Cheney to Attend Inauguration in Wheelchair
Dick Cheney pulled a muscle in his back and will attend today’s inauguration in a wheelchair. Look for plenty of shots of Grandpa Cheney on teevee.
P.S. I sympathize. I did something to my back last weekend. It seems to have started with a bike ride, but whatever it is, it’s still hurting.
Good luck to all readers with any pains you might be experiencing today.
At 50, with my own back twinges, I feel Cheney’s pain.
Bradley J. Fikes (0ea407) — 1/20/2009 @ 7:14 amUsually sitting in a chair does not help a sore back, but having suffered moving injuries I can sympathize.
Of course, many would prefer of his detractors would prefer to see Cheney sitting in this.
Joe (17aeff) — 1/20/2009 @ 7:24 amGet well soon, Patterico. I hurt my lower back with a trial starting, about eight years ago, and I was a pitiful sight taking three steps and then freezing like a statue. Lie down as much as you can and don’t be frugal with the Advil.
nk (9097f8) — 1/20/2009 @ 7:43 amOn the floor, with your legs up on a chair/stool, so that your back is flat and the pressure is off of it…helps to sleep that way if you can….
Of course, serious drugs help too, but, that’s another story….
reff (b996d9) — 1/20/2009 @ 7:46 amHow about the pain in my ass coming from DC. I expect it to last 4 years.
dfbaskwill (cd5aa9) — 1/20/2009 @ 7:52 amThis will cheer you up. Warning: laughter might further injure a strained back.

Thanks Pat. Hopefully, it will only last four, eight years.

Suggestions:
1. Hot tub, preferably with somesort of Jacuzzi thing.
2. pain relievers.
3. Mrs. Patterico sitting on your lap in the hot tub.
4. If all else fails, massive amounts of alcohol and a bed.
PCD (7fe637) — 1/20/2009 @ 8:40 amHeating pad. Sleep on it.
Cheney is giving out that story about his back but he knows he is less of a target in a wheelchair. The nut quotient is higher in DC today than it has ever been or will ever be again.
MIke K (2cf494) — 1/20/2009 @ 8:44 amWOW! Amazing how many Libertards have no problem with religion in the Public Space when they win.

JD (8ed545) — 1/20/2009 @ 9:59 amFor pain and muscle strain. The drugstore sells oversize menthol pads that adhere pretty well. A couple of those might ease the pain… although it’s not as good as hot water.
Vermont Neighbor (ab0837) — 1/20/2009 @ 10:05 amEnergy tapping helped with my knee and I’m told taping the north pole of a magnet to the spine ameliorates back pain.
Managed to pull a back muscle in gym yesterday. Old age surely does rot.
I’d avoid back surgery at all costs. My cousin had those pins put in her spine and the resultant has been excruciating. Now the addiction to pain killers can take over.
aoibhneas (0c6cfc) — 1/20/2009 @ 10:27 amAs someone who has had 3 back surgeries, I can sympathize, empathize even. 2 discectomies and a fusion and all is well.

Official Internet Data Office (c048e2) — 1/20/2009 @ 3:38 pmI’m sorry, but somehow I don’t think that Tom Brokaw’s comment,

The realistic Dana (556f76) — 1/20/2009 @ 3:44 pmSomeone is feeling pretty generous towards the media today 😉

JD (c5f3ab) — 1/20/2009 @ 3:51 pmNot buyin’ it, Dana. Brokaw could just as easily said there would be those who will be writing that Cheney had a FDR appearance (that might have been a bigger insult).
But to claim that “other people” will say Cheney kinda looked like Dr. Strangelove is a comparison (albeit, only on appearances).
Steverino (69d941) — 1/20/2009 @ 4:01 pmI was just watching Bush speaking in Midland, TX after flying in from DC. I felt very happy that Mr. and Mrs. Bush were once again amongst friends. Mrs. Bush was a quietly classy and gracious presence in the WH. And as a colleague snapped upon seeng Mr. Bush at the inauguration “If I see that man one more time, I’m going to become violently ill” , I took the opportunity to sweetly remind her that because of that man’s presence in the Oval Office, she still has the freedom to denigrate him, not yet having been blown to smithereens by terrorist attack. I remember in August of 2000 when George W. Bush announced before the convention that Cheney would be the vice president nominee. I recall the sense of satisfaction that that announcement brought to me, and the sense that – in contrast to the Clinton administration – that the nomination was a signal that a Bush administration would be a more adult, more rational, administration than we’d seen with the Clinton administration.
And that signal proved to be true, the Bush administration was more adult, was also more honest, than the Clinton administration.

I did repudiate them, as DRJ or any number of rational conservative regulars (“rational” being the keyword) could attest – I got into a running argument with Levi about giving liberalism a bad name by being so deliberately abrasive as he made a point to be, and I laughed at jharp as hard as most people here. As far as the “veritable cast of hateful crazies” that you’ve “endured” for the past few months goes, I would know nothing about them – in case you hadn’t noticed, I haven’t exactly frequented the site in the past few months, not since I went to DC and had one of your oh-so-level-headed ilk fax a quasi-articulate note to the Republican congressional office where I was working in a attempt to expose me as the closet Communist I obviously was.
So who’s being the hypocrite? Techie accuses “lefties” of lacking class, and then a decided “righty” has a giggle over Ted Kennedy’s debilitated state… and for some reason I’m the one that’s a hypocrite for pointing out the dissonance of the situation?
Leviticus (bc0cf4) — 1/20/2009 @ 6:56 pmLeviticus, it is not the abrasive in Liberal that bothers most but the suspension of reason and accountability which is required to believe most of these Libtard policies will actually work.

It would have been nice if Brokaw, as a symbolic counterpoint (and, after all, since much of Obama’s momentum has been triggered by current economic travails) mentioned that Bernard Madoff — the Wall Street tycoon and big-time rip-off artist — was a major supporter of liberals/Democrats.

Abigal Adams wrote in 1800, while the White House still was under construction, “May none but honest and wise men ever rule under this roof!”
That quote was later inscribed into the marble of one of the mantel pieces at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
The appropriateness or correctness of that saying (or wish) has been put to a severe test on a few occasions through the past several decades, and it may soon not only reach a breaking point, it may finally keel over under its own idealism and innocence.
Mark (411533) — 1/20/2009 @ 7:36 pmDick Cheney liived everyday with the knowledge that the stress of the job could kill him – after 8 years he goes and by himself moves boxes around at his age and with his heart condition for his wife.

John Hitchcock (fb941d) — 1/20/2009 @ 7:43 pmAnd that signal proved to be true, the Bush administration was more adult, was also more honest, than the Clinton administration.
That reminds me of comments in a book by former FBI agent Gary Aldrich regarding some members of the White House housekeeping staff who, after the Clintons moved in, told him that the newly arrived bunch of Democrats were far more inconsiderate of others. That the Clintonites apparently were far less concerned about not making extra chores and messes for the lower-level employees of the mansion.
I wonder if the Obamaites will be much better, although the judgment and sensibilties of their boss — and in turn the type of people he’s most likely to attract and excite (eg, flaky showbiz airheads) — strikes me as about as reassuring as what’s found in a frat house or Hollywood party.

I hope President Obama does not go there, it would be a terrible mistake. I did not support the adhanced interrogation techniques of the Bush Administration and was absolutely against Rummy’s “taking off the gloves” policy at the DoD, but war crime prosecutions would be a disaster for this country.
