Right Wing Fox Shoots Man

Oh, can you believe this example of horrible right wing violence by (a) fox?

A wounded fox shot its would be killer in Belarus by pulling the trigger on the hunter’s gun as the pair scuffled after the man tried to finish the animal off with the butt of the rifle, media said Thursday.

The unnamed hunter, who had approached the fox after wounding it from a distance, was in hospital with a leg wound, while the fox made its escape, media said, citing prosecutors from the [Grodno, Belarus] region.

“The animal fiercely resisted and in the struggle accidentally pulled the trigger with its paw,” one prosecutor was quoted as saying.

I blame Sarah Palin, because she likes hunting or something.

Update: As Simon in the comments points out, obviously we cannot trust Fox News on the subject.  They are going to be biased in favor of the Fox.

  1. Did you get this one-sided report from Faux News? Was this politically motivated? Where are the Tweets of Outrage? Where is the Ingrid Newkirk interview?

  2. “one prosecutor was quoted…”

Prosecutor? Who’s being prosecuted? Is the man pressing charges against the fox – or is he being prosecuted for attempting to kill a fox with his gun butt?

  3. It does seem incredibly cruel to try to finish off an animal with brute force.

I wasn’t there, so I guess I don’t know why that went down that way, but if I have to kill an animal, basic humanity forces me to do so with minimal pain.

  4. My guess is he wanted to save the pelt. You don’t reach down to a wounded animal and finish it off with a knife. Not if you want to keep your hands. And one good blow with a rifle might do it – if you connect.

Doesn’t sound like he’d make much of a baseball player, does it? Or a golfer, when it comes to swinging a club.

  5. That’s a very good explanation, Gesundheit. I guess i have that creep shooter on my mind and wasn’t really thinking about it.

  6. I’ve decided to blame Sarah Palin for every trivial annoyance in my life. That way nothing is ever my fault, and it’s far more realistic than blaming God which is what I used to do.

  7. How do they know the fox *accidentally* pulled the trigger?

  8. Br’er Fox, he lay low, lickin’ his wounds and thankin’ de lowrd ob all he done get a shot off hisseff.

  9. I blame the Belarus NRA – guns don’t kill people, foxes kill people. Also, rumors are that the fox was spurred onward towards violence after listening to many incendiary rants by the neighborhood mink.

  10. More sadly, a couple of years ago I came across a news item about how a popular high school teacher was killed when his hunting dog, in its excitement to go bird hunting with him, stepped on a loaded shotgun in the bed of his pickup and shot him fatally.

I still hand that article out when I teach hunter education class.

  11. Actually, since this is Belarus, isn’t there a good chance this is an ex-Communist fox, and therefore this is an example of left wing violence?

  12. Interesting story. Most people I know don’t usually attempt to engage in hand to hand combat with wounded animals.

Guess they do things differently in Belarus.

  13. What kind of moron shoots a fur bearing animal for it’s pelt? Shooting ruins the pelt, so that’s why he should use a trap.

Wasn’t the “mink” killed at the end of “Miller’s Crossing“?

  17. Moral: Don’t use a rifle butt as a club if you have another, better option; but if you have to, unload the rifle first.

  18. Comrade Fox determined that Comrade Hunter was actually a counter-revolutionary, so naturally he had to be shot.
