Beldar on the Bush Doctrine

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:23 pm

Blogging at Hugh Hewitt’s site, Beldar says that there is no single meaning of the Bush Doctrine. I agree, and find this yet another failed attempt at a “gotcha” by Gibson.

By the way, it’s great to see Beldar getting a guest-blogging spot at Hewitt’s site. I think it’s OK for me to reveal that I knew Beldar had been offered the spot, and strongly encouraged him to accept. It’s a great move that will elevate his profile, and I know he will do a great job, as he always does.

  1. The lefty blogs, of course, have pounced on the “gotcha” moment. Never mind that if you search back 5 or 6 years (hell! maybe last month) you will most certainly find the same bloggers professing, “nobody understands the so-called Bush Doctrine”.

  2. I think we should get some royalties from the salary that Hewitt is paying him if he’s going to steal our best stuff.

  4. Congratulations to Beldar and to Hugh Hewitt for being smart enough to choose him.

  5. Congratulations to Beldar.
However, this is a case where being confined to the dextrosphere makes your arguments worthless.

The Bush Doctrine has, in the popular mind, a specific meaning–not a 31 page official policy document, not necessarily even something that Bush or any other member of his administration has said–and when people in the sinistrosphere or the MSM talk about the Bush doctrine they have that meaning in mind–call it the the Bush Doctrine de vulgaro: the United States can and will attack pre-emptively as and when it sees fit, even if the threat is not immediate or the threat is not proven.

That said, Palin’s answer was completely appropriate. “Excuse me, Mr. Gibson, which Bush doctrine do you mean? The caricature people have heard of in the news or the real one put forth as government policy?”

  6. The Bush doctrine is clear and I dont see why people cant follow it.. Lie your way into a phony war for non existent reasons, dress up like Roger Ramjet to make yourself a military hero, stick future generations with the bill for your war, question the patriotism of anyone not stupid enough to see through your bullshit and laugh at those that cant! I dont see why she could not answer that as its plain enough.

  8. Here is the real Bush doctrine

“Naturally the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

  16. Clearly, Patterico, she knew EXACTLY what was meant by the Bush doctrine and gave a brilliant answer – an answer befitting a candidate for vice-president of the United States.

At what point in this campaign did you wingnuts take the mirrors down in your houses? I can’t imagine you being able to look at yourselves while you’re in such a frenzied state of hypocrisy and value betrayal.

I’m thinking that maybe Bush should take advantage of your collective amnesia and try to appoint Harriet Myers to the Supreme Court again.

  22. Hey, VietEraVet. Why do you use a phony e-mail link ? I suspect you are a pimply faced twerp sitting at his parents computer pretending like hell.

    You know all about it.
