Welcome back and goodbye

Filed under: Media Bias — Charlie (Colorado) @ 9:31 am

Welcome back Patterico, it’s been fun playing here while you were gone.

For my final post, I give you Donald Luskin taking some well placed shots at Daniel Okrent, the Public Editor over at the NYT.

Me, I take the position that Luskin misses the big picture – there’s no way the Times could ever have their Public Editor do what they claim he’s there to do. To the extent you’re interested in this, here’s more.

Thanks again for reading and remember, when Bush ends up losing, I’ll be thinking “I told you so”. If I were feeling petty and small, that is…

  1. And if Bush ends up winning, can we finally call off the frigging suicide watch?

  3. You do all realize, of course, that Mr. Sturm now desperately hopes against hope that Bush loses, so Sturm won’t look the fool.

This is where the mortal sin of despair leads us — into actively hoping, praying, and sometimes working to bring about the very thing we fear, just so we won’t have to suffer the humiliation and indignity of crying out that the sky is falling, only to see a bright and sunny dawn next day.

There is a fuzzy line between predicting disaster — and leading the cheer for it. Somewhen, Steve Sturm passed that line. He now predicts a Bush defeat as a form of defiant iconoclasism; and I would not be surprised if, after the election and Bush’s victory, he rips off the mask and takes the Pat Buchanan route, actively fighting against Bush and the Republicans in some bizarre drama of revenge, blaming them, not himself, for his public humiliation.
