Saturday Night Music

Filed under: Music — Patterico @ 9:16 pm

Parthenon Huxley’s first video from his latest album “Thank You Bethesda.”

Parthenon gave me a guitar lesson a few weeks ago as a reward from the Kickstarter campaign for his album. There’s something else in the works, too, but that’s a secret for now. Enjoy the video.

  2. the “thank you bethesda” song sounds like a sitcom theme song to me, which isn’t bad but it’s kinda ironic how it’s juxtaposed with the showbiz clichĂ©s of…

the “angeleno” song, which is poppy but it doesn’t really go anywhere new

the “luckiest man” song talks about how he’s super lucky and et cetera to have his girlfriend or wife or whatever

then he does a song called “buddha, buddha (with noodles)” where he gets really fancy with his guitar and he throws a lot of production at it and it’s interesting and it’s my favoritest song on the whole cd I think

    plus I really like noodles

he’s such an unabashed hippie though

I’m not like that me personally

after that he sings one of those musician songs about being a musician on the road called “Long Way To Go” – I generally don’t like these sorts of songs (I always skip past “wheels rollin” on Mr. Jason Aldean’s last cd cause it’s the same blah blah blah about being on the road playing musics)

to me that’s just lazy lazy songwriting

then he gets all Lemonheads on us with a lil ditty called Beautiful and he sounds younger when he does this song than on the ones before this one… nice job

then he sings a jaunty tune called “roller coaster” where he uses the idea of a roller coaster as a metaphor for the ups and downs of life – the triteness of this gives me Daria Morgendorffer face and I wanna fast-forward but I don’t

after this he sings a song called “a feeling that won’t fade away” and we’re back in Lemonheadsland again and i’d very much like to smoke some dried ground up marijuana leaves even though i never do that but if I ever do I might would play this song while I did it

then there’s this song we probably just don’t need to talk much about called “love is the greatest thing”

it’s about how love is the greatest thing and whatever but sometimes he wonders whether love is really *actually* the greatest thing but all in all he seems pretty persuaded that love is pretty gosh-darn great

    just make it stop

then we have a nice song called “turn the soil” where turning the soil is a metaphor for how people cope with the ups and downs of life (particularly if there’s no roller coaster handy)

we turn the soil for something over 8 minutes and then we do the “oh yeah” thing – I think by now you’re supposed to be righteously stoned for so you understand this track, which honest to pickles makes absolutely no sense

then we do the buddha buddha thing again and I really love that song so the takeaway for me from this cd is the buddha buddha song and I’m a put that on my playlist and probably the fade away song too

and I’m a mix in some lemonheads

    I’d forgotten about the lemonheads

  3. And you want to secede from a country where Parthenon Huxley gives you guitar lessons. Really, Patterico.

  4. We should make happyfeet reviews of albums a regular thing. That was pretty funny.

Are these all online or did you get the CD?

  5. nk,

I don’t want to secede, living as I do in California. But I want states like Texas to have the right. I think they do.

    But that’s another thread.
