He’s walked it quite a bit for someone his age, he’s been in Congress since his middle 20’s (I believe), and you can watch him completely flummox Rangel on the healthcare committee a few months ago on C – Span. He’s the one who presented the Rube Goldberg – like map of what the Dem’s plan would look like if enacted. A thing of beauty, it was.

  7. I have no idea if Ryan has released his college transcripts.

    But watching Ryan school Obama today I can understand why Obama has refused to release his. It’s the only thing keeping alive the belief that he is the smartest president ever.

  9. That is an excellent clip. Judging by the amount of blinking going on and his silence, it slowly dawned on the president that he has a formidable opponent in Rep. Ryan.

    I’d prefer if they see it as the mainstream GOP opinion, not a part of its radical fringe. But I don’t know if John Boehner will listen to me on that. In the spirit of negotiation, I’d say we should trade — allow an up or down vote on the Ryan plan and one on the Dem plan. Would you take that?

    Our President could stand to watch it, and pay particular attention to the classroom scene where an immigrant is asked to describe what kind of country the United States is.

  17. There is a wonderful visual contrast between the man with his head resting on his hand two away from Ryan, who is obviously following what Ryan is saying with interest, and our President, whose eyebliks are tryig to signal intense distress …

    Around 2:08 into the video, see where Obama’s fingers are – and which one is extended, straight, in what might perhaps just could be one of Obama’s preferred salutes – and, again, the man two away from Ryan has adjusted his hand supporting his head, yet without the middle finger being the extended one …

    As they said on Powerlineblog – “Classy !”

    Paul Ryan really is impressive, and he was clearly getting under Obama’s skin. We need to have some kind of award for people who manage to get the Won’s Hillary Finger.

    I thought the way he told John “we’re not campaigning” was pathetic too. For one thing, America is in an election year and John is actually campaigning, but also, the idea that it’s no longer time to worry about Obama’s campaign promises, or present 100% of our side of the argument, because the campaign is over, is just weak. Mccain was actually pretty good today, too. I guess Obama’s really gotten under Mccain’s skin. I wish he was always like this.

  19. I see what you’re looking at, Alasdair, but the evidence is not clear here as it was in other occasions. For your evidence to be clear in this case, a view of a retracted index finger would be needed. It is very possible the index finger was not retracted, but it’s also possible it was. So I’ll give the puppet of TOTUS a break on this one.

  20. Unless O’Keefe err CSPAN can show us unedited video that Obama’s index finger is also extended, I am going to assert that it was withdrawn.

    Honestly, it’s just funny looking at Obama’s face. He’s really not taking it in stride like W did (W took things too much in stride sometimes). HE’s really really annoyed that people are calling him out.

    I suspect his oval office is one big pep rally.

  21. Dustin, you should know by now that I’ll hang BHO for everything I can. Absolutely everything I can. But integrity prevents me from hanging him for this because people are assuming facts not in evidence. I don’t know how many times I’ve rested my chin in my hand with the first two fingers extended. It’s a comfort thing.

    And, no, I’m not saying BHO doesn’t use the thinly-veiled Jr High stunt with his middle finger. I’m just saying there is not enough evidence to say he did this time.

    Hang him for stuff that is provable, and there’s a lot of that. Don’t hang him for stuff that cannot be shown by a preponderance of evidence.

  22. Yeah, I know. And I guess you have a good point. I see middle finger, because he’s done that before and this was a high annoyance time for him.

    But it’s quite possibly not and I don’t really think it’s that significant. As you note, there are other examples and more people just didn’t pay it any mind then either.

    I don’t mean to hang him for this. I wish this were all I had to worry about wish Obama.

  25. Foe years I tried to explain my point of view to my husband about a variety of things. When he did not seem to understand, based on his actions, I would try a different approach, different words….still not the reaction I anticipated. Finally someone pointed out to me that he just didn’t want to hear or do what I was saying. This is the same thing. No matter what the voters say, the dems are going for the brass ring on this carnival ride. It will assure them years of power and wealth….do you think a little thing like the survival of the USA would be considered?

  36. Not one of the Republicans called them on it, SteveG. Not one. And his little policy by anecdote moment shows how little he actually knows about this. Ironically, it was a conscious choice that he made that led him to not have Comp/Coll coverage. Nobody made him pick the state minimum policy. He chose it.
