Home Invasion Shooting (Updated x2)

Filed under: Crime — DRJ @ 4:19 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

A 20-year-old suburban Houston resident — the victim of a daytime home invasion — turned the tables on the robbers:

“The [three] men drove up to the man’s home on Glenwild at Hickory Glen at about 3 p.m. and two of them forced the resident, who as [sic] in the driveway, inside, police said.

As the robbers were demanding money, the 20-year-old resident grabbed a pistol and began shooting, police said.

He shot one attacker several times. That man collapsed in the driveway. He was taken by helicopter ambulance to Memorial Hermann hospital in critical condition, officials said.”

The other attacker fled with a driver.

UPDATE: Much more information in the video at the link.

UPDATE 2: KPRC has another video report. The police found marijuana in the house but don’t know whether it was related to this incident.

  1. one down, two to go…. %-)

they should offer him some time on the police range and some training, so he’s a better shot next time.

  2. No doubt the homeowner will be sued for violating the rights of the individual attempting to do what the government does every day. Get in his pocket.

  3. and in other news, US military who are not trusted to carry weapons were massacred by a jihadi traitor at Ft. Hood.

    yeah, makes lots of sense….

  4. File in Dumb Crook Files….
With these home invasion/robbery/burglary shootings happening all over Texas, and with mostly the same less than favorable results for the bad guys, it takes a particularly dense sort of individual to think that the outcome will be different.

Hey Guys, buy a vowel, and move to Oklahoma (no disrespect for OK intended)!

I don’t get this doctrine of compassion towards jerks.

  6. If this happens to you or a neighbor and the crook is bleeding out take your time with that 911 call. Call your third cousin in Burbank and spend some quality time getting caught up first. Society will thank you.

  7. we are all god’s children. perhaps they had an abusive upbringing? what races were victim and poor. widdle misunderstood criminals? If the urkel economy continues to sink, might not we see more crime, especially if non-criminal firearms are confiscated?

  8. Fortunately, thanks to Obama & Pelosi, from now on people like this will have medical insurance when they get shot and find themselves in need of Medivac via helicopter and extensive emergency room services.

Can you imagine how frightening it is to most criminals knowing that they might get shot or injured and not having medical insurance.

We truly are becoming an enlightened and fair society.

  9. I don’t get spending all that money on a chopper. You make your bets, you take your chances. Hell, in some rural areas I’ve known they would have called a local mortuary for transport.

  10. I have a 9 mm in the bedside table drawer and have been practicing. I know just how that guy felt when those jerks asked him for his money. In Arizona, I only have a .380 in the bedside table there so the crooks probably stand a better chance.

  11. And the grand prize goes to: aoibhneas.

Only after we identify the victim’s race, sexual orientation, and handedness (left or right) can we know whether this is a hate crime or merely another case of the rampant George Bushian Texas cowboy style bitter gun clinging flag salivating shoot ’em up mindset.

The rest of you try harder next time.

Consider this: A dead criminal cannot be interrogated for information about his associates.

  13. First, I don’t support letting someone die if you can help them. Second, you need the wounded robber to live so he can ID his co-conspirators. Third, the 20-year-old (the homeowner’s son) was right to call for immediate help because the other 2 guys could have come back.

Still “it’s Bush’s fault”? Jeez dude how long is that fabricated bogeyman justification going to there is indeed an impregnated problem? Oh yeah Obama will fix all if we just believe. How’s that Hopey Change working out

  18. Calling for help after shooting the guy (in completely justified self-defense) is one of the things that makes you better than the scumbag criminals.

By the way, I’m not aware of any case in the U.S. where a burglar has successfully sued a homeowner for damages caused by the homeowner. A quick Google search reveals only a small handful of cases where burglars even attempt to do so. Even the filing of a suit sucks, of course, because you have to hire a lawyer to defend it, but truly, it’s a very rare thing in this country even for that to happen.

  19. Mike, the .380 and the 9mm are nearly the same, slug wise. Why not a 1911 (GI .45)? I have a .22 pistol, a .22 rifle, and a .30-30 rifle all loaded and ready to go. I practice head shots.

  21. It’s amazing to me that some young man in his driveway was much better equipped to defend himself than the largest military installation in the free world.

As for Mike K’s 9mm… if that’s what he’s comfy with, that’s the best weapon he could use. I think shotguns make the best weapons for defense, but nothing beats the ease of grabbing a pistol in a weird robbery like this. I note that this man left his gun loaded, and unlocked, which really is the only way to be prepared. That’s why you should teach kids how to handle a gun safely… it’s unrealistic to lock them up and unload them, for many folks.

  22. I’ve added Update 2, which includes a link to a video that I think includes a photo of the victim. The wounded individual reportedly sustained three gunshots, one to his head.

  23. Poor Angelo…must an infrequent visitor. Most of the people here are so used to irony that their keyboards have rust spots. Keep coming back, Angelo. I think you’ll enjoy it.
