‘Welcome To The Bubble For Like-Minded Free Thinkers, And No One Else’

Filed under: General — Dana @ 10:45 am

This is pretty good from SNL:

I read a telling comment about the skit which shows why there can never be any honest examination by bubble-dwellers about their perceptions of reality. After all, in their smug and blinkered bubble, they always get their way, they are always right about issues, they are always righteous in their causes, and most importantly, they are always better than everyone else:

Idiot politicians make for the best comedy . . .
Obama was far too intelligent , measured and composed .

Keep it up, silly people, this willful ignorance and denial is precisely why Trump is now the President-elect.

  1. There’s no fool like the bubble fool.

    Dana (d17a61)

  2. And outside the bubble you find the “fake news” that leads to people voting for Trump.

  3. how’s “the bubble” any different than “vote your conscience”

it’s always feewings first with butthurt sore loser snowflakes

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  4. Yeah, and voting instead of just running your mouth without skin in the game.

    Right?

If you get to be all judgey, so do folks who, you know, bothered to vote.

  5. DO YOU WANNA SEE ME CRAWL ACROSS THE FLOOR TO YOU

  6. Dana, what I like about this video is that, just maybe, the so-cool set are trying to be a little more fair and becoming willing to make fun of themselves.

After all, there will be money involved. Perhaps the Big Boys and Big Girls are starting to see that with advertising revenues.

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  7. Oh, no, Mr. Feet. I want you to quit being a jackhole.

And that ain’t ever gonna happen.

But I am going to call you on your BS every single time. And I hope others do, too.

You are just a big fake.

Of course, you could try to participate instead of troll. After all, you don’t seem like people trolling you!

    But you are just lazy.

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  8. I must confess that, on balance, I have never considered Saturday Night Live very funny. Oh, there have been some classic observations, and some of the alumni have gone on to do great work, but much of SNL’s work has struck me as simultaneously trendy and tiresome.

But then I consider Charlie Chaplain to be one mean sonofabitch, Lucille Ball to be an annoying waste of bandwidth, and Robin Williams as amusing as a rubber crutch.

  9. Lucille Ball to be an annoying waste of bandwidth

Not to mention being a demeaning stereotype for women.

  10. Kinda like a female Stepin Fetchit

    Kevin M (25bbee)

  11. it’s still a good question what’s the difference

this completely serious and unironic harvardtrash conviction about how the whirl is shaped by how we apply our feewings to it

    THERE’S A PLACE FOR US

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  12. CSPS: I agree. SNL has always made me feel icky, because I found MOST of its humor to be one sided, and often mean spirited.

Some of their routines, though, gave me hope.

    Remember this one?

Anyway, you have to admit that “The Bubble” skit was funny. Sort of like the opener for Portlandia.

But honestly, television is about money. And insulting half the country won’t bring in a lot of cash. Maybe folks on Mahogany Row are getting it.

    Or so I hope.

I like it when humor is even handed.

  14. And seriously, Mr. Feet: you don’t see the hypocritical irony to your statement?

“…this completely serious and unironic harvardtrash conviction about how the whirl is shaped by how we apply our feewings to it….”

Once again, just a lazy troll.

Why not contribute? Oh yeah. Just lazy.

  15. death’s door gin plus a splash of maraschino and a few dashes of celery bitters is the martini for later today

it tastes as fancy as it sounds!

i suppose when Mr. Trump takes office we should dial back on the imported spirits

    but tomorrow is another day

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  16. no do not see the hypocritical irony to my statement

    pls to explain

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  17. That was one of the better SNL commercials I’ve seen in a while. And its funny that it came along with the Target commercial which was one of the lamest I can ever remember. Not sure if Target was this week or last week, but it wasn’t funny in any respect.

    shipwreckedcrew (56b591)

  18. Simon, I gotta say, you’re private little war with happyfeet is almost as annoying as happyfeet. All you do is draw more attention to him. With bold caps.

Besides, hall monitors are dorks. Don’t be a dork…

    LBascom (1cae03)

  19. thank you Lee that was sweet of you and also perspicacous

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  20. *perspicacious* i mean

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  21. Now, that’s interesting. Free speech for some and not for others!

I will match up the folks whom I annoy or insult to those Mr. Feet does any freaking day.

If you are ignoring Mr. Feet, please feel free to ignore me as well.

But do keep in mind: Mr. Feet used to write things that gave value to Patterico’s website. Explored ideas in a fair minded and intelligent fashion.

    Not so much anymore.

I just don’t care for graffiti, especially when it insults kind people who post here too infrequently.

    YMMV.

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  22. SWC: I surely don’t expect SNL to start being fair. I was surprised, right after the election, to see that “bubble” skit. It *might* be that the Powers That Be thought the silly opening with Kate McKinnon was too much, you know?

    Advertising revenue is advertising revenue.

  28. Laugh now, their full court press on what THEY decide is “fake news” will happen via social media.

One of the highlights of 2016 was watching Obama Teh Liar lecturing Americans about what they are calling fake news and blaming those who rejected 4 more years of his nonsense for their gullibility.

  29. Two questions for the esteemed crowd
If anyone can give a link to an African American explaining why people don’t have to run and hide, please pass it along.
Second, it seems that too often when I am visiting web sites like PowerLine and Jewish World Review, there are provocative ads about beautiful athletes and “the camera man didn’t expect to see this”, which at times I find so distasteful that I will not link a good article.
Do other people get those things too?
I don’t think I have ever clicked on one of them.

  34. MD..I think that is part of the 21 century Web. But I don’t remember seeing those sort of things on Powerline.

I did find that changing my marital status on Facebook to a version of “too complicated to explain” from single cut down the rate of escort service ads. Now I get other click bait, of course.

Just remember that many people on the Right live in their own bubble…

I realize that what I consider modest attire is so 1900’s (early 1900’s),
but there are others like me who I know would be offended.

Thank you, dear patterico, for not giving free reign to some third party to post ads on your site.

  37. Comparing Lucille Ball to Stepin Fetchit is an insult to the Black actor, and by extension to all minority actors laboring under stereotypes. Lucy didn’t HAVE to play an annoying twunt, she simply WAS ONE. One thing that has, for me anyway, been settled by the home video revolution is that whatever Desi was being paid to put up with that sniveling redhead, it wasn’t enough.

The fact taht she played one doesn’t mean taht’s what she was. It was at least an exaggeration.

She may have had a choice of characters – or maybe not. She wanted to be ina vehicle with eher husband, Desi Arnaz. She married him in 1940. The bigger problem was finding something for Desi. Being something off an person who always tried something and failed, was the theme she hit on.

  40. Sadly, the old greasemonkey script doesn’t work any more.

It stopped working when this site was redesigned a few years ago, and my minimal JavaScript-fu wasn’t up to making the changes necessary. I’ve learned more since then, and will soon have another go at it.

    Milhouse (40ca7b)

  41. Well, they’re completely correct about fake news. There’s a lot of it out there. For instance, the whole BLM movement was created by the fake news that the Gentle Giant was gunned down in cold blood by an evil racist cop, while he was running away with his hands up and shouting “don’t shoot”. Millions of people to this day believe that this happened.

And of course there’s the fake news of the martyrdom of Little Saint Mohammed al-Dura, which hundreds of millions still believe to have happened.
