“That What You Fear the Most Can Meet You Halfway”—A Sunday Night Musical Interlude

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here.]

That is a startling line from a less famous classic from Pearl Jam: Crazy Mary.

This was from the album “Sweet Relief: A Tribute to Victoria Williams.”  Yes, a tribute album to an artist that most of you probably never heard of, but despite the many very different styles on the album, it was still pretty good.  Of course, that also means that the song wasn’t written by Pearl Jam, but by Ms. Williams, who also sings backup on this version.

Anyway, I just remembered the song and felt like sharing. Treat this as an open thread, to discuss whatever.  You know, because we are so disciplined in our regular threads.  /sarc

  4. Yeah, but if I do like 10 Megyn Kelly posts in a row on my own blog, people would think I’m weird or something. Whereas if I just beg for that here, um, …. I mean, if they’re posted here, as a loyal Patterico reader I cannot but pay them due heed. Yes, that’s the ticket. Due heed.

  5. I can’t find anything newer than this, and it’s a fairly sedate pic, with the Post doing doublethink
    magnificently:

  9. Narciso, thank you for that link. Y’know, by coincidence, the originator of Godwin’s Law was an undergraduate classmate of mine at Texas in 1975 — we were in the same (very capable) study group in a very intense biology course. And he was (and I’m sure, still is) a very bright and perceptive fellow, but I don’t recall that we spoke of Nazis in our study group. But then it wasn’t on the internet, of course.

  10. (See, I paid that article due heed, even though it only had one picture.)

    (Due heed only, though.)

  11. Thanks for the post. We are recording the third Sweet Relief compilation as I write this – should be in the can by end of March. We are planning some live shows featuring the artists on this and the two previous issues.

Sweet Relief III so far has, Jackson Browne, Rickie lee Jones, Lucinda Williams, She & Him, Joseph Arthur, kd Lang, Micheal Penn & Aimee Mann, Ryan Adams & Mandy Moore and some cool surprises. All proceeds will go to help artists facing illness, disability or age related problems

    Best,

  12. Rob,

Ah, well good for you guys. i loved the original. and honestly didn’t know they made a second. did i ever mention that D.C. radio stations completely suck a–? they do. so i have become very, very cut off from good music.
