  17. We agree. The media should not be trusted. They are not on our side, no matter their network initials. Gell-Mann? I do believe that Tapper tries more to be professional than most of the others, though.

  22. Obama is no longer running for anything so the media lickspittles are now free to criticize him in order that they can later claim they were as tough on him as they were on any other President.

  32. It’s amazing how much Trump is like Obama. Trump is criticizing NATO the same way Obama criticizes our closest allies, like Great Britain. Maybe they believe it’s safer to bully people who won’t fight back.

NEXT month, the Temple of Baal will come to Times Square. Reproductions of the 50-foot arch that formed the temple’s entrance are to be installed in New York and in London, a tribute to the 2,000-year-old structure that the Islamic State destroyed last year in the Syrian town of Palmyra.

They go ape over a cross, but Baal, let’s celebrate!!!
Milhouse, Sammy, you heard of this?

Yeah, Tapper made me mad about something not too long ago, but he has been an exception to the rule and challenged the admin as much as anyone has.

  36. There’s a photo of Paul Ryan posted on the drudgereport right now. The guy is the epitome of squishy or RINO (feh), but with so many Americans leaning left, and with any conservative needing to be perfect in just about every way possible in order to be competitive in November (eg, if Cruz’s brain could be transplanted into Ryan’s head, Cruz probably would be far more popular right now), and with too many Republicans (and others) either turned off by or indifferent towards the 2 current leading candidates of their party, alternatives to them are becoming increasingly important.

Pathetic that this is all set against the backdrop of continuing doubt whether someone other than horrible Hillary will succeed the communist-loving, US-hating person now in the White House.

C’mon Happyfeet, don’t be disingenuous. The only reason why you don’t like Megyn Kelly is because Trump is absolutely frightened of her.

Ok, I can work with that opinion. It was just that Kelly got put on a plinth all her own by you. Seeing as 1) Trump has a habit of shrieking like a 5 year old when confronted with the possibility of being questioned by her and 2) you openly, unwaveringly support Trump, you can see why I was questioning your motive.

  44. @narciso

The “Tom” who was the son of Hemings died shortly after they returned to Virginia. There was no 12-year old named “Tom” in Monticello in 1802. There was another Tom who was later pointed out or said to be that son of Thomas Jefferson, but he was not the same person, and the Hemings mother and
family didn’t know him. Sally and her two youngest sons were free in 1830 and living in Virginia and counted as white in the Census. Or she was. They would not have lost touch with a brother in Virginia.

While the DNA evidence would also support Thomas Jefferson’s brother Randolph, this was not what they said at the time, but instead a different relative (Peter Carr, Jefferson’s nephew by his sister) was proposed as the father. There is reason to believe that Thomas Jefferson
Randolph, who told Jefferson biographer Henry Randall that Peter Carr was the father but asked him not to wroite anything at all about Sally Hemings and her children in his book, and mention of tejm was omitted in the 3-volume 1858 biography – there is reaosn to believe he knew the claim it was Peter Carr was a lie. Later on Randall wrote all this in an 1868 letter to another Jefferson biographer, James Parton. Randall also claimed to have seen records supporting it – but no such records have survived, so they were probably forgeries, designed to get Henry Randall off the track.

Both Madison and Eston Hemings said or indicated after the Civil War that Thomas Jefferson was their father, and all the surviving children of Sally Hemings were either freed, or allowed to escape.

It isn’t nailed down 100% but the probability is that this was a successful cover-up by Thomas Jefferson, and, what’s more, Bill Clinton modeled his coverups on some aspects of Jefferson’s coverup, particularly the supplying of false negative information (which could later be debunked) to the skeptics. Clinton had figured this out, or been informed, long before the Annette Gordon-Reed book. Theer was already a Fawn Brodie book in 1974.

Callender was told she was called, or he called her, “Dusky Sally” but Sally Hemings was actually 3/4 white and the half sister of his late wife. This was an important piece of disinformation, because Thomas Jefferson had written in his 1784 book “Notes on Virginia” written before any of this allegedly happened, that he could not account for sexual attraction – and he was not attracted to people with dark skin (not in words exactly like that but that’s the substance)

Anyone who had read “Notes on Virginia” would immediately discount any sexual liason between Thomas Jefferson and a “dusky” Sally. But Sally wasn’t “dusky!”

The idea that Jefferson was a deist is only a conclusion some people might draw from his writings but other ideas are possible.

Of course, we don’t see organized historians suppressing “error” on other things the way they are doing on this 2012 book “The Jefferson Lies”
