Tough to Listen To

Another harrowing call from the World Trade Center.

  1. I heard this entirely by accident when I turned on ‘all things considered’ this afternoon: NPR was playing it.

I assume they warned people before hand and I just came in at the wrong time.

  2. I heard it on Fox News (on their website).

    Horrible.

I guess this is the meaning to the term “enemy”. People that would do this.

My friend lost a close friend that day, and of course some of you may have known people personally.

    I don’t.

But she could have been my friend or anything and she did absolutely nothing to deserve this. Death comes to us all, but as a result of evil is unfortunate and terrible.

A Canadian Liberal Party supporter who seems to have his head screwed on straight half the time wrote about the world awakening to the fact that, “We are all Israel now.”

It’s short and worthwhile reading. In it, Warren Kinsella also talks about who he believes won the recent Israeli-Hezbollah conflict and he has an intelligent point to make about it that I haven’t heard made much elsewhere. While he also writes for one of our national newspapers, you can read his blog entry here if you like. Unfortunately, he doesn’t do permalinks. Just scroll down to the August 16, 2006 entry.

  3. I am shamed to admit that I awoke early that day and I actually saw the second plane hit the tower on TV.

Then I went to work and rather blithely went about the rest of my day. We were sent home from work.

I had 3 dates with various women that day and actually was annoyed that one stood me up. On that day.

Later that night, when I saw the images from the World Trade Center and saw what they meant when they said the buildings “collapsed” I felt a chill and did what everyone else did, and called my loved ones to talk about it. Then I got it and realized this was war.

Until then, my behaviour was flippant and I took trying to maintain a “good attitude” to ridiculous heights.

On that day, this girl died while trying to save her life from these evil butchers.

  4. I’m afraid I was too flippant as well. I was shocked, sure, but I didn’t really “get it” emotionally for hours. I didn’t even understand why we were turned back at work: after all, no planes were going to hit *our* building! It took most of the day for it to truly sink in.

  5. Patterico, I know you haven’t received my emails. Please delete this comment because it has nothing to do with this post, but there is a blog spam prevention strategy that LGF uses (it’s totally invisible to your end users and easy to implement) that helps them avoid comment spam while receiving several hundred legitimate comments a day.

It’s only a partial solution, but it helps. Please email me at the address I use for this blog or better yet (since I actually check this one), go to http://lovingjacqui.net/contact/ if you want some info on the LGF idea.

  6. What is even more criminal is the flippant attitude people have towards the whole thing today. Some anti-America supporters convey sympathy to the delusional terrorists who participated in the attacks.

    They just don’t get it.
