Hillary for Secretary of State!

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:26 am

I think Hillary would be perfect. (H/t Instapundit.) She’s so knowledgeable about foreign affairs! Remember how knowledgeable she was about Pakistan?

  1. She got at least the same impeccable knowledge as joe biden

  2. Great, now how about Bill Ayres for Director of Homeland Security, or Sandy Burgler for Director of the National Archives, Tony Rezko for Housing and Urban Development, Calypso Louie as Commander of Domestic Security Forces.

  3. Could be worse… Could be Kerry…

  4. That would also make her fourth in line to be President.

  5. Scott, are you sure Kerry would be worse?

I’m not opposed to peppering the staff with Clintonistas generally (a recap of Bill without the moral turpitude would be a substantially better outcome than I currently anticipate) but this particular Clinton doesn’t strike me as a good idea.

Speaking of former opponents, maybe John Edwards can be in charge of No Child Left Behind.

  6. I’m absolutely positive he’d be worse…

My only real and frank concern would be that many of the global hotspots have, shall we say, less than enlightened views of women.

But I fully believe she could keep Putin in check to a degree that neither Biden, Obama, or Kerry ever could.

  7. I remember her being shot at as she landed in … where was that again?

  8. The Achilles heel of all administrations is the bringing in, or the retaining of, the ne’er-do-well’s of previous administrations. Old Jimmy Carter and/or Bill Clinton people will undermine any “Audacity of Hope” in Obama’s Admin. Zbigniew Brzezinski, resurrected as Hillary, scares me.

  10. This deal was probably made months ago when Hillary and Obama had that secret meeting between just the two of them in Washington D.C. (I think it was at Feinstein’s house?) Hil said the O’man, hey, I’ll support your bid for POTUS, but when you win, you gotta give me some gravy! Either Supreme Court slot, or SOS or some other very high level position. And the O’man said sure, no problem, done deal. No surprises here.

  11. j.Raymond – Were that scenario to be the case, that would constitute a surprise, because up to now, Baracky’s word is only good for the moment of time that it passes over his lips.

  12. #5, JRM, your John Edwards comment was really good. I didn’t go to the floor, but I was LMAO, still am. And, that pompous twit deserves every bit of it.

  13. President-elect Obama may offer Sentor Clinton the Secretary of State position if he was certain that she would refuse. He would gain support from die hard Clintonistas without having to let the nose of the camel into the tent.

Senator Clinton, if she is smart, will stay a Senator or, if she no longer wishes to be President, will angle for a Supreme Court appointment it is for life while a Secretary of State’s position can be very temporary if someone must be “thrown under the bus” to cover for a major Presidental diplomatic blunder.

  14. *sigh*
And I thought Madeline Albright was an epic failure…

But, maybe this is the payoff he negotiated with Billy Jeff, in lieu of cash of course, so the He and Hillz would get on board the Obama express…

Still, the whole notion makes my head hurt…

  15. This is the same lady who said she landed to sniper fire in Bosnia isn’t it?
How can they show their faces in public after such huge lies? Nevermind the possibility that she will “negotiate” on behalf of our Country. I thought the first rule of negotiations is to be perceived as having at least some sense of honesty. Politics are politics; but a liar is always a liar.

  17. I actually think she’d be ok, considering I’m not going to get whoever it was McCain would have chosen.

She’s tough- political repudiation of the Iraq war aside. She understands, better than many, why Bush has made the choices he made.
She would protect us from Obama’s naive, internationalist instincts.

Only GOP SoS’s are allowed to “free-lance”, so to speak.
Dem SoS’s must toe the line, or face being thrown under the bus.
Hillary would just be a mouthpiece for the President as Sec. – of course, that is what the job entails. Any straying from the approved course of action would be dismissal time.

    She’ll stay in the Senate.

Kerry’s too stupid to have any independent thoughts –
He’ll make a wonderful Secretary of State.

  19. As much as I love that hottie MayBee 😉 she must know that disagreement with Teh One will not be tolerated.

    JD (94c827)

  20. I’m not sure it she would disagree with him, necessarily.

It is my belief that Obama began this campaign as an anti-flag pin wearing, America is the root of the problem-thinking, if we’re nice nobody will hurt us-believing, leftist.
Since then, he has realized that he was being idealistic and naive, and now- for the first time in his life- has some understanding of the country in which he lives.

So he needs Hillary to go out there and be Hillary, because he can’t appoint someone that would actually do what he used to want done.

    MayBee (d8edb1)

  21. #20, MayBee, I’m with you about Obama’s leftist attitudes initially, but what in the confounded cat hair makes you say that, “Since then, he has realized…for the first time in his life…some understanding…”

When did this epiphany occur, what makes you so sure, where’s the beef?

  23. Hillary as Sec of State would be a good sign for the limiting of Obama’s power. She would be a politically motivated appointee with her own power base and a mind of her own.

That’s why I don’t think it will happen.

Besides, I think Hillary supporters are going to be targeted as moderates. They were against The One. That is not acceptable.

    I concur wholeheartedly.

Which is why we wish, I wish, I wish, for Sec. of State.

Kerry was already negotiating a treaty with the North Vietnamese long ago. We don’t need our Sec. of State leading the defamation of US troops, and I don’t think he’ll threaten with, “Watch it mister, or we’ll send Attila the Hun and his barbarians after you”.

In addition, thinking that is independent of O’s might be good; but then again, she did write her undergrad thesis on Alinsky, and I don’t think it was a critique.

  26. That crafty Obama! As his SoS she’ll set foot in the USA about once every seven months. LOL!

Look for extensive talks in Kazakistan, Myanmar, and many other craphole countries.

    John425 (eae6ea)

  27. Right, John425! Obama’s as dumb as a fox. He will send Hillary all over the place to help with foreign relations so he won’t have to deal with her and Slick Willie here in the states. Obama may be a member of the leftist illuminati, but he ain’t dumb.

    Jeff (337860)

  28. Didn’t Obama campaign against her on the platform that she was wrong on Iraq? Wasn’t his entire attack of her based on her failed foreign policy votes?

It would make his campaign statements look foolish if he appointed her. I don’t see it happening even if it got her out of the country. On the other hand, maybe he would arrange for some sniper fire!

    Alta Bob (4456c1)

  29. Hillary can dodge sniper fire on airport tarmacs better than most!

Hillary would be quite fitting as a member of Obama’s Banana-Republic America.

  30. When did this epiphany occur, what makes you so sure, where’s the beef?

Because I think the only people he knew were leftist Hyde Parkers and people like his Grandfather who reinforced his worldview. Now he’s actually met Americans from outside his bubble as well as people with serious, real-world foreign policy experience. I don’t think he’d spent any time with anybody but theorists like Samantha Powers before.
    I don’t have any proof, it’s just a feeling I have.

    MayBee (d8edb1)

  31. Barack Obama’s decision to offer Hillary Clinton the Secretary of State post could well turn out to be his first major blunder, for these obvious reasons:

First, there’s the inseparable bond with her husband Bill. Given the duo’s unquenchable thirst for power, they would not be content to play second fiddle. From day one they would be scheming to usurp control of the White House. Once they get a foothold, Obama would be hard-pressed to rein them in.

Then, there’s the Clintons’ long history of corruption, deception and sleaze—Whitewatergate, Pardongate, Cattle-futuresgate, Chinagate, Filegate, Fellatiogate, the impeachment and near conviction, the punitive IRS audits, the violent deaths of potentially incriminating witness. This alone would provide Obama’s enemies with all the grime they needed to smear his presidency.

Consider further that unlike a Condoleezza Rice or a Madelaine Albright—not to mention bona fide statesmen like Henry Kissinger, Dean Rusk and John Foster Dulles–Hillary Clinton lacks the educational and cultural gravitas to represent our nation abroad. Her lawyering in Arkansas and stint in Congress doesn’t quite cut it. She did get 18 million votes in the Democratic primaries, probably more than Obama, but a large proportion of those votes were cast by diehard feminists and the less educated, hardly the constituency whose support lends credibility to a Secretary of State.

Barack Obama should recall the reasons why he didn’t choose Hillary as his VP running mate. For his and the nation’s sake, let us hope that she doesn’t accept his Secretary of State offer.
