Inspiring Anita (Now UPDATED with More Leftist Lies!)

Filed under: Obama — DRJ @ 9:50 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Earlier this week, White House Communications Director Anita Dunn criticized Fox News as an arm of the Republican Party, so it’s not surprising the opinion hosts at Fox News are returning the scrutiny. Tonight Glenn Beck highlighted a Dunn speech (reportedly to high school students) in which she discussed “two of her favorite political philosophers” — Mother Teresa and Chinese dictator Mao Tse-Tung:

Dunn described Mother Teresa and Mao Tse-Tung as “the two people she turns to most” to make the point that every person must find their own path. In my youth, Henry David Thoreau was the hero of liberals seeking their own paths but I guess Obama and his followers are too sophisticated for the comparatively mild-mannered Thoreau. What a shame.

— DRJ

UPDATE BY PATTERICO: Jake Tapper says Dunn is shrugging this off as a joke — but she quite obviously is quoting Mao seriously and favorably. When leftists are caught saying something outrageous or untrue, they often later claim it was a joke.

Oh, speaking of which: meanwhile, on Twitter, TBogg sez of this clip:

Glenn Beck admits that his favorite political philosopher is Adolf Hitler http://tinyurl.com/yl9khv5 (at 3:55) also endorses Mein Kampf.

Which is, of course, a lie.

To see what a shameless lie this is, let’s back up to 3:25. I’ll tell you when we get to 3:55, where TBogg wants you to start watching:

The most important political philosopher for her is Mao Tse-Tung. (Oh, and Mother Teresa.) The guy responsible for more deaths than any other 20th century leader is her favorite philosopher?! How can that man be your favorite anything? He killed 70 mil people. That would be like me saying to you [and now we reach 3:55, where TBogg wants you to start watching] “You know who my favorite political philosopher is? Adolf Hitler! Have you read Mein Kampf?”

TBogg will tell you this was a joke. As I said, when leftists are caught saying something outrageous or untrue, they often later claim it was a joke.

But let’s call it what it is: a straight lie.

  1. The cross in the background suggests this speech was given in a church or Catholic school???? Perhaps Georgetown Univ – they have the most liberal dweebs running that place!

    Go Phils!

    AJ Lynch (e54992)

  2. Are you serious? Chairman Mao? Even John Lennon knew this dude was not a political philosopher, but was a mass murdering monster.

What’s the freaking point of communism if it’s not a better life for the people? Because that’s not the point of a revolution willing to kill hundreds of millions of people to concentrate power in the hands of Mao’s elite.

Mao? Was that supposed to be impressive? The laughter sounds like it came from children. I think this woman was TEACHING kids that Mao was OK. What a terrible and unclever thing to do. There are many heroic liberals that want all the collective policies but didn’t express a justification for murdering hundreds of millions of people.

Mao is probably the actual worst person who ever lived. No one who loves him could ever honestly swear to defend our individual liberties style constitution. No one who loves him could be trusted with power in our White House. But it seems almost as if EVERYONE in this white house is either nutty, a cheat, or a commie.

    Dustin (bb61e3)

  3. Is she chewing gum while speaking, or does she just have some sort of nervous mouth twitch going on when she pauses for breath?

Isn’t it typical of liberals to think nothing amiss about referring to someone who killed at least 30 million of his own citizens as “one of my favorite political philosophers”?

    JVW (d1215a)

  4. That Mr. Beck sure is chatty. Sensible guy though. That fascist Obama hoochie is a dirty commie. In our little White House. I think that’s all Mr. Beck really had to say.

    happyfeet (f62c43)

  5. If we had a media, they’d ask the little president man his Peace Prizey thoughts on this.

    happyfeet (f62c43)

  6. OK, it’s a mouth tick. I seem to recall the late William F. Buckley having a similar one.

Will it surprise anyone that Media Matters is already downplaying this and claiming that Dunn’s words were distorted?

    JVW (d1215a)

  7. Fanatic Bill Ayers famously fantasized that he would have to kill millions of Americans who would refuse his policies. This was obviously a reference to how Mao said he was willing to let 300,000,000 people die to secure communism in his country. Ultimately, it’s impossible to know how many lives it took, but it was tens of millions, and probably closer to 100,000,000 souls.

Mao was a very successful power grabber. And that’s what liberalism is about for some who aspire for ‘public service’. I think of cops and teachers, and they think of a massive budget and lots of connections and respect. There’s all these inconvenient things that get in the way… people believing in God and quaint rights based on 18th century revolution; people running their small businesses better than bureaucrats will ever run their bloated slow ugly orgs; people speaking out and panicking when they resent their government’s power; people having tremendous personal ambition.

What’s the remedy to those obstacles? CRISIS. You need a huge crisis. That’s how Mao did it, and that’s what these people mean when they consider his political philosophy. Anyone referencing this man’s political philosophy favorably is attempting to build a very powerful ruling class at the expense of humanity.

    Dustin (bb61e3)

  8. Media Matters and Bill Clinton is Relevant. Both equally true.

But, yeah, I read that Frederick Douglass book. I recommend it. Why didn’t Beck suggest the Federalist Papers?

    John Hitchcock (3fd153)

  9. happyfeet, I initially was very hesitant to watch Beck because I really can’t stand O’Reilly or Hannity. There’s something deeply insincere about both, and Hannity is just plain unintelligent.

But Beck, for all his hookey goofy manner, is great TV. He wears his heart on his sleeve and I roll my eyes at him, but Fox is a lot better for having him on, and I hope he’s able to persist.

    Dustin (bb61e3)

  10. JVW, as much context as Beck gave for this speech, it’s outright impossible to claim this is a distortion or a joke or a smear. This woman praises and follows Mao’s ideals. She endorses others to do the same. Of course the left will have to give some kind of defense, but they have no real argument.

It’s like those false Rush quotes. I know they need some kind of rationale, but they are basically admitting the guy is clean when they have to stretch it like that.

I am very curious is Obama will keep this liability. He’s had so many losses to the right. He can’t seriously just keep firing everyone, can he? at some point he has to try to ride it out. But if Tom Daschle isn’t big enough to survive, Anita ‘Done’ isn’t.

    Dustin (bb61e3)

  11. I don’t have anything against him other than I think cable news is sort of a hokey concept. Its time came and went I think.

    happyfeet (f62c43)

  12. The far left nuttery come out of this administration’s higher ups surprises even me. At this rate we’ll probably have a video of one of Obama’s undersecretaries or czars claiming the Moussad warned fellow Isrealis in New York about the 911 attacks in advance. In fact, I’m almost inclined to start a betting pool on when (not if) the video circulates. I say by November 30, 2011.

    Sean P (50f5d9)

  13. I’m with you Dustin. Media Matters apparently is willing to gloss over the phrase “my favorite political philosopher.” They are also trying to draw a parallel between Karl Rove or GWB or some other Republican once recommending a biography of Mao as a good read to Anita Dunn’s endorsement of him as a political philosopher. It is bizzarro world with them.

    JVW (d1215a)

  14. The thing to do, in a little country what had a media, would be to make the little president man own the commie hoochie’s lie about how she was joking. Ask the little president man if he thought it was a fun and appropriate joke for high school kids. That’s what a media would do, if we had one in our little country.

    happyfeet (f62c43)

  15. “You fight your war and I’ll fight mine” are not profound words what you need to stop and think about. They’re just not. The commie hoochie is making a straightforward assertion that Mao’s murderous little commie war is analogous to whatever context of political or social disagreement you have at hand. She’s a debased dirty socialist whore what is blatantly grinding her dirty socialist snatch in the face of school kids. It’s that simple. You don’t have to stop and think about it.

    happyfeet (f62c43)

  16. JVW – I found the little datrings-out of her tongue visually-distracting …

Ironic, isn’t it, in light of TV bringing back the TV show – V ! Isn’t that tongue-dart one of the characteristics of the aliens in that show ?

    Alasdair (205079)

  17. Alasdair, it is distracting, but I kind of feel bad about mentioning it since I assume it is something that isn’t easily controlled (if at all). I did at first think she was chewing gum, which would be just the sort of thing a self-centered Obamabot would disrespectfully do while speaking at a religious school.

    JVW (d1215a)

  18. Mao believed “that every person must find their own path”?

Yeah. That’s why every Chinese citizen was required to carry a copy of his little red book.

Isn’t a communications director supposed to be a good liar?

    Icy Texan (6fdd44)

  19. I think she meant every Obama needs to find their own path.

    DRJ (7fbae6)

  20. She didn’t mean that everyone needs to find the path to Obama?

    Icy Texan (6fdd44)

  21. Isn’t that a shining path?

    Eric Blair (8484db)

  22. Sure, the path is shining. It’s paved with taxpayer gold, isn’t it?

    Icy Texan (6fdd44)

  23. Mao’s shining path is paved with blood. The shine is a reflection.

    Apogee (e2dc9b)

  24. Maybe Anita was coked-up while talking to the high-schoolers,,that certainly looked liked ratchet jaw to me.
or it coulda been lying commie dry mouth.
Our country is NOT in the best of hands

    firefirefire (81ecb9)

  25. With that chopped hair and those glasses, it’s obvious she’s a commie. She looks like a commie. And besides, I was in that fat woman’s office a few years back because she wanted to give me a job. I couldn’t take the stench of her body odor so I turned her down.

    John Hitchcock (3fd153)

  26. Beck was awesome yesterday afternoon. His point of comparison with Hitler was that Hitler only killed 7 million whereas Mao killed 70 million and this woman looks to Mao for inspiration when needed. We all should be concerned that there are so many avowed communists as Czars or Cabinet members.

    krusher (6f6e76)

  27. TBogg is a brazen liar. Period. Full stop. He gives sleezy underwear salesmen a bad name.

Anita Dunn appears to be the next sacrificial lamb to be thrown under the back of the bus in service of Teh One.

    JD (2d6d20)

  28. Isn’t that a shining path?

I originally read that as “Golden Path”, and wondered what the God Emperor had to do with this…

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  29. Great riffs above on her politics, tho I do feel a bit sorry for her tic or whatever it is.

Isn’t it typical of liberals to think nothing amiss about referring to someone who killed at least 30 million of his own citizens as “one of my favorite political philosophers”?

    Comment by JVW — 10/15/2009 @ 10:09 pm

Given both their longstanding support for 60 million worldwide abortions annually, not to mention the desire to get themselves positioned for absolute power over literally the very lives (via health care) of every American citizen, why yes. Yes, it is.

    no one you know (1ebbb1)

  30. “When leftists are caught saying something outrageous or untrue, they often later claim it was a joke.”

You mean like what Rush Limbaugh does?

    JEA (53fe4f)

  31. Cite me three examples.

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  32. You leftists really hate Rush, don’t you, JEA?

    JD (b63e69)

  33. JEA, with the Anita Dunn thing, it’s not at all similar. Anita was clearly not joking. Anyone who pretends she was is a particularly dishonest person.

With T-Bogg, while he realizes that Anita was not joking, his style -of attempting to point out how absurd it would be to take Anita at her word by pointing out that Beck was joking about something- is similar to a common thing Rush and many other people do by illustrating absurdity. Only, T-Bogg knows it’s not absurd at all that Anita is inspired by Mao… The premise, that Beck and Anita were both joking, is untrue. But the reasoning would otherwise be rock solid.

    Dustin (bb61e3)

  34. Of course, if your defense is that Obama’s White House is acting at the same level as the level the left claims Rush acts at… a level the left claims is inexcusable, then I welcome your condemnation.

I do not understand how this moral equivalency thing should work… seems like the left is the hypocrite this time.

    Dustin (bb61e3)

  35. I think the left is on to something. This “it was just a joke” stuff is powerful, man. Seriously, check it out.

“You’re mad at me for screwing your wife? Dude, it was just a joke.”

“About those two buildings we flew airplanes into? Get over it man, that was just a joke!”

“What if we destroyed or eradicated 3 million jobs and spent $1 trillion of your money doing it? That was just a joke!”

“Hillary, I wasn’t having oral sex with an intern in the Oval Office. That was a joke. What, the stuff on her dress? Damn are you slow. That’s the punchline!”

and soon coming to a DMV Medical Center near you:

“You thought we said the Death Panels were a like? LOL! That was just a joke. Now take this pill. Our economist says you have to die now.”

    HatlessHessian (cca288)

  36. JEA no doubt has the tapes of Rush saying those things that the lefties are alleging. Right, JEA ? You’ve got the evidence ?

    Right ?

You wouldn’t be lying now, would you JEA ?

    Would you ?

    Mike K (2cf494)

  37. It reminds me of John McCains infamous “Bomb bomb bomb Iran” song. Which we all know was a joke. Right? I think it’s possible she did not know who Mao Tse-Tung was. Not everyone is that well read. So which is better, the shame of admitting she didn’t know who she was talking about or the scandal of being associated with a mass murderer? Hmmm..which one, which one…..?

    The Emperor (0c8c2c)

  38. Sort of like joking about rape, right? And joking about what the Bible says? And, of course, joking about bringing civility and fairness to this or any other comments section?

Well, there is a joke around here. But you aren’t telling it.

    Eric Blair (8484db)

  39. Democrats revering Mao? It’s not unusual. One local NEA Teacher Union Thug locally was in charge of posting inspirational thoughts in the local High School’s cafeteria. She quoted MAO!!! I called her on it. The Assistant Principal said the quote would be pulled. That was before Thanksgiving of that year. In February of the next calendar year I went before the school board with the AP’s letter in hand demanding to know why the quote was still up, didn’t the teachers, administration, and school board realize that MAO murdered thousands of teachers in China, and why they all were lying about not indoctrinating the children into far left wing Democrat nostrums.

The AP put up a quote by MLK to balance the MAO quote. Evidently it hurt too much to have even a centrist American quote.

    PCD (1d8b6d)

  40. Honestly, I think what these characters do is dissect out different aspects of a controversial person. This particular lady was trying to give an example of never giving up.

Mao is not a good example of this, since the cost of not giving up was borne by, um, a large number of people rendered dead.

I’m much more impressed by, say, some of the Wheelchair Olympics competitors. But it isn’t as edgy as claiming that Mao is a hero.

It’s like these people who try to revere Che Guevera. They usually know nothing about him, other than he was a revolutionary against nasty old right wing people. Because there is nothing worse than that.

    Or so we teach children.

I still don’t know why it is cool to think that Mao was a wonderful example of perseverance. It’s sort of like admiring Hitler for being a vegetarian: beside the point.

    Eric Blair (8484db)

  41. Regarding Dunn’s mouth movements:Sometimes people who have been on Major Tranquilizers and similar drugs develop involuntary mouth movements and other muscle movement effects.(usually irreversible). It’s called ‘tardive dyskinesia’. Just a possibility.

    Dr Carlo Lombardi (729021)

  42. Lovie/chimperor – Your asspulls are funny, to be sure. The idea that she does not know who Mao is, when she is being quoted saying Mao is one of her favorite political philosophers is laughable.

    tJD (b9a8a2)

  43. tJD—it’s yet more projection. Perhaps this individual herself doesn’t know all kinds of things.

    Eric Blair (8484db)

  44. Glenn Beck kinda jumped the shark for me when he couldn’t spell “Oligarchy

Which, ironically, he later claimed was a joke.

    carlitos (831ee5)

  45. this just in from Media matters:

Glenn Beck praises essay advocating cannibalism!

    > Today on his show Glenn Beck sung the praises of Jonathan Swift. In particular he cited the essay “A Modest Proposal.” Our crack researchers found the essay and discovered that it was a treatise advocating the murder and cannibalism of irish children! We call on Fox news to fire this radical right wing advocate of ethnic murder and cannibalism!

Can someone explain something to me? okay, on one hand most stand up comedians are liberals. on the other hand, apparently liberals have absolutely no understanding of humor. So who are all these people finding these liberal comedians so funny?

    A.W. (b1db52)

  46. I originally read that as “Golden Path”, and wondered what the God Emperor had to do with this…

Perhaps Eric was referring to Peru’s notorious “Shining Path” communist guerillas, who wantonly murdered hundreds of thousands of innocents in their bloodthirsty drive for absolute power.

    Dmac (5ddc52)

  47. Your asspulls are funny, to be sure.

I’d be careful using the term “asspulls” with this idiot – she might get all hot and bothered again.

    Dmac (5ddc52)

  48. The Empty Roar

    > It reminds me of John McCains infamous “Bomb bomb bomb Iran” song. Which we all know was a joke. Right?

Well, not just a joke. We all understood it to be his joking way of saying he would be tough on iran, and favor bombing if necessary.

    > I think it’s possible she did not know who Mao Tse-Tung was. Not everyone is that well read.

I don’t typically claim to admire people I don’t know much about. And you really don’t have to be very well read to at least start to understand that it is problematic to be praising him. crack open an encyclopedia and the first words are likely to be something like “leader of the communist revolution in china” or “dictator of china for many years.” Maybe she wouldn’t have known about all the millions of people he killed without being “well read” but it should at least be a warning sign.

    > So which is better, the shame of admitting she didn’t know who she was talking about or the scandal of being associated with a mass murderer? Hmmm..which one, which one…..?

Well, of course YOU would think that is a difficult choice to make. You have confessed to getting stimulated by descriptions of child rape.

Anyway, if she is really that stupid, she not only shouldn’t be in a position of power, we should question whether she should be allowed around sharp objects.

And your excuses for her… Well to quote South Park, you are the record.

    A.W. (b1db52)

  49. Dmac, last I heard, those “Shining Path” terrorists call themselves “Maoist.” So Mao is their here, too!

We only wish that Frank Herbert’s stuff was going on. RIP. But come to think of it, sandworm-human hybrids who can see the future could be as bad as Mao.

And Mu’ad Dib’s jihad seems like it killed more people than Mao managed.

Oh well. SF isn’t always pretty.

    Eric Blair (8484db)

The first part could have been tongue in cheek, but quoting him approvingly was not. How appalling.

    MayBee (34a54a)

  52. To paraphrase JD, it is a disguting, vile, enormous postule on the face of humanity.

    Dmac (5ddc52)

  53. Anita Dunn was right. Fox News is indeed a Republican attack dog. They are just proving the point. Nice work.

    The Emperor (1b037c)

  54. Wow, emperor’s dissembling and explaining is even more obtuse and reaching than usual.

What, sire, did a new memo from Axelrod cause you to become even more desperate?

    BJTexs (a2cb5a)

  55. ^Would lovey explode if it couldn’t communicate any lie?

By definition, it lies with every utterance.

    BJTexs (a2cb5a)

  58. “Democrats revering Mao? It’s not unusual. One local NEA Teacher Union Thug locally was in charge of posting inspirational thoughts in the local High School’s cafeteria. She quoted MAO!!!”

So, you’ve got one instance of it, yet you’re labeling all libs as Maoists. Just like like the left labels all conservatives as racists, even though they’re not.

Hyperbole, not unlike the ‘we are all Limbaugh” nonsense I read on redstate.

    JEA (53fe4f)

  59. My apologies – I should have said: even though the vast majority arenot.

    JEA (53fe4f)

  60. She obviously meant that as a joke, seeing how the audience laughed when she said it. But I see how you folks are so desperate to get back at her for stating what everyone knows is a fact. Fox News is an arm of the Republican party. That is a fact that has not changed. Nor ever will. But keep digging. You will surely find something-gasp-most incriminating and damaging. It’s always out there.

    The Emperor (0c8c2c)

  61. If she was joking, she could have said, “Even though he was a reprehensible murdering tyrant, he achieved his aims and we can learn from that.” She didn’t say that.

This, to me, is even scarier. It’s Anita’s words transformed into action: WH and your TV

    Patricia (c95a48)

  62. MayBee – Tapper is usually better than that. Sad.

BJ – This is is full on schizo, and gets stimulated by reading transcripts of child assrape testimony.

  78. The Empty Roar

    > Fox News is an arm of the Republican party.

Okay, which network, prey tell, put out fake memos in order to influence an election?

Which newspaper ran a bogus missing explosives in Iraq story before the 2004 election?

Which networks reported on the scandal surrounding Van Jones that ultimately led him to resign?

Which networks reported on the scandal regarding ACORN which ultimately led to a bi partisan effort to defund it?

Say what you will about fox, but fox doesn’t bury stories damaging to one side, or make crap up out of thin air.

Really, only a far left loon thinks that Fox is biased and none of the other networks are.

    > You [JD] on the other hand are impotent and incapable of sexual arousal.

Being impotent when reading about a rape of a child is not exactly a bad thing, you know?

Some people have too much compassion for the little girl to think at all about how much fun Polanski is having. It’s a sign of care and character. And in fact it is about love, too, Christian love for the victim, instead of the depraved selfish eroticism of her assailant and any creep who in reading a victim’s account of a rape cannot help but imagine what it is like to be her rapist.

    A.W. (b1db52)

  79. How do you suggest I prove you are lying? Your claims of my sexual inadequacies shows how freaking juvenile you are, and are especially ironic when you have talked of getting off to childassrape.

    JD (59882e)

  80. Lovey makes sexually explicit personal attacks, uses some of the most vulgar terminology, swears like a drunken sailor in a foreign port, gets chills of excitement reading about a 13-year-old getting raped, defends the man who raped that 13-year-old, makes lieing claims about what the Bible says, and tries to pass itself off as some sort of Christian. Sometimes all in one comment.

And Lovey still has posting privileges here? Someone’s exceedingly generous and it ain’t Lovey.

    John Hitchcock (3fd153)

  81. Couple the above with your lie/smear/innuendo that I abuse children, and people well see who/what you are.

I am not even going to try to defend myself or explain my comment any further. But know that when you lie about someone’s words, you will pay a price. You are turning into a liar, my friend.

Name one false part of what I said. You are reading where a 13 year old describes being raped and you say you find it stimulating. What part of that isn’t true?

  92. With respect to that McCain story, there was a huge uproar when Reagan made a joke about bombing the Soviet Union when he was testing a microphone before a speech. It turns out, years later, that that was a planned exercise to needle the USSR which had just been using Carter as their punk for four years. It apparently worked and there was a flurry of Russian worry for a while. I suspect McCain was doing the same thing. Obama has a different policy. Fellating Ahmadinejad is not as effective.

Let me clarify this again. I am sexually active and virile. I have a great sexual life. I am healthy and normal. I find sexual content of the straight type very stimulating. When I read the victim’s testimony, I felt it was too graphic and provoking. Absent the fact that this was the testimony of an unfortunate 13 year old, being abused by a man three times her age, the content was sexually offensive. I am not stimulated by the idea of sex with minors. I only felt that we should have been spared the lurid details. And yes. I have a right to express my feelings. So there it is. I have no apologies for being honest. Maybe some of us here should try that. I say it as it is. That’s the trademark of The Emperor.

Well, I’m not the president so the jet doesn’t take off when I tell it to and I can’t hire great minds to argue.

So, I did the next best thing, I drove to the bookstore. Here is who I put on my “book cabinet”: I got Alan Dershowitz. He’s opinionated, obnoxious and at times-when he’s not talking about the OJ Simpson case-he makes a good point. Let’s see, let’s put him in a room with… Adolf Hitler. I’d love to see those guys go at it. So next: Hitler’s Mein Kampf. The something by Pope John Paul, along with Carl Sagan. I looked really hard, who else would I like to see in a room together? 140. really bored,

It’s not the same thing to call Mao your favorite genius inspiration, as many in our White House seem to, and to say that Mao is a great threat and we should carefully study him to better defeat that type of evil here and abroad.

I mean, that can’t really be the democrats’ argument, can it?

Compare how Obama (and his branch of government) treats Rush or Fox News to how he treats Rev Wright, Mao, Ayers, Ahmedinejad, the motherf–king Taliban etc. Now compare how Senator Mccain treats Obama or Reid to how he treats the Taliban, or the VC. There is a fundamental difference in how the White House treats our nation and humanity’s real enemies to how it treats its loyal political competitors.

It’s not OK to praise Mao, and it’s not OK for the White House to tell us they are interested in emulating him. that’s a serious thing.

    Dustin (bb61e3)

  141. And again with the projection:

“…You are more interested in making obscene statements and having your little crowd cheer you on…”

The first part sounds pretty much like you have been acting. Hence the projection. The second sounds like you are jealous of people having friends. Which, based on your actions here, is unsurprising.

Not that it matters. You have made your views abundantly clear, and your lies (now you say you weren’t aroused by the rape testimony, while anyone can go look at what you originally wrote) even clearer.

It’s all games to you. Or you are literally unaware of what you have written in the past 24 hours or so. Maybe both.

The problem is that you have shown that all you have to offer here is juvenile insults, profanity, and bizarre self-aggrandizement.

  145. From today’s “Best of the Web Today” WSJ.com, Robert Reich responds to negative reactions to his speech about the truths of universal coverage:
Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, Rush, and the right-wing blogosphere seem interested in a talk I gave in September, 2007 to students in a political science class here at Berkeley, in which I played the role of a presidential candidate so politically incorrect and tone-deaf as to pummel every sacred cow in sight–including the notion that our society could afford and would continue forever to pay whatever amount of money was required to keep everyone alive forever. The whole point of the mock exercise was to show that presidential candidates can’t state what everyone knows to be the truth because they’ll be taken apart by the Right or the Left. I slew many other sacred cows in that mock exercise, some of which are held dearly by the Left. Nonetheless, two years later the Right has exhumed the lecture and taken my words completely out of context purportedly to show that Obama and the Democrats plan death panels.
If their desperation weren’t so pathetic it would be funny. After all, they have proven the whole point of my lecture. UC Berkeley maintains an archive of webcasts and my speech is available there verbatim, should you wish to listen to it in its entirety.

Would it have been faster for him to say “it was a joke!”?

This doesn’t have anything to do with Mother Teresa, except that democrats are so insane they think those two are somehow comparable, aside from being celebrities.

Mao is absolutely and obviously a historical threat to the republic and humanity.

You claim that it’s the right that is saying its political enemies in the dem party are more dangerous than our national enemies abroad, but that’s just plain a lie. Did you read my argument? The GOP’s last nominee clearly treated democrats much more respectfully than he would treat the Taliban, for example. And your White House is obviously guilty of condemning Fox News and the GOP much more harshly than our actual enemies in the world. This is transparent projection. Mccain faced the liberal press and answered their questions. Obama refuses to talk to Fox News, but begs to talk to Iran. Obama says ‘shut up’ ‘I won’ ‘punch back twice as hard’ in reference to the GOP, but claims the Taliban has a role in governing.

You are right that it’s wrong to do this… I think you just don’t seem to recognize where it’s occurring.

  158. Dustin (@#142 at the moment) – the problem with trying to take an attitude of “I’m never going to do *anything* that Hitler did !” is that it also means you’ll never have the trains running on time …

It makes a lot more sense to be aware of the entirety of those like Hitler or Stalin or Mao, to be able to learn both from their mistakes and their genuine achievements (when they have any) …

Eric Blair – the current Dems aren’t the Progressive Party, they are the Projective Party … most of their complaints about the GOP are projection … they wouldn’t recognise real progressive stuff if it bit them in the ‘The Emperor’ …

And the lack of self-awareness that so-continuously produces gems like this one—

    <

i>”…do you now accept that Rush did or said something to attract the attacks on him…”

You further implied that Polanski’s supposed artistic merit entitled him to special tratment.

You further stated (and have repeated) that the fact that the victim no longer personally desires retribution means that the State of California should forget about the fact that he is already a self admitted felon who owes the state a long prison sentence.

    Tee hee hee hee.
She was using irony. Google it along with “humor.” Though that won’t help because for you it sill simply be a definition. You don’t “get” irony. Or as Jack Nicholson might say, “You can’t handle the irony.”

As I recall you stated that the rape was not really rape because she was not physically injured, or that she had not screamed loudly enough.

No, depressed, I said that this case is being judged as Statutory rape and not Forcible rape. Seeing that all sexual misconducts involving minors are categorized as rape because a minor is not in a position to make an informed decision when it comes to sex. I was also careful to add that this does not make it any less rape as it is. But it is a fact that there is a difference between Statutory rape and forcible. I have always stated that this is still rape.

You further implied that Polanski’s supposed artistic merit entitled him to special tratment.

Another untruth. I did not say Polanski deserves “special treatment” because of his art. I merely pointed that out as one of the positive things that has come out of him.

You further stated (and have repeated) that the fact that the victim no longer personally desires retribution means that the State of California should forget about the fact that he is already a self admitted felon who owes the state a long prison sentence.

And what is wrong with that? The victim is not interested in seeing the man punished for it. That is fact. Not my doing. Yes the state reserves the right to throw him to jail in spite of this fact. You don’t see me anywhere disputing that. The law is the law.
And let me say this, asking that a crime be forgiven in no way suggests that the crime is not a crime. It is not an endorsement of the crime. When amnesty is granted to a criminal, does it mean the state that granted the said amnesty is now condoning the crime? Hardly.

We all make mistakes? Show of hands: how many people hear have drugged and raped a thirteen year old girl?

And then about two hours later….

“Let me be clear. I am not defending Roman Polanski. I think his behavior was disgusting, as well as despicable. I am not saying he does not deserve to be punished for it. He does. My issue is that nothing is gained from this whole stuff. Except opening up old wounds for the victim. What is she saying in all this? Is she seeking justice for this? What is she really saying? Forgiveness is a Christian, as well as a universal injunction. That is the only way for real healing to start. To err is human. To forgive is divine.”

Don’t you love the Biblical stuff?

    So let’s review:

“Who really cares what happened thirty two yeas ago?”

” I am sure the victim may have moved on beyond this. So should we. We all make mistakes.”

    Against:

“I am not defending Roman Polanski. I think his behavior was disgusting, as well as despicable. I am not saying he does not deserve to be punished for it. He does.”

Right. No contradiction there? Emperor has been flat out lying on this topic. My guess? S/he posted something flippantly and then refused to back down. Realized that the original post made her or him look kind of skeezy, and then tried to brazen through a denial in the same freakin’ thread.

Now, none of this will do any good. This nasty little troll is just posting to stir people up, after all. So the response will be Clintonian hair splitting, and personal insults.

But we all know the truth, and there is the first bit: A lie. And about child rape.

    So….time for Emperor to go?

    Let me repeat that.

He committed a violent rape against an unwilling victim. An unwilling victim who was thirteen years old. Which made her less than one third his age.

Even mentioning statutory rape looks like an attempt to imply that she consented to the acts. She in no way consented. She specifically did not consent at each escalation of the assault.

Why would you even try to find a “positive” in the character of a man who would violently rape a thirteen year old?

  217. Empty Roarer – I have even posted that he is guilty of Statutory rape as well. If the girl had come naked and willing to his bed, gotten him drunk and had had consensual sex with him he would STILL be going to prison.

But that is not what happened.

    No.

Polanski plied a thirteen year old with alcohol.

He gave her a controlled prescription tranquilizer for the purpose of making her more compliant.

He ignored her refusal of his advances and overcame her efforts to reject him by using her fear and his size against her.

If his victim had been 50 years old he would still be guilty of rape. And he would still deserve to go to prison.

    Have Blue (854a6e)

  219. Empty Roarer – In comment 216 you admit that Polanski committed rape. But in prior comments you have stated at length you don’t think he should be punished?

I’m late to this thread, but what the hell are you talking about?! That idiot at the lectern was speaking in a serious, sincere manner. The slight laughter from the audience apparently came from those who couldn’t relate to the ultra-leftism of Dunn and, at first, must have thought she was being merely tongue-in-cheek. IOW, they sensed a person who paired Mother Theresa with an ultra-fanatic butcher like Mao either was totally non-serious or truly deranged.

The sickening thing about leftists — such as you or Dunn — is their belief that liberalism gives a humane, generous and beautiful glow to a human. Even ultra-leftists along the lines of Mao must believe their motivations are predicated on a great concern for humanity.

If leftists start admitting they’re actually rotten human beings to the core, or certainly are no more humane, kind and decent than anyone else, maybe they’ll start seeing the light. And if someone like Mao can be honest enough to say that the extremism he embraces is inspired by ruthless, sadistic, vindictive, sociopathic emotions, I’d give that person credit for being honest about himself.

  243. In comment 216 you admit that Polanski committed rape. But in prior comments you have stated at length you don’t think he should be punished?

Do you feel that all rapists should be let go with an apology for ruining their day by arresting them?

Or is there something special about this case?

    Comment by Have Blue — 10/16/2009 @ 5:38 pm
With due respect to DRJ, I just felt I had to asnwer one last question and with it sum up my position on this Polanski case. First of all, this is a case of rape. Second it is a crime. Thirdly, Polanski deserves to be punished for it. Next, the victim is no longer interested in seeing this case go to court. When I said something about forgiving this case and moving on, it had nothing to do with whether Polanski deserves to walk. It is just me opining on what I think is the Christian thing to do. No I don’t think rapists should be let to go when they commit a crime. I believe that the law was put in place to protect lives, as well as to establish order. A society without law is a society in anarchy. Fine, you don’t think Polanski deserves to be forgiven. That is your position. You have a right to that point of view. My position has always been, yes he deserves to be punished but if it is possible, he should be pardoned. Especially because the victim thinks so. That does not make me a supporter of a child rapist anymore than a defense attorney asking for clemency for his client makes the lawyer a criminal. The question here is judgement versus mercy. Yes he has every reason to be punished but mercy can be shown. And if it will not be shown, fine, he goes to jail. Everyone is satisfied. This is and always has been my position. I have asked for prior comments I have made on this issue that contradicts what I am saying and so far there is none. I hope this will be the last I shall need to talk about this.

There is a reason this crime is called statutory rape. This is a case of illegal sexual act with a minor. It is called rape because a minor is considered incapable of making a matured decision on sex. It would be a real case of rape as john de-tinycock is referring to in the Bible if the victim can prove she was forced against her will and that she shouted. This 13 year old evidently did not scream nor attempt to escape. Yes you may point out that she was drugged and kept saying “no, no. stop…” But we know how a rape victim behaves. Real rape victims. This remains a case of statutory rape. Sex with a minor. Not forcible rape. There is a difference. It does not make Polanski’s act less criminal and vile, though. But it is what it is.

My statement is not a very intellectual one. It’s more of a moral thing. Come on. Who really cares what happened thirty two yeas ago? The girl in question should be what? 45 years by now? The man lost his wife violently. A lot of stuff has happened since then. Besides he has produced some really nice works. I am sure the victim may have moved on beyond this. So should we. We all make mistakes.

  247. Lovie,

You claim “mercy” as a method to avoid punishment but what has Polanski done to deserve mercy?

    Does John Demjanjuk deserve mercy?

I just don’t get this line of reasoning. If the guy had escaped to Nepal and donated all his wealth to feeding starving orphans ….

He fled the law, kept up his rapist ways, kept making movies, became a bigger cult hero to the degenerate left, and lived the life of a millionaire.

Personally, you are willfully ignoring facts either to pee off people or b/c you frankly don’t think pedophilia is crime but can’t admit it.

Should we allow victims of crimes to choose whether they would rather be financially rewarded or see the perpetrator go to jail?

If I were raped by a millionaire, $600,000 would do a lot more for me personally than seeing him spend 90 days in jail. It doesn’t do much for society, though.

noyk, judging from the comments you posted, it is clear that I have always agreed that this is a case of rape. Statuory or otherwise. My point is that Polanski does not need to forcibly rape her for this to be called rape. When judging all cases of sexual misconduct with minors, it doesn’t matter if the sex was consensual or forced. All sexual intercourse with a minor is regarded as rape. So we don’t need to embellish the detals or try to make it more terrible. Even if she did not resist, it would still be rape. and in this case statutory. The reason I brought up the issue of statutory versus forcible was to draw a distinction and to keep the conversation honest. The crime here is that he had sex with a minor. Whether she was coerced or not is not important.

Do I at least have a right to an opinion? Why is my humble and-to a large extent-not too important opinion drawing so much flak here? I am not the Judge who will handle this matter nor am I going to be among the jurors who will decide this case. I am just another commenter who is offering his view point like any other person can and should. This is becoming ridiculous. People should take out there anger and frustration on Polanski and not on me. Hell I don’t even know this guy!

    The Emperor (0c8c2c)

  254. “Whether she was coerced or not is not important.”

    – The Emperor

It’s very important. That’s what everybody’s getting so pissed at you off about – whether she was coerced or not is extremely important, second only to the fact that Polanski had sex of any sort with a 13-year old girl (which is the most important aspect of the case).

    Leviticus (30ac20)

  255. That’s not the only reason why everybody’s so pissed off, Leviticus – but as usual, your point’s well taken. But when someone actually states that they’re stimulated after reading about the sexual assault in detail, that’s not only depraved, it’s cut – and – dried sick.

    Dmac (5ddc52)

  256. I guess I should add that an ex – girlfriend from long ago was sexually abused by her father, and she was just beginning to process that awful reality when we had first met. The details were something out of a horror movie, except that you couldn’t walk out if you didn’t like it – I have no tolerance for anyone who makes jokes or makes light of situations like that, and this particular instance went so far beyond the acceptable levels of decency that I feel that it cannot be excused, nor condoned in any way, shape or form.

    Dmac (5ddc52)

  257. I think lovie/chimperor has to have been on a crank/meth bender, as he/she/it appears to not remember its own words, and does not know the significant differences between statuatory and forcible rape.

  258. Matthew 15:17-20 (New International Version)

17″Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what make a man ‘unclean’; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him ‘unclean.’ ”

    Matthew 5:27-29 (New International Version)

27″You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ 28But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

Lovey lies about what Lovey already said. Lovey slanders other commenters here. Lovey claimed to be “sexually virile” thus has been sexually immoral. Lovey got aroused by an account of rape of a 13-year-old, thus Lovey is guilty of raping a 13-year-old in Lovey’s heart. By Lovey’s own words, Lovey is in danger of spending eternity in hell.

    Matthew 7:15-23 (New International Version)

15″Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

21″Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Lovey claims to be a Christian but Lovey’s words and deeds are not the fruit of a Christian. And Christ will say “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoer!”

Of course, Lovey can still change its ways as long as Lovey is still alive and not comatose.

Wow, you must really have trouble in that department to be obsessing so much on this.

    > No, depressed, I said that this case is being judged as Statutory rape and not Forcible rape.

And ignoring that she said no, which even if she was 18 means it is rape. Because according to you the bible requires a woman to scream and fight, even though that is not what the bible actually says.

    > Another untruth. I did not say Polanski deserves “special treatment” because of his art.

Who exactly do you think you are fooling? You have made exactly that argument.

    > one of the positive things that has come out of him.

As opposed to the negative thing that went into his victim.

    > Asking that a crime be forgiven is not a defense of the crime.

Maybe not, but saying that he should be forgiven for the crime, and not serve jail time is saying “he does not deserve to be punished for it.” and since you claimed you didn’t say that, you are caught in a contradiction.

    > I am waiting for more serious contradictions.

Which implicitly admits that you were at least caught in a minor one.

    > I am not the only person saying that.

Yeah, you have Woody Allen in your corner, too!

    > Whether she was coerced or not is not important.

Well, it depends on which version of you we are talking to. The one who says that even statutory rape is a serious crime? Or the one who doesn’t think its rape unless the woman is screaming and fighting? The one who fails to understand a mere lack of consent is enough to make it rape.

Is that stimulating enough for you?
