MAGA voters require their politicians to act like buffoons and propose outlandish ideas and alienate the dominant culture because that alienation is the core of the appeal.

…a more anodyne MAGA would not generate the same enthusiasm and would be easily overtaken by another spasm of “outsiders” more willing to dish out the crazy.

We continue to see the results of such a demand and strategy.
