August 26

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:33 pm

That’s when I expect to be back posting at full strength.

Whatever that means.

Maybe I should have mentioned it before. Anyway, thanks to JD for keeping things running while I take a little break from regular blogging.

  3. There is a free newspaper in Brooklyn, that went on hiatus for four weeks, without telling anyone.

Did they get it from their readers!

The publisher wrote people said “How can you do this to us?” How could they get along without it? Some people were furious because they had been searching all over for it.

  5. No disrespect intended to JD, DRJ, and the others who have gallantly filled in for Patterico, but I do suffer his absence. Take care of yourself, sir.

  6. That’s true, you can tell very much Patterico is missing.

  7. Yes, we need an analysis of today’s LA Times story charging California of being extremely conservative by having so few eligible people get on SNAP, i.e. food stamps.

To get there, the paper says there is a giant pool of eligible people.

I know it may be counter intuitive but maybe Californian’s are too proud to go on the dole. Nah.

today’s LA Times story charging California of being extremely conservative by having so few eligible people get on SNAP, i.e. food stamps.

Every state has that all the time. Does the article say that California has a higher percentage of eligible people who don’t get food stamps?

It would help to look at exactly what the arficle says but two explanatiuons that occur to me are:

    1) The statistics are faulty – maybe they are not factoring in that some people are not eligible for food stamps because of citizenship, or the statistics for income are off.

    2) More poor people in California do not live in urban areas than in some other blue states.

To get there, the paper says there is a giant pool of eligible people.

No question, but California has more?

Another possibility is that perhaps Californa is not conducting outreach.

I know it may be counter intuitive but maybe Californian’s are too proud to go on the dole. Nah.

Not that. They may not need it. For any program to work more have got to eligible than actual;y ned it.

Anyway, PObamacare if it works, will take care of thatause it will have a lot of people applying for Medicaid, and once they get medicaid they’ll get food stamps. Medical is the gateway for entry into the welfare system.

  9. As much as I like and appreciate all the guest posters Patterivo has had thru the years, there’s no one like Patterico. He has a very distinctive blogging voice and outlook.

  10. I think Patterico is living it at up on the taxpayer’s dime at Martha’s Vineyard. Or something.

  11. DRJ, I think the comment thread at Patterico’s post “Which Country Has the Most Stable Government in Modern History” goes a long way to prove your point right now, but I always thought you were awesome too.
