Hannah Giles’ Dad on the ACORN Videos

Filed under: Government — DRJ @ 4:16 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Hannah Giles’ father Doug on the ACORN videos:

  • O’Keefe and Giles started filming July 24 and ended in August.
  • Doug Giles won’t say how many ACORN locations were visited but they were successful everywhere they went.
  • It cost about $1,300 and Fox didn’t bankroll any of it. Neither did Doug Giles. Fox did pay for their hotel and airfare to appear on the Hannity and Beck shows.
  • Doug Giles, who describes himself as a Christian conservative, did not put his daughter up to this.
  • The tapes were not doctored.
  • This is another Truther/Rathergate/Swift Boat issue. You either believe Giles or you don’t.

Is Keith Olbermann wearing a three-piece suit on Football Tonight, or whatever the NBC Sunday night pregame show is called? What an a-hole.

    2. Doug Giles has more credibility than the lyer who appeared on all those talk shows this morning.

    3. “You either believe Giles and you don’t.”

      And you don’t? Typo alert!

I suspect you meant to say, “You either believe Giles or you don’t.”

    4. Well, there is a difference between the O’Keefe/Giles videos, and previous, Left attempts to bring down GWB (in particular):
      O’Keefe and Giles can provide the original tapes for verification of their authenticity;
Rather and Mapes are still trying to locate “Lucy Ramirez” and the original TANG documents.

    5. It was a typo, Brad, and I fixed it. Thanks.

    6. Those two kids with a camera and some moxy did what “””investigative journalists””” should have done a long fricken time ago. And if some asshat prosecutor somewhere decides to prosecute them for violating some obscure eavedropping law, I’d be the first in line to donate money to their defense fund. Something tells me that they would raise ten times as much money as they would need in such a situation. They are conservative heros!!!

Hopefull;y they will inspire legions more to pick up the tortch and continue on exposing the liberal left’s criminal ways.

    7. Do federal courts have any jurisdiction over this type of state law? I know federal courts have jurisdiction over some state laws but not over others. Could the fed overturn the law?

    8. “This is another Truther/Rathergate/Swift Boat issue. You either believe Giles or you don’t.”

I guess I’m missing some context here. Have significant doubts been cast on any of the basic stuff you itemized here? What’s Truther-esque about this issue? Who doesn’t believe Giles; what don’t they believe; and why?

I’ll grant I don’t spend a lot of time in the lefty corner of the Internet, so I might not be privy to certain memes. But I don’t see how the videos could prompt any real skepticism: They are what they are. It’s all sitting there on tape. What is there to dispute?

As for this: “Those two kids with a camera and some moxy did what ‘investigative journalists’ should have done a long fricken time ago.”

You know, I’ll be honest, for all the reasons we have to dislike the news media, I’m kind of glad that mainstream journalists have internal rules against misrepresenting themselves. (Most newsrooms have policies against even merely using a fake name, let alone dressing up in costume and pretending to be somebody else.)

In a way, the investigation conducted by O’Keefe and Giles needed to be conducted by an O’Keefe and Giles — by someone with a vested interest, without long-term accountability to notions of objectivity. Obviously that got the best result. Certain projects can be undertaken by certain parties.

The media could obviously have done a far better job scrutinizing ACORN (hell, still could). I just don’t know that I’m comfortable with the idea of journalists going around lying about who they are. Let journalists play it straight, and let political foes play it political.

(Scroll down to the “Live Preview” section, below the “submit” button and rollover your links to see if they go where you want them to go before submitting.)

I’ll withhold judgment of your comment since the links are broken. 😉

    11. John Hitchcock:

Fritz has no links, not because they’re broken, but because they don’t exist. However, the link on his name does indeed exist, although I have no reason why.

There may be a point there, and I believe it was intentional, but it’s too obscure to understand or rationalize.

      Ag80 (592691)

    12. ag80, I think people want to interfere with attempts to photoshop dirty pictures of Hannah. the left did a lot of that to Sarah Palin, Bristol Palin, and Michelle Malkin. Hell, they actually went and shot pornography to attempt to prove something about Sarah Palin. I guess they did prove something, after all.

I’m a prude, but I think that was in somewhat poor taste in a thread about her amazing father, who is already probably very uncomfortable with Hannah’s brave as hell willingness to pretend to be a sex slave driving prostitute in … that skirt.

anyway, google bombing those search terms won’t work very well unless you link to a common target page.

    13. Thomas:

What’s Truther-esque about this issue? Who doesn’t believe Giles; what don’t they believe; and why?

I don’t spend much time on leftist websites either, but I k now that ACORN’s Bertha Lewis initially claimed the videos were doctored and then said they were misleading. I also know people have claimed this is all a smear attack on ACORN. Thus, I think it’s reasonable to conclude this is a polarizing issue.

      DRJ (c51ed0)

    14. I think the original accusation was that most of the ACORN offices they attempted this at threw them out.

Then they claimed that O’Keefe redubbed his voice so that ACORN was agreeing to help much worse behavior than they were. Both seem absurd thanks to more recent videos.

What’s interesting is that ACORN’s press releases have been completely dishonest at each step of the scandals’ growth, so the problem is clearly also at the top of the organization (as though such consistent criminal behavior could be a few bad apples). I can’t imagine if Halliburton was caught doing this in Iraq.

      Juan (bd4b30)

    15. I have read enough, thanks to adj Dana’s website, to know that the left will, and does, attack the messenger any time ACORN is brought up, every time ACORN is brought up. They are deeply, intensely, blindly in lust with ACORN. Nothing that is said against ACORN will change their minds. It is all an attack against the big organization that “cares so deeply about the poor you conservatives want to kill” as far as they are concerned.

      John Hitchcock (3fd153)

    16. I think it’s darkly (disclaimer: no racial undertones meant or implied) humorous that their position is essentially, “You should hold the entire organization to account for the action of only five of its offices.”

Where I come from, we call five a “trend.”

    18. You know, I have another question for imdw and other Liberal commenters, If the orgin of the under age sex slaves had been say, Nigeria instead of South America, would that been enough to awaken what little moral fiber you have to decry the idea of ACORN being so willing to assist such schemes?

      PCD (02f8c1)

    19. Where I come from, we call five a “trend.”

Unless they were, in fact, booted from all the other offices, in which case it’s just a matter of bad apples.

Have significant doubts been cast on any of the basic stuff you itemized here?

O’Keefe claimed the tapes weren’t edited, when they clearly are. (He meant not “deceptively” edited.) Breitbart claims that the full transcripts for all of them are up at BigGovernment when, in fact, there are only two full transcripts — for the first and last of the released videos — which is suspicious.

      SEK (9e7eee)

    20. But apart from the skeezy ethics and ACORN’s enthusiasm for child prostitution what these tapes show is how business as usual it is for ACORN to lie to get mortgages for people that really shouldn’t be buying a house. It’s fraud, and that part shouldn’t get conflated with bad apples. I think that would be very naive.

      happyfeet (71f55e)

    21. The worst part of getting a house through ACORN is they know where you live I think. Just to meet them they look kind of like fun little miscreants but on your doorstep they’d just be scary trashy scary people what are trashy and scary.

      happyfeet (71f55e)

    22. SEK,

You are a liar. O’Keefe and Giles were never throw out or asked to leave any ACORN office. Even ACORN’s head backed off the charge the tapes were edited and could provide no proof Giles and O’Keefe were thrown out of any ACORN office.

Parden me, while I step outside and look for the arrival of the porcine air-force.

      AD - RtR/OS! (8c7b14)

    24. Oh, SEK, I see you can’t even condemn ACORN for at all condoning, if not aiding and abetting child prostitution. Some piece of moral trash you are.

Hey, SEK, given each and every ACORN office taught customers how to lie for mortgages, where’s your call for investigation of ALL these mortgages?

Given the Biden defined unpatriotic behavior of avoiding taxes, SEK where’s your call for IRS audits of ACORN personnel and those they “assisted” in filing their taxes?

Hey, SEK, where’s your call for the various states AG’s to investigate the fees ACORN charged for tax advice? I mean you can go to H&R Block or any accountant and get your forms filed for less than the $150 ACORN was charging POOR people for help. Where that extra money go SEK???

      PCD (02f8c1)

    25. Unless they were, in fact, booted from all the other offices

Do you have any actual evidence of this happening, SEK?

      JD (9019c8)

    26. If they were booted from other offices, I think we’d be hearing about it from ACORN. They’d trot out the staff who booted them. As for O’Keefe and Giles, I don’t care if they were financially supported or not. Do you think extreme left wing groups, not to mention George Soros and his ilk, have been behind anti-war actions and protests? You betcha. Actions take money and organizing. O’Keefe and Giles were brilliant. If anything, they were over the top – their costumes were so obvious. Obviously, ACORN has some very dumb employees.
