Can You Believe It? Freed GITMO Terrorists Return to the Taliban

According to Military Times:

KABUL, Afghanistan — Five members of the Afghan Taliban who were freed from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay in exchange for captured American Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl have joined the insurgent group’s political office in Qatar, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Tuesday.

They will now be among Taliban representatives negotiating for peace in Afghanistan, a sign some negotiators in Kabul say indicates the Taliban’s desire for a peace pact.

It’s not as if the decision made by the previous White House occupant to trade those five in return for a nutty deserter wasn’t without controversy, even very serious controversy. And naturally, our smug ex-President assured us that this was the most reasonable decision, the reaction of the deal’s critics was simply overwrought, and the liars and jerks he employed in Administration set about smearing every dissenter, which Patterico cataloged for us several months later. And Dana pointed out that there were plenty of other American citizens held overseas that were more worthy candidates of the State Department and Defense Department efforts. But hey, our ex-President pretty much tipped his hand that he knew this would likely be the end result.

Thanks Obama.

  2. Let’s go for the hat-trick and send them Bergdahl, too.

  3. Negotiating with the Taliban for “peace” in Afghanistan is like LBJ negotiating with the KKK for peace in Mississippi. With pretty much the same result for the general population.

  4. What were they supposed to do? Move into an assisted-living community and learn mahjong?

  7. We were the good guys in Afghanistan in 2001 and 2002, and maybe in 2003. We were acting in self-defense. But since then, our tatted-up tranny twink armed forces there have been nothing more than a foreign army of occupation propping up a cartel of opium peddlers. We should bug out and let it be the headache of Pakistan and Russia once more, while we use our spying capabilities and border security to make sure that they can’t carry out another attack on our soil.

As for Gitmo, it’s as disgusting a travesty as we’ve committed since exterminating the Mandans with smallpox. Those prisoners should be tried as unlawful combatants under the UCMJ and imprisoned, executed or released. Keeping them there indefinitely to sublimate the homo-erotic bondage, domination, and sado-masochistic urges of Navy and CIA scum is un-American.

  8. You lost me at “or released”…

  9. If they’re found not guilty, or guilty but credited with time served. It’s not unusual.

  12. Yes that was the argument against supporting Chiang, 80 million dead later how does that sound. These were officials police chief interior minister in the Taliban regime.

  13. Always remember kids the decency of the Presidency under our First Commie POTUS.

So decent. So good. He never lied or did hyperbole. Never encouraged violence. Never helped fund activist organizations seeking to “fundamentally transform” the country into Kenya 2.0.

Not like Orangeman. Decent fellow that Barry.

  14. #1 our joke military didn’t even make bergdork go to prison

He was a victim of racist white men so those very racist white men let him go free with some type of payout for his treason.

…. then people wonder why many believe there is a Deep State undermining the Nation. Because even in the Military and Law Enforcement you see this type of garbage go unpunished of the Left but somehow the Right always pays a price.

No conspiracy, it is simply that anyone who is Leftist in a position of power is a corrupt partisan. Their decisions prove as such.

No. Not whitey, it’s the Robot Overlords…

Now that you mentioned Whitey, do you think there were some prison officials in West Virginia who were in on his killing?

I am not sure anybody was being protected because he wasn’t about the tell the truth about his history anyway. He was still (supposed to at least) be threatening other inmates and getting prison officials to help him.

He was killed in his first day in the Hazelton prison. There has been other rison violence and ashrtage of guards – at least given what they pay them. They were until recently drafting other staff as guards.

The doors to the cells were unlocked every day at 6 am (to let the risoners assemble for breakfast) and they were checked every day at 8 am. They found him still – and clearly beaten by more than one inmate.

  18. I think the biggest problem they have at Gitmo is that they can’t use evidence obtained under torture,, or even maybe the fruits of the tainted tree. But even the planners of 9/11 are still awaiting trial.

There is a kind of contradiction between never letting any member of al QAEda in good standing free and not putting anyone new there.

  19. OT, but… Yes, despite the BDS campaigns on campus, the incitement and physical assaults perpetrated against Jewish students, the knockout game, Louis Farrakhan, “Hymietown,” Al Sharpton and that George Soros and his father collaborated with the Nazis in 1944, the Left loves ‘em some – not all, only the self-hating – Jews.

In the knockout game, the predators get more points for more gentile-looking polar bear types, hence its popularity at nightly closing time during midwestern state fairs.

    https://www.businessinsider.com/khashoggi-probe-erdogan-sends-potential-warning-to-saudi-crown-prince-2018-10?r=UK&IR=T

Erdogan hinted that Saudi Arabia is turning its Khashoggi probe into a cover-up, and it looks like a warning shot at the crown prince

…Saudi prosecutors anonymously told Reuters and the Associated Press last week that Khashoggi’s killers rolled up the journalist’s body after killing him in a sort of fabric, [like Vinvcent Foster – SF] and handed it over to an unnamed collaborator in Istanbul for disposal.

Erdogan is now demanding the name of that person. (there may not be such a person, of course.)

    Sammy Finkelman (102c75)

  25. We’ve shifted from talking about Kavanaugh, to talking about Khashoggi, to talking about the caravan, to talking about the mail sender of probably non-functional bombs, to the synagogue killer, without finishing any of these topics.

    Sammy Finkelman (102c75)

  26. Well hey, election months are BIG for tying up loose ends, burning distressed assets, and releasing massive news dumps to be released during OTHER massive news dumps if you don’t want people actually paying attention to your particular news dump.

It’s also when the media and ruling oligarchy is at its most open and nakedly partisan, as we see Gab, Laura Loomer, and several other prominent righty personalities and gathering places all getting ganked conveniently by sudden discoveries of ‘rule violations’ never enforced for others at the start of election week.

They will all return to their regularly scheduled pretensions of civility one day after the election if the Republicans win, or hilariously double down into violent coup fantasies if the Democrats do.

Vote, vote, vote, and get your friends to vote R too!

  28. Mr. Finkelman, you are a courteous man and a diligent commenter, and your comment at #25 above made me smile. Thanks for that, and cheers!
