Treacher: Top 10 Reasons President Barack H. Obama Is Nothing Like Travis the Chimp
Jim Treacher gives his Top 10 Reasons President Barack H. Obama Is Nothing Like Travis the Chimp. I’ll just give you one and make you click for the rest:
5. Obama takes more long-term approach to destroying people’s lives.
I think it’s time this country had an honest conversation about what a racist Jim Treacher is.

I denounce both Jim, you and myself.

They had one of those conversations about race the other day.
An Oklahoma City police officer wrongly pulled over a man last week and confiscated an anti-President Barack Obama sign the man had on his vehicle.
The officer misinterpreted the sign as threatening, said Capt. Steve McCool, of the Oklahoma City Police Department, and took the sign, which read “Abort Obama, not the unborn.”
Chip Harrison said he was driving to work when a police car followed him for several miles and then signaled for him to pull over.
I think the risk of aborting Obama is over but you can’t be too careful.

Oh, y’all are just so denounced! Anyone who ever referred to a President of the United States in terms that could ever, even remotely, compare him to a chimpanzee must be a total racist!
Comment by Chimpy McHalliburton BushCo — 2/19/2009 @ 7:48 am
I hate to be a wet blanket, and I understand the lighthearted nature of this and Jim’s posts, and I accept the license taken by the political cartoon, and I acknowledge the insanity of the racist accusations associated with it that have invited this sarcasm, and I bridle at the attitude that The One must not be criticized;
But a woman was horribly mauled in Connecticut. The chimp is not funny. Not for me, not at all.
There, I said it and I’m not sorry.
Comment by Amphipolis — 2/19/2009 @ 7:53 am
Treach – I laughed. I cried. I denounce you. And myself. And anyone so goddam dumb that does not know that Pelosi/Reid wrote the “stimulus”. Allegedly.
Comment by JD — 2/19/2009 @ 7:57 am
This conversation doesn’t help my kids.
Comment by carlitos — 2/19/2009 @ 7:58 am
I feel the same way as Amphipolis. The mauling was a tragedy, and inappropriate for the cartoon.
I don’t think it was racist — just in bad taste.
Comment by Bradley J. Fikes, C.O.R. — 2/19/2009 @ 8:22 am
Bradley, that is a terrible pun. I denounce you.
Comment by Mike K — 2/19/2009 @ 8:37 am
I’m as racist as the next person, but the cartoon sucked totally. And Jim’s post is not funny. Sorry, Jim.
Let me explain. People who do give a shit about animals, know the difference between wild animals and domesticated animals and pet animals. All three different kinds. Now, Travis was a wild animal. You can take the chimp out of the jungle but you cannot take the jungle out of the chimp.
And for the racist connotation, just substitute one word in the last sentence above.
Comment by nk — 2/19/2009 @ 8:52 am
Travis performed like a Chicago pro. He should be Junior’s cabinet. Except he’s dead.
Comment by Vermont Neighbor — 2/19/2009 @ 9:04 am
P.S. There might be four different kinds. Pigs are not wild, domesticated or pets but they are a staple food.
Comment by nk — 2/19/2009 @ 9:11 am
11. Travis takes Xanax. Baracky induces the need in others to do so.
Comment by JD — 2/19/2009 @ 9:18 am
I could no more denounce that cartoon than I could my spiritual mentor Jeremiah Wright, or my benefactor, Tony Rezko or my pal Father Pfleger or my typical white woman Grandmama or my friend Rod Blagojevich or my Treasury Secretary Tim “light fingers” Geithner or……..

u have to call a spade a spade no mater what office he holds not to mention elected officals are not ranked very high in our society
Comment by dennis r meridith — 2/19/2009 @ 3:18 pm
Uh, thanks dennis. Obama is ranked pretty high though, ya know?
Comment by carlitos — 2/19/2009 @ 3:25 pm
Funny “reasons”, enjoyed reading them… but the chimp analogy is going to ignite a firestorm in the US like the Danish Mohammed cartoons did in Europe.
Comment by Mark Turner — 2/19/2009 @ 3:45 pm
Obama’s approval ratings are impressive — but most presidents (including Bush, Clinton) have high ratings in their first few months. I attribute Obama’s more to his personal charisma than political agenda or demonstrated performance.
Comment by Mark Turner — 2/19/2009 @ 3:47 pm
Travis the Chimp: not funny.
Here is something that is funny (although I think I heard something inappropriate at the end of the news report):

Fair and balanced?
Comment by Eric Blair — 2/19/2009 @ 4:14 pm
I think the implication of the cartoon is really that a chimp could have come up with a better “stimulus” package than congress did. Although, I agree it was probably imprudent to use that analogy given the racial sensitivities in the US today.
Comment by Mark Turner — 2/19/2009 @ 4:31 pm
I think people are taking this cartoon thing to far GIVE ME A BREAK!!! If that’s the case all of us should be MAD AS HELL because there are alot of people who think the “ENTIRE” human race comes from monkeys. There is more important things to be concerned about!!!! GET A LIFE and get out there and do Gods work instead of the “devils”!!!!!!

I’m thinking that the new visitors today are taking multiple forms, and I mean that they seem to be doing impersonations of certain types of posters. Someone may want to compare IPs here or there if this idea interests them…

I can’t speak for anyone else here, but I’m posting from Singapore. I’m a US citizen, born in raised in the US, in case you are wondering.

Why Obama is like Travis the Chimp: They are both the ojects of a paraphilia.

No, not at all. Love the chili crab!

Mark, there is not much concrete difference between you and Al Sharpton. The reason why we’re in the fix we are with respect ro race is precisely because everyone allows themselves to be cowed by the racial hucksters.
At a some point the blame for this starts to lie more with the “everyone” than with the racial hucksters. They’re just doing what they can get away with. What’s eveyone elses excuse?
Comment by Subotai — 2/19/2009 @ 4:53 pm
“Mark, there is not much concrete difference between you and Al Sharpton”
Subotai – Actually, I believe there to be a major difference. Sharpton and his ilk would openly complain that the cartoon IS racist, in the style of a demagogue, to create public attention for themselves and their cause. All I am personally saying is that the “chimp” symbolism is imprudent in that it may be patently offensive to some people in the US — particularly the likes of Sharpton and company. Just as the Danish Mohammed cartoons in Europe caused an unexpected and unintended uproar over ethnicity, so is this cartoon doing so in the US.
Comment by Mark Turner — 2/19/2009 @ 5:02 pm
Maybe the cartoonist is trying to have a “frank” conversation about race.
Comment by Patricia — 2/19/2009 @ 7:05 pm
>But a woman was horribly mauled in Connecticut. The chimp is not funny
Yeah, it is. I love it (in a grim, black humor kind of way [is 'black humor' racist?])when treating animals as though they were human backfires.

I want a new car, a new house, free health care and respect. I don’t want to pay taxes or insurance on my guns……….Gimme ‘change’….

Okay, how about New Hampshire?
BTW, you might want to stay away from the Darwin Awards.
Comment by Jim Treacher — 2/20/2009 @ 8:03 am
An important part of proving that the opposition are racists is of course faking the evidence.
Comment by SPQR — 2/20/2009 @ 8:29 am
That is a good catch, SPQR. I watched the video yesterday and thought I heard that last bit, but was not sure.
We have here a case of “metanarrative.” If the Left thinks the Right would say such things, then such propaganda is no big deal.
It never occurs to them that accepting such fakery makes it easier for their own opponents to do the same to then.
All journalists—internet or otherwise—should vigorously oppose that kind of propagandizing. It’s about more than partisanship.
