Top IRS Officials Knew in 2011 That Tea Party Groups Were Being Singled Out
And it’s all part of an upcoming report. I guess it’s no longer a surprise why they admitted this.
WASHINGTON — A federal watchdog’s upcoming report says senior Internal Revenue Service officials knew agents were targeting tea party groups in 2011.
The disclosure contradicts public statements by former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman, who repeatedly assured Congress that conservative groups were not targeted.
They managed to keep the most damning facts under wraps until after the election. Kind of like Benghazi.
Always helps to have a lapdog media helping you out.

There seem to be a lot of reporters smelling blood here, and some of them don’t care whose blood it is. Back in the Nixon days, the media wasn’t nearly so liberal and the people taking on Watergate (not just at the WaPo) were risking their careers. I actually expect there to be some real journalism done here. Not as much as if it had been W or course, but perhaps enough.
Kevin M (bf8ad7) — 5/11/2013 @ 7:01 pmWell I guess this administration knows how to distract the media away from the Benghazi cover-up scandal — show they are involved in an even worse scandal.
Watching the tapes of Carney’s grilling by genuinely pissed off media types, you can tell they aren’t buying the latest Benghazi lies. Being led to mislead is an unpardonable sin to journalists. They are cynical now. And they are ready for the first time in 4 and a half years to challenge the fraudulent misrepresentations of an even worse scandal, IRSGate.
Carney’s next few appearances will be great theater.
Corky Boyd (c2186d) — 5/11/2013 @ 8:41 pmIt was about this time in Watergate when someone turned John Dean. I wonder if anyone in the Obama WH is having qualms. Or even someone recently departed, like Geithner. I hope he gets his chance to testify about his support for the IRS.
Kevin M (bf8ad7) — 5/11/2013 @ 8:46 pmThe days of John Dean-type figure are gone and if anyone were inclined to reveal what’s behind the White House curtain, they would save it for the six-figure book deal in 2015 or 2016.

Thanks for the link.
If I was better educated, I could be more specific about the concept of the “order of loves” or priorities, and how messed up things get (logically) when the proper order is not conserved.
So the questionable advance of wind-power which has many substitutes in many places takes priority of preservation of the California Condor. Now I wouldn’t list preservation of the California Condor as close to preservation of the human species (unlike some commenters at the noted link), but you can say NIMBY to giant windmills much easier than you can to California Condor habitat (or people can say NIMBY to windmills easier than Condors can say NIMBY to windmills, if you prefer).
One commenter at the link gives some nice info about the “environmental footprint” of a wind power turbine, pretty impressive in a negative way.
There is one additional minor point, FWIW; apparently some rich people in CA are more tolerable of wind energy than some rich people in the Northeast.

Instead, I wonder if they are so desperate to take Benghazi off the media’s radar (especially after whatever happened at the White House’s off-the-record media briefing) that the Administration was willing to release a damning IRS story in an effort to divert the media. If so, then the Obama Administration is very, very afraid of Benghazi.

So many scandals, what’s an administration to do? Overwhelming everyone with multiple things at the same time hoping it all together turns into background noise certainly would not be beyond them. Whether designed or not, hopefully it will not work.

MD in Philly – Certainly the suppression and intimidation scientific views and data in order to achieve the desired anti-science ends in so many cases in the EPA and Department of Interior has not yet broken through the Democrat/Media protective shield.
daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 5/12/2013 @ 12:03 pmI think this is a pretty good idea. Why should the government pick and choose who gets a tax exemption? I would be fine with no tax exemptions and no tax breaks and the same tax percentage. Of course, such a simple code would take wealth from a lot of tax professionals, lobbyists, and attorneys, so it’s unlikely to happen.
But plainly the IRS cannot be trusted. And the damage is irreversible. That’s what really gets me about Benghazi and this IRS scandal. they both had a real impact on the 2012 election. Now, of course, the victors can let the stories seep out. And it’s not like most voters will hold this against them in 2014.
Dustin (2da3a2) — 5/12/2013 @ 12:06 pmThe IRS pseudo-admission seems to be a half-hearted attempt at damage control, trying to get some of it out there in advance of the Treasury IG report. This is not SOP for Teh One, this is more Clintonian, which suggests to me that there is more there there.
JD (60eb27) — 5/12/2013 @ 12:11 pmMaybe the springing up of actual journalism and whistle-blowers from their midst is forcing some adjustment of tactics,
MD in Philly (3d3f72) — 5/12/2013 @ 12:24 pmbut then again, after propaganda and counter-propaganda, the counter-counter-propaganda and the counter-counter-counter-propaganda makes my brain spin, so maybe I better just say, hmm, I don’t know.
Dustin, on this morning’s talk shows even among the leftist panelists who agreed that perhaps more does need to be known about Benghazi, all saw it now mostly as a situation that has potential to impact Hillary’s 2016 chances. Par for the course Dick Turbin Durbin shamelessly stated the whole hoopla now is just about neutralizing Hillary and called it a witch hunt. He managed to drop Fox into his tirade calling attention to what he alleged was its 24 hour coverage of Benghazi.
I thought the R panelists for the most part argued well that the American people want and deserve to know the unvarnished truth about the lead-up to 9/11 Benghazi, as well as the actions/decision making of officials that night, and the later development of the “talking points” –regardless of where it leads. But not one of them brought up the 2012 election and the impact on the president’s re-election that was accomplished by the WH and media managing to effectively bury the Benghazi story for 8 months.
elissa (cd6b2d) — 5/12/2013 @ 12:36 pmElissa – Durbin is despicable.
JD (60eb27) — 5/12/2013 @ 12:41 pmDurbin blamed Victoria Nuland for editing the talking points.
Sammy Finkelman (6f9f42) — 5/12/2013 @ 1:13 pmSomebody evidentally objected to the summary of events in the initial CIA version of the talking points – maybe Victoria Nuland – because a later
version of the talking points has this sentence, which stayed in till the very end:
In other words, maybe we’ll take a look at the information that comes from Americans present in Libya and in Benghazi on the night of the events, and maybe we’ll take a second look at the Sooper Sekrit intelligence and maybe we’ll revise these conclusions.
This is compromise wording.
Sammy Finkelman (6f9f42) — 5/12/2013 @ 1:15 pmhttp://freebeacon.com/obamas-irs/
Sammy – who does Nuland answer to, and do spokesholes carry authority to make these kinds of decisions?
JD (60eb27) — 5/12/2013 @ 1:19 pmNuland answered to Hillary Clinton and she was apparently taken off the case.
Hillary Clinton gave up the fight once the talking points had in them the idea that current assessment was not permanent.
And she wanted everybody else in the Stgate Department to stop fighting this bureaucratic battle also.
And she also played along with the ongoing condemnation of the video, while at the same time
being very careful not to say that it had anything to do with what happened in Benghazi, or even Cairo. (it was being used as a rallying cry in many other countries after that, particularly in Iran and Pakistan, where there was another sort of apology about the video on Friday, Septmeber 16, 2012.)
There’s no question that that demonstration, In Pakistan, was about the video – and the
question is, why was there such a demonstration?
Anyway, as far as Hillary was concerned, other people would get to say the CIA’s nonsense, but people would not be told this was the final word.
And that was enough.
Everybody else could fall on their sword with all of that for all she cared. Susan Rice? She’s not close to her ever since Susan Rice suported Obama in 2008.
Anybody close to Hillary would have been warned off.

Mr Pink (b8414b) — 5/13/2013 @ 6:17 amGive it a rest.
SPQR (768505) — 5/13/2013 @ 6:52 amWas there a debate, a while back, on what is a troll? Ladies and gentlemen, a perfect specimen, Mr. Pink.
nk (875f57) — 5/13/2013 @ 7:05 amMaine Republican Sen. Susan Collins on Sunday called the IRS activities chilling and said she was disappointed that President Obama had not condemned the actions.
“This is truly outrageous and it contributes to the profound distrust that the American people have in government,” Collins told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “It is absolutely chilling that the IRS was singling out conservative groups for extra review. And I think that it’s very disappointing that the president hasn’t personally condemned this.”
elissa (982c21) — 5/13/2013 @ 7:19 amTroll no, broken record yeah I’ll own that.
Mr Pink (08de5f) — 5/13/2013 @ 7:28 amThat’s a troll.
SPQR (768505) — 5/13/2013 @ 7:37 amWas there a debate, a while back, on what is a troll?.
If you’re referring to post #95, I actually take that as a case of someone being very sarcastic. LOL to me if I’m misinterpreting what actually is an absurdly naive and willfully blind comment. Or an inability to recognize what, in fact, is a variation of: “Well, [insert name of horrible, infamous leader here] at least kept the trains running on time!”
Mar (9ba6f2) — 5/13/2013 @ 7:51 amMar, you’ve missed context. Which I’m not going to supply for the troll.
SPQR (768505) — 5/13/2013 @ 7:55 amMr. “one note” Pink is well known to the readers of this site and the owner of this site. Nuff said.
elissa (b5a0c8) — 5/13/2013 @ 7:55 amit’s very disappointing that the president hasn’t personally condemned this.”
Well, duh, Susan Collins.
Knowing what makes Obama tick, he either blatantly supported, if not trickily initiated, such Chicago-type of corruption of the IRS, or was a cheerleader in the background, doing a raised-fist salute for such tactics.
Mark (9ba6f2) — 5/13/2013 @ 7:56 am101. Mar? er, Mark? Is that you? It’s kinda like your writing style so I guessed maybe you mis-typed your handle.
elissa (b5a0c8) — 5/13/2013 @ 8:01 amyou’ve missed context
If Obama were a mainstream liberal, without all the sordid, flaky, extremist details of his life history, I’d take the comment of Mr. Pink at face value. I wouldn’t immediately interpret it as humor, as an instance of someone being sarcastic, if Obama were similar to one of his predecessors, even the very liberal Jimmy Carter or, less so, Bill Clinton.
Mark (9ba6f2) — 5/13/2013 @ 8:04 am101. Mar? er, Mark?
I just notice I fat fingered that post! LOL.
Mark (9ba6f2) — 5/13/2013 @ 8:06 amMr. Pink is harping and reprising a serious yet off-base claim. SPQR’s response I think is the best possible, for all of us.

daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 5/13/2013 @ 9:24 amI wonder what would happen if these “low level employees” were charged with crimes and faced prison terms. Would they go quietly? It was just such a question, when Judge Sirica started to sentence the Watergate burglars to long prison terms, that broke the Watergate scandal wide open.

Mr Pink (08de5f) — 5/13/2013 @ 10:43 amThe headline should be updated – this was known within the IRS in 2010

I wouldn’t call it off base, especially since as far as I know it’s never been recanted. But yeah I will admit I come across as a dick bringing it up again and again until the regulars of this site automatically think I’m trolling.

Mr. Pink – Periodically repeating the same phrase from your misguided conclusion about an intentionally misinterpreted four and a half year old post says more about your limited mental abilities than anything else. Carry on.
daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 5/13/2013 @ 11:04 amYou are a troll.

^ how the fck am I taking that out of context? Oh sorry that doesn’t mean what it says.
Mr Pink (08de5f) — 5/13/2013 @ 11:20 amObama is a patriot. A fundamentally good man.
If you guys want to keep defending that crap go ahead obviously nothing I can say will dissuade you.

happyfeet (c60db2) — 5/13/2013 @ 11:53 amI point out things I disagree with and I’m a troll.
Daleyrocks says I like dick flavored popsicles and he’s a regular.
Holy fcking double standard.
Mr Pink (08de5f) — 5/13/2013 @ 12:07 pmyou just tell Mr. daley wrong you are my favorite one is actually the sour patch kids cherry flavor one and watch him backpedal
happyfeet (c60db2) — 5/13/2013 @ 12:17 pmNah I like vanilla. He obviously likes his when they taste like patterico’s ballsack.
Mr Pink (08de5f) — 5/13/2013 @ 12:21 pmwell there’s no way I can see to square your obvious preference for vanilla popsicles with Mr. daley’s baseless assertion that you like dick ones
advantage: Mr. Pink

if you think about it a swastika looks kinda like a windmill
I seriously doubt this is a coincidence
happyfeet (c60db2) — 5/13/2013 @ 12:55 pmLots and lots of nice smaller birds, too, are dropping like stones in the mega midwest windfarms where short non-lethal corn and beans used to grow. It’s surprising how little one hears about this, no? It’s almost as if the greens don’t want people to know about this gross insult being perpetrated against the natural world or something.
elissa (b5a0c8) — 5/13/2013 @ 1:04 pm“Nah I like vanilla.”
Racist
daleyrocks (bf33e9) — 5/13/2013 @ 1:12 pm“I point out things I disagree with and I’m a troll.”
Of course not. It is very courageous to disagree and obsess over something said to an 8 year-old child four and a half years ago.
Dude, you win teh internetz!
