America’s Drill Instructor: Where is Your Honor, Dirtbag? This Administration is a Disgrace!

Filed under: General — Aaron Worthing @ 5:32 pm

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here.]

You all know and love R. Lee Ermey for his iconic role as the Drill Sergeant Instructor in Full Metal Jacket.  In real life he was, pretty much the drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket—that is a real D.I. in the Marines.  And as much as you liked him before, you will probably love him even more when you see him go full metal Glenn Beck in this video clip:

And I don’t mean that in a tongue and cheek fashion.  That is pretty much Beck’s theory in a nutshell, love it or hate it.  I tend to be more of a “never assign to malice what can be better explained as incompetence” kind of guy, so that is my explanation for the last two years.  But I admit sometimes you wonder if they are doing it on purpose.

By the way, that headline comes from this line.  And they have a whole page dedicated to his sound clips.  Cool.

Update: Thanks to Lopez in the comments who corrected me for incorrectly referring to the good man as a Drill Instructor. And thanks to AD for another embarrassing typo. Dang that lexdysia!

  1. Perhaps you have heard this by now: there are no “Drill Sergeants” in the USMC. The USMC has Drill Instructors. That is and important, perhaps esoteric, distinction for any Marine.

  2. Thanks, corrected. D’oh.

well, actually we don’t. But, we do know R. Lee Ermey!

  4. Let’s begin with an acknowledgment that he is correct in his observations about Obama — but it strikes me as inappropriate in this venue of an event focused on a Marine Corps sponsored program (Toys for Tots) with uniformed Marines on the stage. It just isn’t the right time or place to go off on the commander-in-chief.

Now maybe I’m being over-sensitive in thinking that, but it just strikes me as problematic. Of course, others may (and likely will) disagree, but I grew up in a military family where we were always told that the civilian command authority was to be respected any time the uniform was worn or the official imprimatur of the military was upon an event.

  5. RWR…
You have to cut The Gunny some slack.
Remember, he’s from Hollywood, and their opinions on Matters of State are never to be questioned.
Plus, it’s not the first time that he’s lit a fire under some feathermerchant’s tail-feathers.

  6. I’m a big fan of the Gunny. A friend of mine encountered him at Camp Perry and said he is very enthusiastic about meeting fans.

That said, Rhymes with Right has a point.

  7. You crossed the line by using the “D.I.” as well. A private can bring down serious kim-chee by calling a drill instructor DI. *shiver*

  8. RWR is correct. I love the guy, or at least the persona that we know from History Channel and Geico commercials. I think he’s gonna have a problem with Geico. They canned their last spokesman for making some looney tunes leftwing comments somewhere not that long ago.

As to whether the O admin is treacherous or incompetent, I’m more in line with Ermey and Beck. Treachery and corruption sprinkled with incompetence is how I view their actions.

Toys for Tots I think knew where R Lee was going to go with his monologue, when they contemplated his role in their program

Unlike Pepsi who hired Madonna to produce an upbeat non controverial video that all walks of life could enjoy, TFT wanted Emery on stage

A rookie police officer was fatally shot as she apparently tried to protect an 11-year-old from an armed man, with ties to Washington state, who burst into an apartment as the officer was taking a domestic-assault report, police officials said Wednesday.

  11. That happend here in DFW area.

Being a cop is hard. Bless her and her family. According to news reports, she always wanted to be a cop. She gave her her life doing what cops do.

  12. You crossed it up again in your update, incorrectly referred to him as a Drill Sergeant, you then correctly updated to Drill Instructor.

Also, It wasn’t exactly a toys for tots event. It was a WLS event, specifically Roe Cahn, that was sponsoring an event for Toys for Tots. Roe and Ermie go back about 5 years, and Lee makes it onto the show a couple times a year, often sitting in for as much as 2 hours on a 4 hour afternoon radio show.

  13. I find the alignment of their actions with that described in this pre-election article:

Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis

to be all too “eerie” to be sheer coincidence melded with incompetence. This is very much into Trout in the milk territory.

It may well be that there are many who are merely incompetent — the large class of “useful idiots” — But I don’t believe that there are not a number of movers and shakers who are very much interested in the breakdown of American civil society, and have been working hard for close to a century to achieve it, if not even longer.

Combine the above article with this one, also written pre-election:

Barack Obama and Alinsky’s Rules for Psychopaths

And you see a roadmap for the recent past, written before the events occurred. Greater faith has been placed in Nostradamus on less evidence.

  14. So, let me get this straight, IgotBupkis. You believe that Obama was powerful enough to have created the financial crisis that started when Bush was in office? You might want to start taking your meds again.

    Jim (8de501)

  15. Jim

I can’t speak for igot, but a few points.

The beck theory is its not just obama. for instance, when Bush was raising concerns about fannie mae who stopped efforts at reform? Bwany Fwank. The housing bubble, for instance, was created by government regulation and intervention at every stage.

And more importantly the bad guys don’t have to create every element of the problem, this just have to take advantage. you know, don’t let a good crisis go to waste…. does that sound familiar.

i still go with incompetence, but it strains credibility that obama not only is this clueless, but can’t hire someone who has a clue.

Anytime is a great time. Ermey can say what he pleases. He’s been retired for 38 years.

  17. Jim,

Even if one assumed that Obama had nothing to do with the creation of the economic woes, he has pursued policies that many acknowledge “don’t help” and make things worse, and not just conservatives either.

And that would be going easy on Obama, for while Frank and others in Congress and Fannie/Freddie were creating the sub-prime mortgage crisis from one end, Obama was doing so on the other end, threatening CityBank with litigation of they didn’t give more loans (whether wise business decisions or not).

Douglas and Dave make points that give a liottle better context, especially that it was not an official “Toys for Tots” event.

  18. MD and Aaron, don’t forget that part of the problem was a result of the SEC’s decision to significantly reduce the amount of reserves held by four of the largest investment banks.
