Live Feed of the Phil Spector trial available on LAT website

I may be coming late to the party here, but I just found that the LAT has a link to Channel 5’s live streaming video from the Phil Spector trial. Today they have one of the women from his past who claims that Spector threatened her with a gun.
In the little bit that I have followed over the last couple hours, I must say — and I recommend anyone with an interest to take a look — that the Judge on this case is EXCELLENT. I’d be curious to know what Patterico’s view of this guy is, and what is reputation is in the DA’s office.
If all you know about Superior Court Judges in California is what you saw from Lance Ito, I urge you to take a look.

I do a lot of work in front of Judge Fidler (as a DA) He’s excellent. He knows the law, and more importantly, he is in firm control of his courtroom. I think he’s one of the best judges in that building.

It is much more thorough than the CourtTV coverage. I understand CourtTV needing to break away for long commercial segments and commentary, but it appears to me that in the afternoons, they merely repeat the coverage from the morning (and past days) rather than providing the live testimony.

He is a truly unbiased judge (again, just my opinion). He doesn’t play favorites and calls ’em like he sees him — holding everyone to the same standard. As seen during the late hours of today’s trial, he is not one to put up with much crap. He has a very dry sense of humor and is quick to get upset with any lawyer who steps out of line. He lets you know where you stand very quickly. I was glad to hear he had this one, just so I could watch him slap Cutler around. I knew it would eventually come, but not so soon.

Cutler, on the other hand, was a complete bully, re-victimizing the witness, and thoroughly ticking off everybody in sight. I just noticed that while I was posting, his name lined up with the “buffoons” section of your category list… thoroughly appropriate. I think it’s only a matter of time until he irritates Fidler sufficiently that he finds himself sanctioned in a highly unpleasant way.
And, Cutler definitely isn’t helping his client any. If I were sitting on that jury, I’d be tempted to convict Spector solely because he hired that jerk.

My boyfriend says that Spector’s goning to walk because “they ALWAYS let celebrities walk.” I don’t agree. O.J. Simpson was pretty much a blank slate to the public beofre the trial. Spector has had a legendary decades-long career of theatenting people with guns. However he’s going to be nailed for this (degree or murder or maslaughter) one thing is certain. He is a genuine menace to society and needs to be taken off the streets.

I am certain that Mr. Spector already knows he has PD, or some extrapyramidal variant of such (and there are many). If he is not aware of this, he should indeed be evaluated.
Of course, no physician would make a remote diagnosis without the advantage of a complete history and physical, examination, and in certain cases special testing. But PD is probably the easiest of such diagnoses one can make simply by observation, if that is all one has. Mr. Spector has a very characteristic hand tremor. The tremor of PD almost always begins on one side or the other, usually in an upper extremity. However, in this case one cannot tell if it is unilateral because Mr. Spector does what almost all such patients do, and that is to suppress the tremor by clasping his hands. He also appears to have a mild degree of what we call “hypomimea,” or paucity of facial expression, seen in PD. His eyblink frequency is not particularly diminished, as we might expect in a PD patient. One could wax eloquent on this matter for hours, basically writing a chapter on PD and it’s many variants; including syndromes that resemble PD but may be more or less problematic, clinically speaking. I am referring to progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), striatonigral degeneration, olivopontocerebellar degeneration, Shy Drager syndrome, and there are many others. PSP looks like PD in many respects, but is more rapidly progressive, is associated with early dementia, and impairment of verticle eye gaze. Lewy body dementia is a syndrome that can mimic PD but dementia with psychosis plays a prominent part of this condition.
Thus, Dr. Rosenblatt raises a very interesting, and probably correct diagnostic issue. We can and do treat the symptoms of PD every day. The impulsive acts of violence Dr. Rosenblatt refers to are more commonly seen in one of the other variants such as Lewy body dementia; or in later stages of the many extrapyramidal syndromes referred to above. Mr. Spector really appears to exhibit relatively early signs of PD.
And in reality he probably already knows this, and may be under treatment already. It’s hard to imagine that this would be missed, given his notoriety.
