Conservative Blog Awards

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 8:31 pm

As if the Weblog Awards weren’t enough, we also have “Conservative Blog Awards.” Until today, I hadn’t been aware of “The 7th Annual Right Wing News Conservative Blog Awards” but here are the results. I was nominated for “Best Original Reporting By A Blog” and managed to come in last. (I came in fourth with 5 votes, right behind the Jawa Report, which came in third with 5 votes. No typo; look for yourself!) I’m cool with that, given the folks coming in ahead of me.

P.S. I guess I’m about to lose that 2008 Weblog Awards thing. According to the current standings the prize will go to one of three liberal blogs. And Hot Air will lose its category to the insufferable Andrew Sullivan.

It’s almost enough to make one write off the contest as stupid.

P.P.S. And sealing the deal: Treacher’s poor performance in the Humor category. Go vote for the guy, huh?

  1. When the voting total in the “Best Blog” category doesn’t crack 100k, I think it’s safe to say there is a silent majority who don’t put much creedence in self serving media promotions. Oscar’s, Golden Globes, etc, etc.

  2. This is the best blog in its category.

And Hot Air in its. And Instapundit in its.

That Andrew Sullivan is winning is kinda meaningless… it’s not a good blog. I know that Wonkette’s blog (merely commenters) was distributing those bot programs to screw with this contest, but I can’t understand why someone would spend effort and integrity over something so silly.

Anyway, it’s my faith in mankind that makes me assume that Andrew Sullivan’s victory has got to be some kind of shenanigans. Hopefully by people who want to irritate normal people, and not by Sullivan worshipers.

  3. Look, the awards are silly. (And yes, I’d say that even if we’d won.) Not only are the nominees in each category arbitrary — we were the only conservative entry in Best Blog so we didn’t have to compete with anyone on our own side — but the outcome depends almost entirely on who campaigns and who doesn’t. Sullivan’s written multiple posts about the contest in the last few days and has a permanent sidebar link up; Ed wrote one post on our site last week, which is one more than I’ve written. If Kos gave a damn enough to promote it, he’d have walked away with 50,000 votes and the title.

Weblog Award = Traffic x Contest Links. Quality has nothing to do with it.

  4. Who cares about stupid contests? I don’t.

I read what I want to read and skip the rest.

  5. I voted for Patterico early and often.
The only humor blog I really wanted to vote for, Iowahawk, wasn’t on the list.

  6. but, as usual, Iowahawk solved the problem before we even knew it was one…..

    Look!

  8. There is an avalanche of interest in these blogs.

5 Votes versus 6? Well, statistically it is almost irrelevant.

  9. (I came in fourth with 5 votes, right behind the Jawa Report, which came in third with 5 votes. No typo; look for yourself!)

    Stupid alphabetical order!
