Don Lemon With Suggestions for the Black Community

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:42 pm

Nice video from Don Lemon. (No embed code, unfortunately.) He’s being attacked for it by the professional race hustlers, of course:

By the way, Don, I have talked about black on black crime plenty here, and not in the context of sticking it to black people. In fact, much of the time I have been sticking it to white journalists at the L.A. Times for ignoring crime against black victims, in favor of eyeball-grabbing stories like Paris Hilton’s court troubles.

P.S. Professional race writer Jenée ‏Desmond-Harris is busy wringing her hands over Lemon’s supposed ignorance, while not taking on a single specific point he made. I’d ask her myself, but she has me blocked on Twitter as part of her quest for a national conversation on race.

  7. I’m not ordinarily a fan of Don Lemon, but he’s right here for anyone of any race who wishes to minimize being negatively stereotyped.

That said, anyone should have the right to dress as they wish, speak as they wish, etc. You just can’t choose how people see you when you do this.

Former Conservative – You can’t control how other people view you, but there are some pretty strong indicators of how you can change your odds from being viewed potentially more positively from more negatively or vice versa. I think that was the point Lemon was trying to make.

  40. Lemon’s piece was actually courageous. Murder. Parenting. Littering? Go, Don.

O’Reilly has been en fuego too. And totally correct. So has Ray Kelly in the WSJ.

I suspect this is why O has stopped talking about Trayvon. The real cause of death is becoming obvious.

My liberal relatives tho will not even listen. They insist blacks do not commit crimes in greater number than any other race. *sigh*

    Patricia (be0117)

  41. Patricia, your relatives don’t hang out in high crime areas. Or they will insist the problem is economic (which in fact is part of the problem).

It kind of reminds me of the “Take Back the Night” marches on campus. The people marching and chanting only seem interested in taking back the comparatively safe part of the night on campus; they don’t often march to the “bad” part of town to chant and march.

Which is why the civil rights marchers of the 50s and 60s impressed me: they knowingly walked into danger. It wasn’t a hip pose to them.

    Simon Jester (4df38d)

  42. I think Obama stopped talking about Trayvon because somebody told him it’s not smart to scare white people. It makes them pass concealed carry, expand stand your ground laws, and build more prisons.

    nk (875f57)

  43. My liberal relatives tho will not even listen. They insist blacks do not commit crimes in greater number than any other race.

Perhaps they don’t. Maybe they’re just really bad at not getting caught.

I think Obama stopped talking about Trayvon because somebody told him it’s not smart to scare white people.

Well, he already has the black vote mostly locked up. If he manages to pull an extra percent of the black vote with this racial politics, but lose even half a percent of the white and Hispanic votes respectively during the midterms, then it’s hard to see how he wins. And maybe he’s just figured this out.

    Former Conservative (6e026c)

  48. Another update! Inspector Roland Martin is on the case and he blames Fox News for Lemon’s moment of clarity.

Are we really expected to have a national conversation on race when every common sense solution is treated as racism and anyone offering it, even black liberals are referred to as mother****ers and “turn coats”?

  50. 44. We’ve basically got another 18 months of Treasury rollovers, over and above Fed purchases, which means upward pressure on interest rates.

About at the end, perhaps before, the Fed will have over $4 Trillion in loss producing assets. IOW they will be printing money inorder to print money.

A couple of EU sovereigns and Argentina will have defaulted and municipal bonds gotten much pricier. No one will be sending EBT-purchased groceries to Haiti.

    Blackhawks over Chi-town again yesterday.

    gary gulrud (dd7d4e)

  51. What we need is to study history.

The pathologies prevalent in many black communities in America are eerily identical to pathologies prevalent in Irish communities in America in the 19th century.

    Michael Ejercito (2e0217)

  52. The cultural and economic problems that have been roiling too many people within black America — for too many decades — has gotten so excessive and become so entrenched that even a staunch liberal like Don Lemon, working for a staunchly liberal outfit like CNN, can no longer pretend that harsh reality is actually rainbows and unicorns.

The first step in a 12-step recovery program is for a person to at least admit he has a problem and to be completely honest about the source of that problem. The rampant liberalism that has plagued black America for decades (and the “limousine liberalism” of the US in general) has made that first step all but impossible to take, much less to move far beyond.

  55. Yes, Simon, today’s “civil rights” is a toothless pantomime of the real deal. The song “Officer Krupke” in West Side Story, which mocks the whole idea of crime being caused by sociology, is now over 50 years old. Half a century of this blather!

Finally, people are seeing the truth.

But I think we are really in a second Reconstruction, and this time the Dems have pandered to and bought off the votes of black people.

  58. Advice for teenaged boys;

    • Don’t listen to rich pop-stars about the glamor of the outlaw life.

    • Don’t dress like a criminal class unless you want to be mistaken for a criminal.

    • Don’t wander around on other peoples’ property.

    • Don’t get surly if you get called on wandering around on other peoples’ property.

    • Don’t try to punch out adults, no matter how badass you think you are.

    • If, in spite of all common sense, you do all of the above, don’t be surprised if you get shot.
