Hillary PERSONALLY Raised Cash that Went to Campaign of Wife of FBI Official Overseeing Her Investigation

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 9:00 am

Remember the other day when we learned that Clinton bag man Terry McAuliffe had raised money for the campaign of a wife of an FBI official overseeing the Hillary email investigation? That seemed bad enough, since he never recused himself. Well, it’s gotten worse, since it looks like Hillary raised a lot of that money herself:

Hillary Clinton headlined a major fundraiser for a political action committee shortly before the group steered nearly $500,000 to the wife of the FBI official who oversaw the Clinton email investigation, DailyMail.com has learned.

Clinton’s ties to the Common Good VA – a Virginia state PAC run by Clinton’s long-time friend and advisor Terry McAuliffe, its governor – came under scrutiny this week after the Wall Street Journal reported that the group donated heavily to the state senate campaign of Jill McCabe.

Her husband Andrew McCabe led the FBI investigation into Clinton’s emails.

Andrew McCabe, now the deputy director of the FBI, told the Wall Street Journal that he complied with federal ethics rules and was not promoted to lead the Clinton probe until months after his wife’s unsuccessful state senate bid ended.

Saying McCabe “led” the FBI investigation is a bit of an aggressive characterization. He was a supervisor, high up in the chain of command of the team that conducted the investigation. But given all the fuss we saw about Loretta Lynch just meeting with Bill Clinton before the decision, this seems like a big deal. Hillary’s appearance at the fundraiser was on June 26, 2015, and contributions from the PAC went to McCabe’s wife in June, August, and October of the same year.

I said the other day:

Hillary defenders will no doubt argue that McCabe only assumed an oversight position after the political donations, and took steps to stay out of his wife’s campaign after his wife received the donation. Why, his wife’s campaign was even over once he assumed the oversight position! they will say.

That’s not good enough. The American people would naturally assume that, once Hillary Clinton’s longtime and well-known ally scratched the McCabes’ back, Hillary expected a back-scratch in return. That’s how it works, folks. And it’s that kind of crap, frankly, that fuels the anger that drives Donald Trump’s campaign.

Now that Hillary Clinton has been directly tied to the fundraising, the expectation of a quid pro quo is even stronger. When your spouse is running for office, that is a community effort. Many people (not Donald Trump so much, as we’ll learn later today, but many people) fund their own political campaigns. And in a marriage, everything is community property. So when someone pumps a bunch of money into your spouse’s campaign, that’s money in your pocket.

It is astonishing to me that this McCabe did not recuse himself from the investigation into Hillary Clinton. But I guess that’s how Washington works these days. McCabe is certainly not the only person high up in the FBI who has done Hillary a favor or two.

  1. Glad you posted this… I was looking for a place to post the link to AoS.

Your point is well taken as to McCabe in particular. But from the perspective of a dedicated Clintonista, one would certainly want to do one’s very best to “fix” as much as possible up and down the chain.

The fix was in at the top (Cabinet level, i.e., Lynch) long, long before the airplane meeting with Bubba. That occasion was intended to send a message all the way down the chain, though, much more effectively than any “Memo from the Director to All FBI Personnel” could ever have done. It wasn’t a slip-up or misstep; both of these people and their scheduling & travel staffs who set up the meeting know that their whereabouts are watched and that this meeting was the total opposite of “covert.” Nope, that meeting was the equivalent of leaving the damned horse’s head in the bloody bed sheets, and you’re a pretty damned dull FBI agent if you haven’t seen “The Godfather.”

That’s why my conclusion about Comey, subject to further evidence, is that he’s too stupid to know how badly he’s been corrupted. The Clintonistas custom-tailored their fix; they applied constant pressure at every point; and they know that with the Democratic machine and the MSM solidly behind them no matter what, they can get away with anything — having had that spectacularly demonstrated in the constitutional drama of Bubba’s impeachment (which a few at the FBI might also remember).

  4. I fully expect to hear stories like this for the next four years.
Their corruption is boundles. The gullibility and credulousness of the American voting public ensures that the Clintons will pay no political price for their crimes, and their subversion of the FBI and the Justice Dept. guarantees that there will be no interference with their plans.

  5. And lest anyone misinterpret my reference to “Cabinet level” being the “top” of the investigation & prosecution stage: I also harbor no doubt whatsoever that the fix was approved, indeed directed, by Lynch’s boss, Obama.

Watch for the Thanksgiving Day Pardon, by the way, which might go something like this:

As President Ford did when pardoning Richard Nixon, I have decided that the nation needs to heal its wounds from this divisive campaign, so that our next president has a fair opportunity to achieve her goal of making us stronger together. I see this as my constitutional duty, using the presidential pardon power written into the Constitution; even Ted Cruz will admit that it’s the sitting president’s power to use, and I’m the sitting president until next January. President-Elect Clinton’s political opponents will nevertheless pretend to be outraged, but in fact this is a very inconsequential pardon, since the FBI has already cleared her of all criminal conduct retroactively going back to the Big Bang. And to give her the benefit of the fresh start that Donald Trump bragged about getting from our nation’s bankruptcy courts — well, actually, he got four fresh starts! — I hereby pardon Hillary Clinton, and for good measure her spouse Bill, of and from all liability, civil or criminal, state or federal, domestic or international, and prospectively through and including the date of her inauguration. And to show you that this is genuinely a bipartisan decision, I’m also pardoning Gen. David Petraeus. And, um, Sandy Berger, John Podesta, Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin, and Carlos Danger.

  6. I am not surprised that this happened. I am surprised that it is being defended.

“Oh, it couldn’t have been a bribe because he received the money before he was asked for the favor!”

  7. The just-released Showtime documentary about Carlos Danger, btw, is compelling television — not because of him. (He’s an utter putz, an unredeemed and unredeemable chickensh*t; the film simply reaffirms that in such granular detail that it leaves “over the top” about 40,000 feet below.) The “second lead” in the documentary is, of course, Huma, and it’s the footage with her that I re-wound and re-watched.

I can see that the Clintons probably think there are scenes in the documentary that will present Huma very sympathetically, and to a huge chunk of Clinton’s “First! Woman! President!” crowd, the documentary will indeed have that effect. The timing is surely intended to be for get-out-the-vote purposes.

But in between those scenes, there are many other extended glimpses of her that I found absolutely chilling, and utterly inconsistent with the sympathetic scenes. Yes, she’s got heroic grounds for grievance. But she’s obviously a master manipulator herself, anything but helpless or overwhelmed. At no moment is she anything less than in complete control of herself, and she’s always the dominant alpha presence in any room. The “I was a fool for love” act just doesn’t sell unless you are eager to be sold. And therefore, in the end, one must again ask oneself:

What secret does Carlos have over Huma, or that Carlos & Huma have over Hillary or Bill, that gives Huma enough job security to have stayed married to this guy through so many self-destructions? (As best I can tell, they’re still just “legally separated,” which is a term of art and sometimes deliberate obfuscation in New York family law practice, I gather.)

  8. If actual evidence is produced showing diversion of campaign funds for personal use, this might be a story. I doubt such evidence exists and McCabe’s performance as a candidate justifies the political calculation made to support her in the Democrat effort to flip majority control of the Senate of Virginia. Three candidates were strongly backed in an effort to flip two seats. One succeeded and two failed. The amount given to McCabe’s campaigned raised it to parity with her opponent’s campaign and was less than the amount given to either of the other two campaigns.

McAuliffe is a Clinton bagman and they’re both as dirty as the bottom of a full septic tank but I fail to see why they would even bother to buy McCabe when they had Lynch and Comey pocketed.

  11. I wonder if this prompted the FBI to re-open the Clinton server investigation? To liberals, it is better to relitigate that story than to cover this one.

  12. From the link:

The FBI will re-open its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, bureau director James Comey said in a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday.

“In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation … I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation,” he wrote.

I wonder what that unrelated case is?

    DRJ (15874d)

  13. I’m also pardoning Gen. David Petraeus. And, um, Sandy Berger, John Podesta, Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin, and Carlos Danger.

Why not add Webb Hubbell, Susan McDouglal, Johnny Cheung, James Riady, Jim Guy Tucker. . .

    JVW (6e49ce)

  14. @DRJ:To liberals, it is better to relitigate that story than to cover this one.

I know, right? They must be thinking that if the FBI excuses her once, and it doesn’t quite take with the public, having the FBI excuse her TWICE should do the trick.

Why Trump hasn’t been investigated by the FBI even once, and Hillary’s had it TWICE! So she’s obviously much cleaner.

    Gabriel Hanna (64d4e1)

  15. Hey, how about this as a Hollywood-style turn of events:

As we know, Anthony Weiner is being investigated by the FBI for potentially soliciting sex from a minor across state lines. He’s a coward, and he decides he’s not going to go down alone, so he tells the FBI agents, “Hey, if you’ll take it easy on me I have some information about the Clintons that will really interest you.” The FBI agents in this case are already pissed off that their director let Hillary skate over the summer, so they say, “Absolutely. But you have to tell us right now.” That information has been forwarded on to Comey with a warning that if he tries to fix this investigation that Weiner and the agents are going to spill the beans, leaving Comey in a bind. He officially reopens the investigation, knowing that the information won’t come out until Hillary is safely elected. Obama, who never liked her anyway, won’t pardon her and Democrats will be mollified because we will end up with President Tim Kaine. In the irony of ironies, Hillary Clinton — and perhaps her husband — will have at long last been done in by a sexual deviant.

Again, this is pretty fantastical, but it is fun to think about.

  18. @ JVW, who wrote (#10, re my #7) about Huma:

Yes, exactly. Younger, hipper, prettier, but the soul of a cold-blooded cobra.

    Beldar (fa637a)

  19. Beldar — If Clinton is elected, and Obama moves to pardon her, I don’t think that eliminates the prospect for impeachment.

If the GOP holds the house, a pardon by Obama would IMO guarantee an impeachment. Simply getting her free of criminal liability doesn’t eliminate her exposure to being removed for “high crimes and misdemeanors”, and the power of impeachment belongs to Congress and is protected by Separation of Powers.

    shipwreckedcrew (56b591)

  20. @shipwreckedcrew:the power of impeachment belongs to Congress and is protected by Separation of Powers.

Stands to reason, or an impeached President could pardon himself; prospectively if necessary, ala Ford and Nixon.
