Cooley Retakes Lead in California A.G. Race

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:44 pm

Ping, pong, ping, pong:

Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley on Saturday took the lead over San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris in votes for California attorney general.

In one of the state’s closest statewide elections ever, the Secretary of State’s office announced that Cooley now has a 22,817-vote lead over Harris.

This gives Cooley 46 percent of the vote, as of Saturday morning, and Harris 45.7 percent of the vote.

There are so many votes outstanding that Cooley’s current lead doesn’t mean much. But it’s worth noting, since many had written him off in the last couple of days due to Harris’s previous lead.

Looks like we’re in for a long slog.

  1. It will be nice if at least one frickin’ major office in the state government of Greece/Mexico/France/Spain/Venezuela (aka California) goes to a non-liberal. A token gesture, to be sure, but better than nothing.

Thanks, all you brilliant Californians (aka, clones of Greeks/Mexicans/French/Spaniards/Venezuelans)!

  2. Are other CA contests getting their tallies updated, or just the AG’s?

  3. This is a big deal. Just one Republican in a place like this can keep a lot of people in check. Everyone wins. The last thing California needs is a one party government right now, though they practically already have that.

  4. That’s good news, it also proves the rule that the unlikeliest candidate, arise in the course of an
    election cycle

  5. Not only liberal, but bay area liberal, and that’s expontentially worse.

  6. The good news appears to be that Cooley’s origins in Southern California — specifically Los Angeles County — is helping overcome the Democrat wave. I haven’t checked the numbers myself, but I hear that he is holding his own with LA County voters which is helping him keep pace.

Do you realize that if Harris ends up winning (shudder), virtually all of the important state-wide offices in this state will be held by Bay Area residents:
    Governor — Jerry Brown (Oakland)
Lt. Governor — Gavin Newsome (San Francisco)
Atty. General — Kamala Harris (San Francisco)
U.S. Senator — Barbara Boxer (Marin County)
U.S. Senator — Diane Feinstein (San Francisco)

My God, no wonder we are such a flippin’ dysfunctional state! Secession for Southern California now!

  7. Cooley leads….
It will be nice to have one reasonably adult person at the levers of power in Sac-town.

A State of Southern California would be dominated by the …holes in Los Angeles –
we would be trading one dysfunctional government for another.

The reasonable split would be along a north-south axis, cutting the coast off from the central-valley/mountains/deserts – perhaps the Santa Ana River could be the boundary in the LA/OC area?

To paraphrase the late William F. Buckley, I would rather be ruled by the first 200 names in the Southern California SEIU/ACORN directory than by the entire Bay Area Democrat establishment.

Besides, if we would get Bakersfield and San Luis Obispo thrown into Southern California then combined with the Inland Empire and San Diego we might be able to mitigate the horror of Los Angeles liberals.

  9. ‘According to the San Francisco Chronicle, “roughly 4 of every 100 arrests result in prison terms in San Francisco, compared with 12.8 out of 100 in Alameda County, 14.4 of 100 in Sacramento County, 21 of 100 in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, 26.6 of 100 in Fresno County, 38.7 of 100 in Los Angeles County and 41 of 100 in San Diego County.” [26] Police also note that lenient sentencing from San Francisco judges also plays a role in this.’–wiki.

Harris is one of the most incompetent D.A.s in the history of the United States.

    Naturally, the lefties love her.

We live in a state comprised of 50% morons.

    Dave Surls (071f8e)

  10. Aw Dave, you don’t agree with D.A. Harris that “diversionary” programs are much more effective than incarceration? Don’t you believe that fighting social ills can be accomplished when we can all join hands, think positive thoughts, and heal the world together?

    JVW (eccfd6)

  11. “Aw Dave, you don’t agree with D.A. Harris that “diversionary” programs are much more effective than incarceration?”

    No, I don’t.

What I do agree with is that San Francisco county has the highest homicide rate in the state thanks to people like Kamala Harris.

She’s the best friend a criminal ever had.

  12. I think even the atheists on the board oughtta shout out a prayer… Harris?
    Please.
She’ll spend her time suing the police.
Then she’ll go after Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Starbucks and McDonalds.
She will protect the unions with every neuron her brain is capable of firing.
Then she’ll sue me for having the temerity to employ people at a rate less than what I pay myself.

*bleep* her and it is a disgrace she was even nominated

  13. I was just mulling this over yesterday, noting there were 1.73 million uncounted mail-in ballots. What a pleasant surprise (for a change) in the dreary news from the rest of the state elections.

  14. Greetings:

Kamelhead Harris, Mr. Cooley’s opponent is against the death penalty, has gratuitously dismissed charges against political demonstrators, and was responsible for law enforcement in San Francisco, the home of the “Up Your Alley Fair”.

  15. I think even the atheists on the board oughtta shout out a prayer… Harris?
    Please.

O Heavenly Father, please grant this atheist’s prayer that a rational person who will actually combat serious crime has won the recent California AG election, not some far-left Bay Area nutbag. And if that isn’t entirely clear, I mean let please Steve Cooley win, not Kooky Kamala Harris.

    Amen.

  16. Where are the bags of ballots in the trunks of cars when you really need them?

    malclave (73ef31)

  17. malclave – The are in Bridgeport, CT, a couple of Congressional districts in NY, Bob the Strangler’s district in North Carolina, outside St. Louis, and several other places I forget off the top of my head.

  18. There are reasons Cooley was one of the two Republicans I voted for this year.

There are some things I don’t like about him – his position on medical marijuana dispensaries is probably the biggest one – but the perfect can’t be allowed to be the enemy of the good.

    aphrael (fe2ce4)

  19. Wasn’t your vote more anti-Kamala?

    JD (c8c1d2)

  20. “There are some things I don’t like about him – his position on medical marijuana dispensaries …..”

    That phrase sounds so benign.

Think of the boundary running roughly down the crest of the Coastal Range from the OR border,
across the San Gabriels to the San Berdoo County line, and south along the Santa Ana River to the Coast.
Let The City, and L.A. fight for where the Capitol will be – perhaps they could compromise on Monterey, or Santa Barbara.

  22. This Cooley voter is less than impressed with his position on 3-Strikes, and on the on-going saga of The Cardinal Obstructing Justice, but voted for him nonetheless.

    AD-RtR/OS! (0f5c41)

  23. Steve Cooley’s subversion of 3 strikes means he has blood on his hands. He is not the lesser of 2 evils. He is evil.

  24. C’mon, how much worse can it be for the one-party Bolivarian Republic of California, to have one token non-Party member in a second-echelon constitutional office?

Those of you who own or manage businesses may want to keep this guy’s URL handy. (I think I picked it up from this site, actually).

    http://thebusinessrelocationcoach.blogspot.com/

I’m sure he’d do business relocations in general, but it’s pretty clear that the trend is, FROM: CA TO: Anywhere else. Sad, really.

When I was a kid, I liked Hot Wheels cars that came from Mattel in California, because California was cool. (The toys were only made in high-cost CA for a couple of years though, then the dies went to Hong Kong).

This year, I paid a little extra to get a 2011 versus 2010 new Toyota truck, because the ’10s were made in the now-shuttered NUMMI plant in CA by UAW workers, and the ’11s were hecho en Mexico. I figure I’ll be paying enough idle CA union workers every April 15 for the foreseeable future, and the non-UAW truck has to be better built.

  25. I guess we need to refer to the state government now as “the San Francisco Clique”, or maybe just “the Frisco Gang” to be rude.

I imply, I know it was my option to read, however I truly thought youd have one thing attention-grabbing to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about one thing that you can fix if you werent too busy searching for attention.
