Debbie Wasserman Schultz Kicked to the Curb

Filed under: General — JVW @ 10:42 am

[guest post by JVW]

As Democrats gather in Philadelphia to coronate Her Clintonic Majesty, the Past, Present, and Future Inevitable Next President of the United States, Hillary! Rodham Clinton, they will apparently do so without their candidate’s most loyal foot soldier. In the aftermath of a Wikileaks document dump showing that employees of the DNC actively sought to undermine the candidacy of Senator Bernard Sanders (Dem Socialist – VT), the party has announced that DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Congresswoman from Florida, will not preside over the convention nor will she have any speaking role.

This brouhaha comes as the Democrats attempt to contrast themselves with last week’s GOP convention in Cleveland, with the Philadelphia meeting stressing themes of party unity. Three of the four nights of the Democrats’ gathering feature banal themes that make use of the word “together”: “United Together,” “Working Together,” and “Stronger Together” (the fourth night features the theme “Still Getting Away with It after All These Years”). The revelations in the Wikileaks email dump that key DNC employees conspired to use Sanders’ religious faith (or lack thereof) against him in Bible Belt primaries has roiled the Sanders folks who have long complained that the DNC had tilted the primary rules to favor Mrs./Senator/Secretary Clinton. For his part, Sanders has called upon Wasserman Schultz to step down as DNC Chair — probably a fait accompli after the election is over — and he has already endorsed her far-left primary opponent who is running against her in this election cycle.

Sanders could have kept his powder dry and held off on endorsing Clinton until the convention, which would have brought an element of excitement to what otherwise promises to be a dull and overly-scripted four nights. Had he done so, he might have had more influence over her Vice-President pick and he might have even pulled the party even further to the left in the run up to November than it has already traveled. Instead, he meekly and obediently climbed aboard her bandwagon two weeks ago, suggesting that at the end of the day his candidacy was a lot more about tactics than principle, and that rather than changing the corrupt culture in Washington he merely wants to redirect it to his own ends.

The joke on Sanders is that the big money men in his new party are not going to accept some far-left lunatic in the role of DNC Chair, so look for Hillary to appoint a longstanding Washington insider and party hack and for the Senator from Vermont to go back to his role as the gadfly crank occupying the crazy end of the political spectrum. Well played, Hillary!, well played indeed.

  1. And you know the damnedest thing about all of this? Come November, the dysfunctional party in Philadelphia will probably eke out a victory over the dysfunctional party in Cleveland. We truly are living in the epoch of the stupid.

  5. Nah, Trump will crush Hillary. That’s what you folks aren’t getting.

OK, Denver Guy, I’ll play along. Here is a sample electoral map where the electoral college is divided up perfectly, 269 votes for each candidate. In order for your guy to “crush Hillary,” tell me which of the blue states on that map he is going to win (and we’ll even grant you the assumption that he will hold all of the red states)
    Washington
    Oregon
    California
    Colorado
    New Mexico
    Minnesota
    Wisconsin
    Michigan
    Illinois
    Pennsylvania
    Virginia
    Maryland
    Delaware
    New York
    New Jersey
    Connecticut
    Rhode Island
    Massachusetts
    Vermont
    Maine

And how much more likely is it that he wins in the above states, versus the likelihood that he loses in one or more of the following red states:
    Nevada
    Iowa
    Missouri
    Ohio
    North Carolina
    Florida
    New Hampshire

He ain’t winning California, I guarandamntee you that. Even if he wins everything in red and picks up some of the NE states, he will need to pick up enough to overcome 55 votes. The only way Trump can even consider this is he wins the electoral votes from New York. Almost everybody else is single digits.

  12. A LITTLE off-topic, but …

Has anybody else noticed the current TV commercials in which the “plot” focuses on the so-called “wage gap” between men and women? In the past hour, I’ve seen a Bud Light commercial and a Secret deodorant commercial that explicitly mention the importance of eliminating the “wage gap.”

Of course, the “wage gap” is a figment of the Left’s collective imagination, as economists Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams have explained in numerous columns throughout the years. Still, I find it odd that major advertisers such as Budweiser and Secret would be tackling the exact same “social” issue in commercials just as a Presidential campaign is kicking into high gear. (I won’t get into the fact that the Bud Lite commercials are overwhelmingly “blue” in their color motifs. Yes, Bud Lite cans are blue, but I think they could have easily toned things down a little – if they were interested in being impartial.)

Anyway, what are the chances that these corporate giants are not-so-subtly trying to influence voters by chiming in on an issue that appeals to Hillary and her mindless minions?

    That is all.

    happyfeet (28a91b) — 7/24/2016 @ 11:27 am

That’s all very wishful and hopeful and stuff, but the fact is the blue states are blue for a reason. Most of those blue states like the thought of socialism, and they’re going to install it wherever they can. Living in Chicago by way of North Hollywood you should know this.

You can blow as hard as you want for Trump. You ain’t getting him. At least, not without some work on your part. Calling Clinton “stinkypig” on a blog doesn’t cut it.

  40. @32- It’s her convention, not Obama’s. No balls. Even to defer to Obama, which apparently she has in so far as how they’ve orchestrated statements, an ‘I want her fired today’ press release would demonstrate executive authority. Instead, HRC spinners are out wih a kissy-kissy thank you– and blaming the Russians. Which inevitably leads back to her questions on own secret server likely getting hacked by them as well. She can’t have it both ways. How it is handled is what it reveals. Keeping DWS around for the week is a poor decision. And it reinforces what The Great White Dope and Sanders have been saying: the system is rigged. DWS should be fired immediately.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  41. @33- Essentially, it’s her party now- not Obama’s as it’s her convention. A grey area but given her capacity to avoid responsibility for anything, she’ll likely let Obama do the dirty work– which is apparently how they’re orchestrating the press releases– but a press release from her saying ‘I want her fired today’ would show executive authority and decisiveness. Instead, it’s a kiss-azz ‘thanks for your work’ and the Russians did it. No fingerprints. No balls. No responsibility. Blame others. It reinforces the Trump/Sanders assertions that the system is rigged.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  42. It would be hard to fire DWS right now. No — check that — it would be hard to replace her right now. The Sanders folks would demand that one of their own ascend to the chair, but Hillary! and the other party poobahs couldn’t countenance turning the party over to the riff-raff. My guess is that some deputy chairman steps in and runs thing through the campaign, and then Hillary! chooses the DWS replacement once the election is over (unless she ends up losing, in which case the Sanders people will probably take over the party).

    JVW (f97acd)

  43. #36 Denver Guy,

How does replacing DWS help Hillary win the election? I’m not following that logic.
And why hasn’t Barack replaced her yet?

  44. HRC has held absolute veto power over the DNC from the moment she resigned as SecState. She has run it through her minion DWS for at least a couple of years.

DWS is the latest to learn in a very bitter and personal way that loyalty with the Clintons is a one-way street. She was a good little Nazi. The leaked emails were her ultimate downfall. Unless, of course, HRC made this very deal with Bernie weeks ago – she survives only through the convention.

No, you missed my point. I agree that the Obama/Clinton axis can fire DWS; that they have already done. What they could not get away with though is trying to replace her before the election. Why? Because they want a typical party hack who is acceptable to the labor/entertainment/regulatory interest groups who provide the party’s major funding, and if they tried to bring someone like that in now they would anger the Sanders folks, who want a left-wing purist who seeks to crush business and plunder the wealthy. That’s why they have to wait until after the election before appointing a permanent chair.

I hope you’re not serious, Sammy. These people know EXACTLY how they are contributing to those misconceptions. It’s their goal.

The two choices I offered were:

The people doing marketing for major companies (not necessarily the people running thse companies)

    either

    1) Aren’t really good at economic analysis

That is, don’t know that’s all wrong, evene if the same thing seems to be coming from all directions, and that does apply to abunch of other things that corporations, in ads, have sned on to, like going “green”

    OR – well I said, and/or

    2) don’t realize they should not contribute to misconceptions

    2)

Not that , in that case, don’t know that’s what they;re doing.

I think to concede these ideas is bad for them in the long run. nd they wind up ling iin some way. It has to be so if there is not a problem in the first place.

Hell, they have most of society believing it’s a hate crime to call a “transgender” by “he” even though he’s a he! We as society are supposed to perpetuate the lie to perpetuate the sexual dysfunction of some poor guy who “identifies” as a woman. Don’t get the guy some help, just lie and call him a girl. Makes Goebbels look like Honest Abe.

We had now the NBA cancelling championship in North Carolina because of a law passed in North Carolina. The very idea of punishing a state for the politics theer should be outrageous. It’s a complete challnge to self-government. Governor Mike Pece caved in on this sort of thing , too. What if it goes beyond this to something more important?

And it won’t go also, to any laws, let’s say that hurt people. Just laws which have avery strong lobby against them. It’s genuine liberal fascism, and it is not a nice sight to see.

Corporations also backed out of sponsoring the Republican National Convention. The first question is, why were they doing this thing in the first place? a political party is not a “feel-good” cause. The second thing is, it’s not really related to the degree of controversy. It’s more like a 2-minutes hate. And they want to attack Donald Trump not for what he does, but what he doesn’t do, what he isn’t, or to use the wrong words to describe what he does support, not having the guts to go at it head on. This is not good. There’s plenty wrong with him, but this is not good. It’s not based on genuine conviction.

Um, no, it makes perfect sense to give her a job in the campaign, in fact the campaign had an ethical duty to take her in, since the leaked emails show that she’s been working for it all along. That was her offense.

Oh, and calling her “Hitlary” is not funny and not appropriate.

She violated the critical ethical rule about political dirty tricks: Don’t get caught.

Was she supposed to realie that the Russians were spying on her and would leak this to help Donald Trump?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/25/us/politics/donald-trump-russia-emails.html

It was a remarkable moment: Even at the height of the Cold War, it was hard to find a presidential campaign willing to charge that its rival was essentially secretly doing the bidding of a key American adversary. But the accusation is emerging as a theme of Mrs. Clinton’s campaign, as part of an attempt to portray Mr. Trump not only as an isolationist, but also as one who would go soft on confronting Russia as it threatens nations that have shown too much independence from Moscow or, in the case of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, joined NATO.

Mr. Trump has also said he would like to “get along with Russia” if he is elected, and complimented Mr. Putin, saying he is more of a leader than President Obama. Mr. Putin has in turn praised Mr. Trump. But Trump campaign officials on Sunday strongly rejected any connections between their candidate and efforts to undermine the Democrats….

I don’t know why they should fight back against it. The other possibility would be that it was done by a Republican. It’s too late to help Bernie Sanders.

The New York Times says there were actually two separate breaches by two different two Russian intelligence agencies, who did not seem to be aware of each other’s activities, and metadata from the released emails suggests that the documents passed through Russian computers. The New York Times is careful to say that it’s anyone’s guess whether the e-mail thefts were ordered by Mr. Putin, or just carried out by apparatchiks who thought they might please him. Well, you can guess. I would guess this is not going on without Vladimir Putin’s knowledge and consent, especially after it hasd bene leaked.

    Sayeth the New York Times:

It may take months, or years, to figure out the motives of those who stole the emails, and more important, whether they were being commanded by Russian authorities, and specifically by Mr. Putin. But the theft from the national committee would be among the most important state-sponsored hacks yet of an American organization, rivaled only by the attacks on the Office of Personnel Management by state-sponsored Chinese hackers, and the attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment, which Mr. Obama blamed on North Korea. There, too, embarrassing emails were released, but they had no political significance. The WikiLeaks release, however, has more of a tinge of Russian-style information war, in which the intent of the revelations is to alter political events. Exactly how, though, is a bit of a mystery, apart from embarrassing Democrats and further alienating Mr. Sanders’s supporters from Mrs. Clinton.

I would say that’s the part that Vladimir Putin hasn’t quite figured out – but he does things when the effect can only be positive for him. It might do nothing, or it might split the Democrats maybe, but it won;t help Hillary. And maybe Donald Trump will appreciate it.

  87. The Russians also breached the White House, the State Department and the Joint Chiefs of Staff last year, but they did not get into Hillary and Bill’s server in New York, or else we would see some leaks from there, too.

The proof is in the pudding. No leaks to Wikileaks of e-mail from clintonemail.com

I explained on another thread how their server in Bill’s office in Harlem (not Chappaqua, that’s another Clinton lie) had better security than the State Department, or almost anybody else:

    https://patterico.com/2016/07/19/its-trump See particularly comment #57

    1) There was no password recovery back door. To recover or reset a password, the user called up the SYSOP personally. Password reset is a big way many email accounts are hacked.

    2) If anyone tried a brute force password attack, it would be detected and the system shut down, and it was.

    3) The system had a limited number of users, and nobody would click on a message from a bank or anything else like that, so it was not vulnerable to phishing attacks. Hillary Clinton almost certainly did not lick on unexpected messages. If somebody, let’s say, did, it would be instantly detectable that this was a phony message. If for some reason a user was indeed fooled, they’d get unfooled when they emailed someone back. This is maybe hacking detection rather than prevention, but the FBI a successful hack was never detected.

    4) Any hacker who discovered the email address, through hacking other people, who communicated with Hillary Clinton who weer not using clintonemail.com would still not know what kind of software was installed at clintonemail.com and would not know what Torjan horse to include in a phishing message.

    5) Nobody (apparently) used extremely simple passwords.

    So I said:

It had more security than that of state.gov, where, by the way, she deliberately undermined the anti-spam software for a while – or of commercial e-mail accounts, and was secure from prosecutors, subpoenas, internal government investigations like those conducted by Inspector Generals, Congressional committees, and Freedom of Information Requests as well!

I don’t know all of these things for a fact, but I highly suspect it, and this is niow being confrmed by what is, and what is NOT being leaked. I said two more things, done by many banks now, the first one which may have been done to some degree, and the second one which probably wasn’t, could have made it practically impervious to any attack.

    1) Password requirements rendering the password impervious to a dictionary or simple formula attack.

    2) Allowing connections only from registered devices. Every bank does this now, and it’s pretty good. Now the thing with a bank’s one is, a new device could be approved by answering security questions. But if they had done that on clintonemail.com, you would have had to talk to the SYSOP in person, which is much better security.

The system also had limited thruput and had any hackers been in there someone would have noticed trouble with the system.

It doesn’t matter how well attackers could cover up their tracks afterwards by changing back any file dates that were changed and so on. They never would get in in the first place, because all the traditional tactics wouldn’t work, or go unnoticed if they did get in.

    The system was too small.

Mr. Putin does so so much more than our own press does to create an informed electorate here in failmerica.

It’s quite extraordinary. </blockquote. The thing is, the press here doesn't break the law. And if it tried, they wouldn't be able to get away with it so easily.

But Putin's not telling anybody anything about Donald Trump, except what the fact of his intervention tells about Trump (or people associated with Trump.)

That's why the Trump campaign doesn't like to acknowledge it was Putin. But who else was it who broke into the DNC's computers? G. Gordon Liddy?

Now the real problem was that Hillary didn't help with the security but left the DNC to its own devices.

  92. Tim Kaine, like Hillary Clinton, publicly disclosed all or a lot of the money he got. Like Hillary, he didn’t disclose the real reason he got it.

From a front page New York Times story Sunday as continued inside

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/23/us/politics/tim-kaine-history.html?_r=0

As a politician, Mr. Kaine has been scandal-free. But under Virginia’s liberal ethics laws at the time, he accepted more than $120,000 worth of gifts, including some from companies with business before the state, while he was lieutenant governor and governor.

The gifts were legal but national Republicans, irked by public corruption charges against Mr. Kaine’s Republican successor, Bob McDonnell, for accepting gifts, have signaled they intend to use them to attack Mr. Kaine’s character this fall.

There was a followup story on page A11 today:
