes a bad decision: he will cry harder than any Republican ever cries. I think just the five seconds of crying that I saw doomed his reputation as a leader. Is the rest of the speech that weak?
That young lady who lied to help cover for him, Cordova, deserves her reputation. I think we can assume that every professionally written letter defending Weiner was 100% dishonest.
I wonder, did Weiner’s lawyers know they were lies when they wrote them?
Comment by Dustin — 6/6/2011 @ 1:47 pm
You know what jewish men love about blowjobs? The peace and quiet.

Comment by carlitos — 6/6/2011 @ 1:48 pm
The story shouldn’t be over… I want people to investigate whether Weiner’s people coerced “Betty” and “Veronica” to lie to cover up this incident (with money or worse)
Comment by JFH — 6/6/2011 @ 1:48 pm
It will be interesting to see if any of his victims/on-line pals, etc bring any civil suits against him. Let’s hope.

so who was responsible for the Smoking Gun’s vicious anal rape of Mike Stack?
Comment by happyfeet — 6/6/2011 @ 1:50 pm
The scary thing is that Weiner is one of the 535 that pass laws we have to follow and he isn’t smart enough to know that stuff he sends on the internet is easily traceable back to him. Hasn’t he ever watched an episode of Law and Order or any other cop show in the last ten years?
Comment by MU789 — 6/6/2011 @ 1:50 pm
This has to be awful for his wife. Who talks to women like that, anyway? It’s like I’m from a different planet sometimes.
Comment by Dustin — 6/6/2011 @ 1:52 pm
Ridiculous, who cares.. Sorry. Yeah, the snarky dem isn’t going anywhere. President Destruction’s off the radar as long as this asinine story gets coverage. Give him the Chris Lee-Mark Foley treatment. These twitter kerfluffles are just going to become a regular thing. Politicians operate on the John Edwards entitlement level. Do whatever whenever however they want. And lie when caught. (I do appreciate Breitbart though for his unique brand of antiseptic.)
Comment by Vermont Neighbor — 6/6/2011 @ 1:52 pm
so who was responsible for the Smoking Gun’s vicious anal rape of Mike Stack?
Well since there was only one party to this story that had a motive for sliming Stack it’s pretty easy to point the finger at Weiner. I wonder how much the law firms fee is to do what they did?
Comment by MU789 — 6/6/2011 @ 1:52 pm
I think one of Howard Stern’s people snuck in, shouting “Will you support Arnold’s love child?” and “Were you fully erect, or were you capable of more?”
Not a happy ending.
Comment by carlitos — 6/6/2011 @ 1:53 pm
Too much, I’m guessing. What a disaster.
And I do think that should be a focus. It’s much more interesting looking at the people who attacked honest messengers with paranoia and fury. Weiner, no doubt, was behind some of it.

I hope he stays on and loses in 2012, which is somewhat possible.
And if he doesn’t lose in 2012, let him stay in office, as an illustration of the culture of corruption.
My only concern is that he probably has many other skeletons in his closet and is not fit to be trusted with power or secrets.

Water sure is heavy, as I said before. Let’s compare how some recent folks doing similar things were treated by the press and leftist ideologues (though I repeat myself).
LOL.
Comment by Simon Jester — 6/6/2011 @ 2:09 pm
It occurs to me that without a resignation, all these women who followed him are going to suffer much more scrutiny. His wife will be more in the spotlight, though that probably can’t be avoided.
I think there’s the rub. I didn’t hear many lefties demand Chris Lee resign. They demanded Mark Foley resign, but that was a different situation.
I think the real difference here is that Chris Lee actually had some shame, and wanted to end this mess for his family, even if that meant no more power. Anthony Weiner wants the mess to end, but his power is more precious to him than the hassle to the women he’s chatted up (or his wife).
The scandal itself is not interesting. It’s a nothing. I was right from the first moment that he sent that tweet and that pic and accidentally made it public. Most people were right, other than a few people trying to be contrarian experts. There’s just not a lot to this.
But it’s interesting to see the road Weiner has taken, then and now, consistently selfish. I don’t think democrat leaders like him because of his selfish spotlight grabbing in the past.
But will he be NYC’s Mayor? You never know.
Comment by Dustin — 6/6/2011 @ 2:10 pm
The age thing is still out there. He answered that poorly. Everybody is able to see he followed and DMd high school girls.
Comment by MayBee — 6/6/2011 @ 2:10 pm
People voted Democrat regardless in NYC. So long as he wins the primary which means so long as the Democratic Machine wants him in.
Creepy dude, huh?

Is Tommy Christopher going to ask Betty and Veronica’s parents for a comment?
Comment by MayBee — 6/6/2011 @ 2:11 pm
Emily Miller should raise a fuss. Weiner was guilty of sending lewd texts and comments to women, and he tried to cover it up by making lewd comments to female reporters.
Comment by MayBee — 6/6/2011 @ 2:13 pm
Timb,
He should resign or be voted out.
Clearly, this is a human with impulse control issues who is wantonly reckless.
Comment by Sponge Bob Torquemada — 6/6/2011 @ 2:13 pm
HAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAH
He lied to the American people, claiming he was hacked. He’s a congressman who lied to us about serious crimes. We can’t trust him.
But don’t blame me. Weiner was crying that he takes full responsibility. Does he? Are there any real consequences he is willingly taking? He was forced to tell some of the truth… he fought hard even against that.
I think this is a very boring story.
And I bet I’m not bringing it up months later. You, however, are bringing up Chris Lee months later. What’s that say about you? I think you’re trying to accuse me of being homosexual, so I guess you’re a bigot too.
Comment by Dustin — 6/6/2011 @ 2:13 pm
The age thing is still out there but I’m sure the intelligent member of Congress figures this apology will end everything. But he forgets this is never over until he goes on Oprah and grovels.
Except there is no Oprah show anymore so the joke is on Weiner.

Very creepy. Also, I read on another blog that Weiner won’t deny X-rated pics. I assume he means R-rated.
But while it’s such a serious thing, I do worry about the kids being exposed by name. I don’t blame them very much if they had some innocent comments about prom dates, with parents who sound like absolutely insane Weiner worshiping loyalists. I fear some people will not rest on this issue, even if that means wild, wild, wild speculation. If it caught Weiner engaged in being a sex predator, sure, it was worth it, but there’s no evidence that it will, and the price is pretty high either way.
Comment by Dustin — 6/6/2011 @ 2:21 pm
Democrats are already known to be the “scum of the Earth” so there is no reason to resign

Well, it’s been over an hour since the presser, and “Media Matters” has absolutely NOTHING on their webpage.
They are too busy writing their 1,000th story about Palin’s lack of intelligence and don’t have time for a member of Congress lying to us when an ex-governor babbles about Paul Revere. They have their priorities after all.

But while it’s such a serious thing, I do worry about the kids being exposed by name
I have mixed feelings. The girl who slept with my favorite quarterback was exposed by name. Teens who put themselves out there are harder to protect. It’s always harder to protect people more than they are willing to protect themselves.
I don’t want their names put in highlights. But I don’t think it’s worth ignoring what could be a very bad thing for an adult to do, in the name of protecting the kids
Comment by MayBee — 6/6/2011 @ 2:28 pm

Comment by happyfeet — 6/6/2011 @ 2:31 pm
Can you imagine the volumes of photos Frum has floating out there? That man has bearded up his whole life.
Comment by Sponge Bob Torquemada — 6/6/2011 @ 2:31 pm
That’s a legitimate opinion. I disagree, but not strongly. Indeed, if Weiner was sex talking high school girls, that’s totally unacceptable and justifies some collateral damage to expose.
But the problem is we don’t know for sure if Weiner did that. He could have been sloppy enough to text a girl thinking she was an adult. He could have simply had girls following him while not sex talking them.
Anyway, the best defense is raising the children right. These girls were worshiping Weiner. Their parents’ letters are worshiping Weiner. It’s a completely unhealthy way to see our congressmen. I noticed one of the moms said she monitored everything her child did online. You can’t really do that. You can try that as a shortcut because you failed to instil values in your children, but that’s all.
If your worry is right, it’s really sad they forced ‘Veronica’ to say she lied, in a hunt for great fame. I really don’t want to think about it.
It’s not like we’re running out of important things to worry about, anyway.
Comment by Dustin — 6/6/2011 @ 2:37 pm

On Twitter right now, the comely coed is claiming she and Weiner had not been exchanging inappropriate DMs. If that is true, Weiner was sending her the crotch shot completely out of the blue.

If you worship the Weiner you have to expect to get some flack. Hell they deserve it, with their phony story made up by the congressman’s law firm and passed off as their own.
I’d get em for plagiarizing, if nothing else.

Just heard Pelosi is calling for an investigation.
How about that?
You think she’ll hire Breitbart or Ace?

@112–Looking to drain the swamp, she is.
Perhaps I’m in the minority here, but I still think Weiner may eventually be forced to resign–not by his own conscience, but by his fellow Dem congresscritters who are looking to appear normal and also to get past the tawdry story that by its very nature will continue to dominate the news.

This is all the more titillating due to his family name. Just like the Lorena Bobbitt escapade was.

Pretty big if! The comely coed is a liar, who tried to protect a congressman who was lying to the American people about his account being hacked. A lot of people fell for her act, too. A lot of people praised her while she lied and lied and lied.
She’s an adult and her name is mud, unless you really want a loyal liar (and many sure do these days).
Maybee, I do think there’s a strong possibility Weiner sexted children. I do wish no one had gotten their names publicized.

This was number three. Things come in threes: Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Arnold’s love child, Weinergate. We should be safe for awhile.

Pelosi has thrown him under the bus.

I once grew gingivitis in my garden and we’d weave it into sturdy horse blankets.

So I’m still a little interested in Andrew Breitbart’s appearance at the presser. Had Weiner stood there and continued to deny his involvement was Breitbart planning to storm the podium and pass out picures of the really graphic photo of Weiner he claims to be in possession of? Had he warned Weiner what would soon happen if he did not both come clean and publicly apologize to Breitbart?
Breitbart being there was theatre for sure.
Comment by elissa — 6/6/2011 @ 3:50 pm
elissa, that’s interesting speculation. I bet something along those lines is what happened, too. Something got Weiner to fess up.
I’m glad he got his apology, because that does turn things around. It’ll be harder for the left to continue attacking Breitbart when he just says ‘what provable lie did I say?’ with no takers. He clearly laid out what exactly he wanted an apology for… those loyal democrats who concocted this story of Breitbart being a villain when he was merely the messenger of the truth. Weiner was right to grant the apology.
This reminds me of Maddow’s ridiculous ‘may I ask you if you want to answer this question’ interview. Desperately coddling a liar with power because he’s a democrat, while desperately bashing the guy who was right because he’s Breitbart.
Hopefully a few people realize this has been going on for a lot time.

Dustin: I’m glad to see you came back to the conservative view in your regards to Weiner. And I do believe there are X-rated pictures out there, not just R. If these relationships had been ongoing for 3 years, there was more to it than just underwear shots.
Breitbart accomplished what he set out to do, which was show the bias of the MSM. And he actually got an apology out of Weiner. Way to go!

Breitbart embarrassed a room full of America’s best journalists. Not a single moment of that press conference belonged to them. That should be required J-school viewing.

Hey, I never agreed with his politics.
I just completely misjudged the loser as a man with character. My wife’s been picking on me about it for a couple of days, though I don’t think she even knows Weiner fessed up (who cares?).
But yeah, it’s hard to stay on Weiner’s side in any way, shape, or form. The guy is a complete trainwreck.
