Absolutely hilarious. Even my wife, who’s a life-long Democrat, was laughing.

With England lapsing fully into an aggressive secularism (all except for the Muslims, that is) I wonder how many readers understood the allusion. For that matter, I wonder how many American readers understand it as well.

Well, after all that, there’s only one thing left to do: “Crucify Him!”

“NBC’s Andrea Mitchell reports that there was never a plan for Obama to take the press to Landstuhl, despite the claim by McCain folks and others. The plan was to go with his military aide, retired General Scott Gration. The Pentagon said Gration was off-limits because he had joined the campaign — violating rules that it not be a political stop.
Obama had gone to see wounded troops in Iraq earlier in the week, without even confirming he’d been there. No press, no pictures. He has done the same when he goes to Walter Reed — never any press.”

I’m sure there wasn’t any plan to visit Landstuhl.
One small problem for the Obamessiah and Andrea Mitchell, though…
It wasn’t Landstuhl that he was scheduled to visit – it was Rammstein. Y’know, where the military hospital (and all those wounded soldiers) is?
And those “others” making the claim? That would be the nice folks at Rammstein, because they were all set up for him and his Senate staff. (No campaign staff allowed, though, which caused the Obama staffers – specifically a 2-star general who should have known the rules – to cancel in the first place.)
Nice try at misdirection, though. Almost on a level with wondering what the meaning of “is” is…

Sorry son, but as usual you’re wrong. Ask your friend WLS:

So close, and yet so far…
You see, Ramstein Airbase (one “m”, by the way) is merely a USAF base in Germany… Landstuhl Regional Medical Center is a US Army/DoD run military hospital…
They aren’t the same thing, and Obama was scheduled to show up at the latter…
But again, an excellent try.

Looks like we’re both right. You’re saying that “the press” was never intended to go, but the problem wasn’t “the press”. It was “campaign staffers” – specifically, a 2-star general who should have known better.
And you are (somewhat) right about the nomenclature. The planes would have landed at Rammstein and the hospital Obama was avoiding was at Landestuhl, just outside the air base that was once known as “Rammstein-Landstuhl”, up until the late 60s…
(God, I feel old sometimes…)
Comment by Drumwaster — 7/28/2008 @ 12:25 pm
And yet most know that, when one says “Landstuhl”, they aren’t refering to the airbase…
