Internal Border Patrol Memo: Crisis at Border Caused By Obama’s Release Policy

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:25 am

Washington Times:

Illegal immigrants from Central America are surging across the U.S.-Mexico border because they believe they can take advantage of American immigration policy and gain at least a tentative foothold in the country, according to an internal Border Patrol intelligence memo.

The immigrants come seeking “permisos,” which apparently are the “notices to appear,” the legal documents given to non-Mexicans caught at the border, according to the memo, which was viewed by The Washington Times and raised several times Wednesday at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

Those notices officially put the immigrants into deportation proceedings. The immigrants usually are released to await a court date, giving them a chance to fade into the shadows in the interior of the U.S.

Agents on May 28 interviewed more than 200 non-Mexicans who were apprehended in the Rio Grande Valley, asking why they came to the U.S. and whether they had family in the country.

Apparently, the news that illegals are being released rather than detained serves as a magnet. (Who knew?)

“This information is apparently common knowledge in Central America and is spread by word of mouth and international and local media,” the memo reads. “A high percentage of the subjects interviewed stated their family members in the U.S. urged them to travel immediately, because the United States government was only issuing immigration ‘permisos’ until the end of June 2014.”

But, but . . . but I thought Obama officials told us that it was violence in Central America that was causing the flood of child immigrants.

So their public stance is contradicted by an internal memo? When has that ever happened before?

I see only one way out, politically, for Obama.

Obama must send Susan Rice to the Sunday talk shows to say that his policies did not cause the crisis at the border.

  1. Perhaps they should fire a Twitter at the problem. That seems to be their big gun.

  2. I know the following pertains to a topic posted about previously, but for some reason it’s just now starting to really hit home with me (ie, I always knew the argument that a lame video posted to Youtube was somehow responsible, so the new revelations go without saying). It’s now really starting to hit me that the level of dishonesty, recklessness, unreliability, irresponsibility and incompetency of the people in the White House has moved way beyond a point of simple politics, of merely left versus right. There now is a sense that we’re dealing with mentally unbalanced (deranged?) people, starting with top and moving downward (ie, all of Obama’s groupies).

theblaze.com, June 11: The terrorists who attacked the U.S. compound and CIA annex in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, took cellphones from State Department personnel during the deadly assault and contacted senior terrorist leaders about the success of the operation — and U.S. spy agencies overheard the conversations, Fox News reports.

Eric Stahl, who recently retired as a major in the U.S. Air Force, told Fox News that members of a CIA-trained Global Response Staff were “confused” by the Obama administration’s repeated claim that an anti-Muslim video sparked the terrorist attack because “they knew during the attack…who was doing the attacking.”

The new report, which cites multiple sources, raises fresh questions regarding why the White House made the claim about the video even though it appears senior administration officials knew during the attack that terrorists were responsible.

  3. Our Government is openly subverting the law to precipitate a “crisis” in order to justify either passing an Amnesty law, or an illegal Executive order that will ignore existing immigration law “due to the emergency at our border”.

  4. 2. I’ll explain thjis in another thread.

There is something wrong here, but there is not something made up in Washington, here. Does anyone have the text of the Facebook post by Ansar al Sharia claiming responsibility for Benghazi, which they later retracted disclaimed any connection with? And I also think the CIA cable to teh cairo Embassy mentioned the video. Now the CIA cable is secret, but I don’t know why Google is makinmg it so hard to find a full tranbslation of the Facebook post. (it is described as having mentioned the video)

  5. Can they find some RW Cuban or Nicauraguan to slap together a quickie YouTube video?

  6. But, but . . . but I thought Obama officials told us that it was 726violence in Central America that was causing the flood of child immigrants.

    No contradiction: both are true.

They are mostly coming from one place, and would not be sent on a dangerous journey were it not also dangerous to stay where they are, and the prospect of family reunification and maybe a time limit encourages it.

They are coming alone, because unaccompanied minors are the most likely to be released and not detained, and next most likely are women and children without men, and this has now been discovered and publicized. This policy will not likely be changed even by a Republican president.

They win, unless you want to be very cruel, and inhumane and against family values, or find some other method of discouraging this..

Probably ought to blame Bush while they are at it.

  8. I heard it was a video that so outraged the illegal immigrants, they came here to exercise their U.S. guaranteed Constitutional 1st Amendment right to protest the White privileged Patriarchy about the racist policies of Joe Arpaio.

  10. “would not be sent on a dangerous journey were it not also dangerous to stay where they are”

BS, Sammy. They are doing it for perceived personal advantage and we are letting them.

TV News Reports are telling them it’s wine and roses here and everyone will help them. They aren’t in any special danger where they are.
