Arrest in Cantor Death Threat (Updated)

Filed under: Politics — DRJ @ 1:50 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

The Huffington Post reports the arrest of a Pennsylvania man accused of threatening the lives of Rep. Eric Cantor and his family … on YouTube:

“Norman Leboon, the man now charged with threatening to kill Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) was arrested over the weekend, according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia Monday.

Leboon made the threat in a YouTube video in which he leveled a variety of offensive and incendiary statements at Cantor and his family.

“My Congressman Eric Cantor, and you and your cupcake evil wife,” Leboon said in the video, according to an affidavit. “Remember Eric…our judgment time, the final Yom Kippur has been given. You are a liar, you’re a Lucifer.”

If convicted, Leboon faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

It appears that Leboon has also been involved in a lawsuit against Verizon regarding their alleged complicity in surveillance of US citizens and has been an active uploader of inflammatory and often anti-semitic videos.”

Posting a death threat on YouTube isn’t that bright. RTT News describes more of its contents:

“In the video, Leboon called Cantor a “liar” and made reference to a bullet found in Cantor’s office last week, saying, “You receive my bullets in your office, remember they will be placed in your heads. You and your children are Lucifer’s abomination.”

He also threatened to kill Cantor’s “cupcake evil wife.”

Though neither Cantor or his family were harmed, the Justice Department said the threat itself was serious enough.”

“Cupcake evil wife”?

  1. The Democrats are stirring up the loons in their party while the Republican activists are trying to do CPR on clueless Republican Congress critters. At least they all stuck together until the vote. Now they have to say something intelligent about what we do next. So far that has not been going too well. The tea parties are showing the way. The Democrats are terrified of citizens who have figured out what is going on.

  5. I posted on the other thread at #41 where this was mentioned in a post from elissa.

41….Thanks elissa for the link, here is one sentence from the FBI affadavit:

LEBOON further stated that he is the “son of the god of Enoch” and that his father speaks through him,

FYI: “Enoch” is a figure in Genesis in a small passage and mentioned in another small passage in the NT. The OT states, “Enoch walked with God, and was no more, because God took him”. In other words, Enoch was thought to have been translated into heaven without dieing, as was also the more familiar character Elijah.

in other words, this fellow is either a little strange and delusion or a lot of strange and delusional, which would explain his contributions to the Democratic party 😉 .

John Hitchcock went on to comment that in theological terms, Enoch and Elijah are thought (by many, anyway) to be the “two witnesses” in Revelation who are martyred and rise again. (I knew someone else that in his more manic moments off his meds thought he was Elijah)

So, I would use this myself to say that: #1 there are crazy people out there, #2 some of them contribute to dems and threaten conservatives, and #3, to echo the fine point made by “Amused Observer” in the previous thread, if any one wants to look for bona fide political violence they should talk to the one’s friend Bill Ayers.

  7. All right, all you pro-regressives who accused Cantor of overhyping the threats he’s received — let’s see you spin an actual arrest and U.S. Attorney report about an internet threat to Cantor and his family. You know, the kind of thing that we refer to as “hard evidence” of the seriousness of the incident? Cantor — and the rest of America — now has law enforcement credibility that either is missing (conveniently) or just plain doesn’t exist when it comes to Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s claim of being spat upon by a Tea Party protester.

Why is that, lefties? How come there doesn’t seem to be a Capitol Police report about the person who was supposedly briefly detained, handcuffed, but never charged at the request of Cleaver? Why, do you think, would Cleaver choose NOT to press charges against someone who would spit on a Congressman — especially considering that such a cretin remaining on the loose is supposedly the harbinger of a revival of vigilantism? Do you think maybe that might have something to do with the fact that if Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.’s TWO Flip camera videos of the procession were subpoenaed, it would DISPROVE rather than prove the charges of N-word chants and an assault on Cleaver? Or maybe because the Capitol cop personally escorting Cleaver would refuse to corroborate his account under oath? Or maybe because the “spitter” might be able to countersue his false accusers after his acquittal?

Might it be that Cleaver, Jackson Jr., Bawney Fwank, the unassailable John Lewis, Nancy Pelosi, and her oversized gavel fear they would be challenged under oath as to why they would march through thousands of hostile (and allegedly dangerous) protesters rather than do what members of Congress normally do when they want to get from one Capitol Hill building to another: Walk through the underground catacombs? Might they have to admit that they were at the least tempting fate, and at the most, hoping for an incident to dovetail with a pre-conceived campaign painting anti-ObamaCare people as bigots?

I await your honest answers. Let’s see how many I get.

I said I would think twice about saying it. I didn’t say I wouldn’t think it. But after a weekend of specious propaganda pounded into the public consciousness like an anvil, from the moment I heard the militia report on the radio this morning (pushing the Moscow attacks off the top of the news), I was ready to say it.

Not a legal eagle by any means, but my experience was that we could cuff somebody to restrain them for safety reasons (ours, theirs, bystanders) without taking them into custody or having to generate any kind of report.

I’m sure that probably varies by jurisdiction.

  42. You mean like no video? There was a video on huffpo.
    Comment by imdw — 3/29/2010 @ 6:42 pm

imdw, I watched the video 4x. It did not confirm that Mr. Cleaver was spit on. Obviously as the Congressman walked closely by the 4 men at the railing, they were all clearly hollering – loudly, with hands cupped. There is a reasonable possibility that while hollering they may have unintentionally expectorated a bit but there is no physical action that indicated willful spitting.

Another thing to note is that the police officer was right next to the Congressman and she appeared to have no reaction to the men hollering at Cleaver. If there had been intentional spitting, one can be assured a police officer, less than a foot away, would have intervened.

    So what was your point?

  43. “So what was your point?”

All I said was there was video at huffpo.

    ===

And Cantor has had a bullseye on him for quite a while now. It’s amazing that the left is so flagrantly attempting to goad the right into a reaction. It’s boiling over, and yeah, it’s a pretty good distraction to the health care fiasco… but it can’t help Obama very much. Short term solution. A lot of people are just waiting until 2014 when costs skyrocket and fines kick in for poor folk. Everyone knows someone who decided they didn’t want health insurance because of the expense.

All this frothing at the right will obviously lead to some ugly idiot doing something ugly, but it won’t get anyone but hardened liberals to vote for democrats.

It may be his dad who is the Obama supporter.

Uh, I don’t think so. And even if that were the case, I can easily imagine a flaky leftwing parent breeding an extremely flaky uber-leftwing offspring.

    opensecrets.org:

A man accused of threatening to kill House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) appears to have twice donated money to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, the Center for Responsive Politics’ research indicates.

Federal records indicate a Norman Leboon Sr. of Philadelphia donated $255 to Obama’s campaign on June 20, 2008, followed the next day by a $250 donation. They are the only federal-level donations made by a person with the surname “Leboon” on record.

FBI officials on Saturday arrested Leboon at 1653 Benner St. in Philadelphia — the same address listed in conjunction with the two donations. Campaign finance disclosure documents list Leboon’s occupation as “disabled/retired.”

Leboon refers to himself in numerous videos posted on the Internet as “Norman Leboon Sr.”

Even though Leboon uses the suffix of “Sr” in his name — and does he try to scam the system by masquerading an a senior citizen/retiree? — he appears young enough that the following is an appropriate and fitting testimonial in his behalf…

    Reason.com:

The people who give the least are the young, especially young liberals. [Arthur C.] Brooks [Public Policy Professor at Syracuse University] writes that “young liberals — perhaps the most vocally dissatisfied political constituency in America today — are one of the least generous demographic groups out there….In 2002, they were 12 percent less likely to give money to charities, and one-third less likely to give blood.”

He writes that young liberals are less likely to do nice things for their nearest and dearest, too. Compared with young conservatives, “a lower percentage said they would prefer to suffer than let a loved one suffer, that they are not happy unless the loved one is happy, or that they would sacrifice their own wishes for those they love.”

The are not all responsible or accountable for lone nuts, so when they hold the TEA party or Palin accountable for nuts they are being dishonest and unfair.

No one is saying the Cantor threat is a bigger story than other terrorist threats. But you take the straw man even farther than that… apparently, if people don’t pick your answer, they are trolls. And they must answer, because you brought it up a bunch of times?
