Why Sean Hannity Pushed a Fake News Story on the Radio Today
I have your answer in two words: “Gateway Pundit.”
Radio host Sean Hannity on Tuesday embraced a piece of fake news about President Obama deleting endorsements of Hillary Clinton from his Twitter account.
Hannity used the made-up news to claim that President Obama’s legacy might be “jail.”
The deleted-tweets claim could have been disproven by a quick Twitter search.
Later in the day, Hannity tweeted a correction and apologized.
Hannity later explained where the fake news came from. Here is Hannity’s tweeted correction:
Correction. Live on radio I read a gateway pundit report that @MichelleObama had deleted mentions of HRC. And a listener said BHO and…
— Sean Hannity (@seanhannity) November 1, 2016
Elizabeth Warren did same. Fact is they didn't. I humbly apologize. Live radio
— Sean Hannity (@seanhannity) November 1, 2016
The key there is the phrase: “Live on radio I read a gateway pundit report” . . .
He went full Gateway Pundit.
Never go full Gateway Pundit.

If he credited Gateway with the information when he shared it with his audience, it’s no biggie, in my opinion.
What is big is that he has become the #1 Fox News anchor in ratings. What a farce. Then again, I have to admit I am loving that dear Megyn is paying a significant price for her corrupt and self-serving performance since that ignominious first GOP debate.

happyfeet (28a91b) — 11/2/2016 @ 3:20 amIt’s also been pushed on a bunch of FB comments and other places that all these Wiener emails were found in a big folder entitled “Life Insurance”. I have no idea how anyone would actually get that info from an ongoing investigation, so it has to be just another rumor-meme.
But that definitely falls in the “too funny to check” category in my mind, at least.
I feel distinct trepidation about the future path of our government regardless of the outcome of the election…but beginning to be hopeful that the oaths I made to protect certain things just might actually be enforceable after all.

People looking for a principled conservative-ish alternative to Donald Trump are not finding it in the Libertarian candidates.
I don’t hold the Aleppo thing against them, but I do hold against them their support for carbon taxes, abortion, gun rights restrictions, and now defense of Hillary Clinton’s illegal server.

Colonel Haiku (ce04df) — 11/2/2016 @ 5:01 amHannity isn’t such a bum on radio. He actually would be more in the vein of Regis Philbin or a generic morning host if not for his FOX show trajectory.
urbanleftbehind (693a78) — 11/2/2016 @ 5:10 amNo, Hannity is a pr**k on radio, too. I can’t stand to listen to the guy. Especially understanding he supposedly represents “my side.” He gets so much wrong. This is just the latest example.
But I hear he’s a brown belt.
Steve57 (0b1dac) — 11/2/2016 @ 5:25 amIt will be a shorter list if I say who I do like.
I like Larry Elder, the Sage of South Central. He has his doo-doo formed up in one nice neat pile.
Hannity’s doo-doo is all over the place.
Steve57 (0b1dac) — 11/2/2016 @ 5:31 amThe one thing about a story like this – which reports something that, if true, is impossible to hide, and if false, would become known right away, is that it is possible to check it yourself.
Or you can wait a few hours and see if it holds.
Sean Hanity gambled that since this story, if false, would be very obviously false, it must be true. But the story itself would be astonishing, and his problem was that he was too ready to believe that.
Now something did happen. Barack Obama did not join in in the condemnation of FBI Director James Comey, and in fact said he did the right thing. That did not mean, however, he was disassociating himself from Hillary Clinton.
In the New York City newspapers, on Monday, the Daily News was even more anti-Comey than tghe day before, and the New York Times ran 3 Op-eds pieces against what he did (includin Paul Krugman’s regular column)
But on Tuesday that was not any headline at all about thiss except for one line right below the masthead that said:
PREZ BACKS COMEY “MAN OF INTEGRITY”
Today they’ve got:
The two lines starting with “News doubles down” are nderlined, but there is no red dot in front of them,
There is a big picture of Hillary Clinton on the right side of the front page.

I think he’s getting details wrong right now, or a few minutes ago. Like the server being in the bathroom in Colorado. That wasn’t the server. It wasn’t a bathroom any longer either, and I think Platte River Network also moved soon. Or that Hillary, if things were different, might be in jail. That only happens a year or two down the road, after all legal proceedings are over.
He may have other interesting facts that are right. Like Hillary ordering files to be deleted two days before receiving a subpoena, and after being warned. It just needs to be checked out and confirmed.
I think actually they put on the 60-day delete in late 2014 or maybe it was 90 at first. The earlier subpeona had been of the State Department, and, of course, her emails weren’t there. The State Department got emails from her and hid the whole problem from the Trey Gowdy Committee till after their dealings with her were over.
When he has more specific details, and he’s not going over previous information, he’s more likely to be correct.
