President Obama On The Twitters

Filed under: General — Dana @ 6:40 pm

[guest post by Dana]

Clearly the biggest news of the week is…President Obama is now on Twitter. He’s hip! He’s relevant! Or something like that.

I know this makes me sound old and cranky, but part of me feels that this is right up there with presidents making late night talk show appearances or being guests on Saturday Night Live – it diminishes the dignity of the office. I will now resume yelling at kids to get off my lawn…

Be warned though, if you tweet the president, they’re taking names:

Not only does the Secret Service already monitor Twitter for threats, but the White House is archiving each and every thing @POTUS tweeters say.

Judging from some of the unbelievable tweets made to him, a lot of people are either really stupid or simply don’t care about possible repercussions their names being taken.

Clearly, respecting the dignity of the office and the person that is the President of the United States is also not really high on some people’s list.

–Dana

ADDED: There’s just something about the First Amendment that national news reporters and commentators are, sadly, unable to grasp.

Jonathan Capehart of the Washington Post reacts to the racism on Obama’s twitter feed:

There are moments when I come thisclose to quitting Twitter. The amount of hatred squeezed into 140 characters or less by lunatics usually cloaked in anonymity is enough to make you question your support for the First Amendment and your faith in the decency of other people.

  2. dignity of the office lol

  3. I know, happyfeet, but I still believe that should be dignity and respect accorded the office. But it all gets muddled when the person sitting in the office shows less than dignity and respect for both it, and the people he serves.

    Meh.

  7. I still respect the office. I just do not respect anyone who wishes to tear down the US. Like obama.

  8. In my almost 60 years on this mortal coil, I have found no urge to tweet or text thus far. I expect this to continue until I shuffle off.

  9. Wasn’t he already on Twitter, during the campaign on atbarackobama, and in the WH @whitehouse? How many times do he have to join Twitter?

True. If the occupant does not respect the office why should anyone else?

Meanwhile you made me curious. Jefferson introduced indoor bathrooms Andrew Johnson brought in the telegraph (Lincoln made do with walking over to the War Department) and Hayes brought telephones to the White House. And Benjamin Harrison was afraid to turn on the lights because of the potential for electric shocks so the servants did it for him.

  13. It isn’t like he has anything more important to do. Except maybe Golf. According to Josh Earnest, Obama’s overall strategy is very successful.

This president has clearly shamed the office of the presidency and clearly does not respect the position it is,nor the people that put him there. However, the position itself – apart from the current holder – is still the highest position in the land, and one of the most powerful. It’s not chump change.

  18. Dana, there are many concepts of FREEDOM that LIBTARDS cannot grasp. We are in a new world. Our institutions and our PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM has been taken over by HARD LEFTARDS. The STEPFORD KIDS don’t KNOW that they have been PROPAGANDIZED. I thought LIBS loved…”the children”.

President Mean Girl still has, what, 19 months to work on it.

    Steve57 (fb1453)

  20. Capehart must have missed O’Dimwits own words. “I have a pen and a phone and a Twitter account”
It’s silly. Obama is a HARD CORE (no, not CORPS nor CORPSE) Marxist hack. HERE’S THE DEAL. Our LEFTIST/LIBTARD Brethren, do not see OBAMA’S criminal behavior as “in anyway wrong”. They do NOT respect our CONSTITUTION, they are fools. But the love themselves some OBAMA.

    Gus (7cc192)

  21. Steve57, what we have here….is a failure to communicate. Libtards, Democrats, Progressives, Obamites, RINOS, et al, SIMPLY DO NOT RESPECT nor BELIEVE in the CONSTITUTION. Steve, those who oppose us and whom we ABSOLUTELY disagree, DO NOT RESPECT the CONSTITUTION, the LAW nor the fair play, that WE adhere to. Paging Dr Alynski. Dr Alynski to the RED house phone!!

    Gus (7cc192)

  22. I don’t mean to disappoint anyone but Obama on the Twitter matters as much as the media wondering why Judge Crater is still missing.

    Ag80 (eb6ffa)

  23. Ag80,

Google “President Obama Twitter” and 235,000,000 results come up. Clearly, it is *supposed* to matter to us… and the president likes the distraction from Ramadi, Iran, trade agreement, etc., etc., etc…

    IOW, bright shiny object.

But I am interested in how easily the lefty journalists are willing to surrender the 1st Amendment because hurt feelings and hatred.

    Dana (86e864)

  24. Dana,

Haranguing the neighborhood kids instills respect for authority and property rights. Young Barry could have used more of that. Keep it up.

By the way, I just Googled “President Obama Twit” and just 515,000 results came up. Why Google the obvious, I suppose?

  25. Obola gets all the respect from me he earns…

    none.

as for them taking my info, i’ve already been audited by both the IRS and the CA FTB, as well as having my initial VA claim denied without a formal response.

this was after i signed a petition at whitehouse.gov

short of droning me, or kicking in my front door and shooting me in a trumped up no knoeck raid, what threats do they have left?

    redc1c4 (589173)

  26. as for respecting the office, that’s like the BS i was told about “respecting the rank” in the Army.

you can buy rank at the PX, and, as for getting promoted, i saw more people F-up/move up than i ever did get promoted for competence & achievement. Barry the Dimwitted is in the first group, not the 2nd.

    redc1c4 (589173)

  27. Perhaps the bad-mouthing twitterexpect to escape serious attention because there areso maly of them.

  28. 27. …you can buy rank at the PX…

    redc1c4 (589173) — 5/20/2015 @ 11:23 pm

Yes. You can also buy lots of ribbons to dress up your uniform, also jump wings and maybe a SEAL Trident. But if that’s how you make rank you will also buy yurself a court martial and a trip to Leavenworth.

    Steve57 (fb1453)

  29. I don’t believe in “respecting the office”. It smacks of monarchism. The president, no matter who he or she is, is just a public servant, and inherently deserves no more respect than any librarian or DMV clerk. Of course anyone who serves the public well and faithfully deserves our thanks and respect for that, just like anyone else who gives us good service. And the occupant of any office, from president to garbologist, may happen to be a good and decent person who deserves respect. But there’s nothing inherent in holding a particular office that makes one deserve resepect. George W Bush deserves respect, not because he was president, but because he’s a good person; Mitt Romney was never president, but deserves the same respect because he’s also a good person. 0bama is not a respectable person, and no office can change that.

    Milhouse (bdebad)

  30. I don’t believe in “respecting the rank” either, unless you are in that service. You have to show respect to your superior officers, for the same reason that anyone has to show respect to their boss; not doing so makes it difficult to take their orders. But I see no reason to respect someone who is in no position to give you orders, and is not likely to be, just because he gives many other people orders. Since I don’t work for Donald Trump, I don’t need to respect him. And since I’m not in the army, I don’t need to respect any generals.

    Milhouse (bdebad)

  31. You have to respect the rank, Milhouse, but for a very different reason than you have to respect your boss.

  32. There has been no one since R.R. in the white house that I have respected. They all sucked.
Both arms up with waving hands. 2-votes.

  33. I’ve never believed someone needs to “earn my respect”. I was taught to respect everybody from the street sweeper to the President. That is my starting point however, one can lose my respect. The street sweeper hasn’t.

    Hoagie (f4eb27)

  34. I also believe in respecting the rank, Milhouse. Because more often than not the rank requires achievement, commitment, ambition, dedication and a boat load of hard work to achieve. So to be respecting the rank is honoring the person who achieved it.

Everyone starts out deserving respect until they prove they don’t.

    Hoagie (f4eb27)

  35. I firmly believe that Twiter is for twits and Obama has just reinforced that belief.

    Bar Sinister (b48c12)

  36. Respecting the “office” does not, by default, mean that the person elected to the office deserves the same respect. That is earned (or not) by the sitting president. The “office” itself is just that and I believe to be held in regard. This president and the office are two related but separate matters.

    Dana (86e864)

  37. Greetings:

Back in my high school days in the Bronx of the early (more rational) ’60s, there was a guy who was thought to be “too full of himself” as was said in the local vernacular. When he would begin to practice his art, we would begin to sing and/or hum along…

    And I say to myself,
    I’m wonderful, wonderful,
    Oh so wonderful am I.

Catholic schools are not always 100% Catholic.

  38. Thanks, Milhouse. I’ve heard the “respect the office” argument before and it didn’t sound right to me, but I never bothered to think it through. You are absolutely correct.
