Senator John Warner calls it Quits
[Guest post by DRJ]
I’m not knowledgeable about Virginia politics but this seems like good news & bad news:
“Republican Sen. John Warner of Virginia, one of the most authoritative voices in Congress on the military and a key figure in the debate over Iraq, said Friday he will not seek a sixth term in 2008.”
There’s nothing worse than some old conservative with an opinion on everything who repeatedly undermines the leader of his own Party. (Except, of course, insofar as that applies to me - which it undoubtedly does on occasion.)
Any idea what this means for Virginia politics?

“There’s nothing worse than some old conservative with an opinion on everything who repeatedly undermines the leader of his own Party.”
Except for one that isn’t seeking re-election and feels comfortable taking the gloves off. Gah.

Here’s the first candidate, Rep. Tom Davis, to throw his hat in the ring.

Well, for one thing it means Jim Warner is likely to run for the Democratic nomination.

Sean,
Gov. Warner would have to be the favorite, wouldn’t he?

Who’s “Jim Warner?”

Maybe Macaca Allen will give it another go?

It means that the GOP will probably lose the Warner’s Senate seat as well as the Tom Davis’ House seat.

It means that the Democrats will win this seat…if Mark Warner runs. Warner will not lose. A shame.

Warner won’t run. He has the same problem as Craig.
