Charming and smart! If SNL were this good all the time, I might actually consider staying up late to watch it. It’s been a lot of years though…
Dana (1e5ad4) — 5/9/2010 @ 5:56 pmI gave up on SNL decades ago. The writing has generally been poor, and the quality of the performers has steadily declined–have they had any one really funny since Dana Carvey?
Where SNL has ALWAYS been awful, going back to it’s mid-1970s debut, is the opening monologue. Awkward, stupid, let’s-hope-the-rest-of-the-show-is-better-than-this-crap.
But White’s monologue last night was well written, and expertly delivered. I laughed from beginning to end. Well done!
RB (bed771) — 5/9/2010 @ 6:06 pmNow that’s class. She’s showbiz through and through – not hollywood at all.
Jeff Weimer (952d52) — 5/9/2010 @ 6:40 pmYeah, that was good.
nk (db4a41) — 5/9/2010 @ 6:48 pmOne of their better broadcasts in a season of decidely lackluster and unmemorable programming. Good overnights should telegraph a clear message to Michaels and NBC— Better hosts pitching comedy, not other projects they’re in and above all, new writers.
DCSCA (9d1bb3) — 5/9/2010 @ 7:54 pmA class act. How can anyone not like her?
And speaking of talent, Lena Horne died today.
Icy Texan (15edd3) — 5/10/2010 @ 2:13 amThis was the first SNL episode I had watched in nearly 10 years. Best part was her as McGruber’s grandmother.
She can thank that Comedy Central roast of Shatner for her renewed popularity. Her potty mouth shocked even me, and it probably got the attention of the younger crowd.
East Coast Chris (ded5f2) — 5/10/2010 @ 8:07 amSociety loves an irascible old coot.
Just think of Ruth Gordon in “Harold and Maude“.
Works for guys, too, but women in particular.
