A Notice Regarding Recent Comments (Updated)

Filed under: Blogging Matters — DRJ @ 4:12 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

There’s been a formatting change here and it’s affected how comments appear on the right sidebar under “Recent Comments.” It should be fixed soon, if you define “soon” as sometime before the midterm elections.

UPDATE 1: I’m kidding about the midterm elections. Hopefully it will be fixed a lot sooner than that.

UPDATE 2: Fixed! I never realized how much I liked the ‘Recent Comment’ feature until it was gone.

  1. This really is a shame. I love the side bar, but I bet it is hard on some server somewhere.

Oh well. Thanks for the blog, anyway. Even with nk, I really enjoy it.

  2. I’m kidding about the midterm elections part, Juan. Hopefully it will be fixed today or tomorrow.

  3. It’s probably Leviticus’ fault anyway.

Now, was that nice? nk makes this blog!

  5. For some strange reason, I decided to look up our esteemed host’s first blog entry. The first one was dull, but I liked closing line from the second:

And when my pop-up blog regime kicks in, my hit count passes Drudge’s, and I get my own Fox News talk show, you’ll be able to tell people that you read this thing way back in the days when you still had a choice.

Of course, our esteemed host is way ahead of me in the hit count, but we’re still waiting to see Patterico with his own (hit) Fox News talk show! 🙂

  6. Dana, I was joking.

It’s a shame that nk has been so rude to me, but it’s completely normal flak on the internet to run into people like that. Lots of weirdos out there who decide they have allies and enemies on the internet… instead of trying to have discussions they are trying to ‘win’. It’s not a big deal that nk screeches at me, but I actually think I’m being extremely charitable towards this soul.

But I was joking, at any rate.

  7. sidebar’s back!

  8. Recent comments are not back, and for those of us who follow from a Blackberry, that is a nice feature.

  9. It really is a great feature. Makes this blog much more dynamic.

  10. There’s been a formatting change here

I sure wish patterico.com would eventually modify the format of its forum interface. I’m referring to how it’s one of the few, if only, message boards on the net that has no visual “handrails” (meaning either horizontal lines or boxes) to separate each post. Therefore, they all run together, and my eyes tend to glaze over, particularly when scanning dozens of postings at a time. The format is not as bad as but still sort of similar to long blocks of sentences that omit paragraph breaks.

  11. I “screeched” at you one time on one thread where you caused Jack Dunphy to close comments completely, and another time on another thread where you had one of your comments deleted by DRJ. Two things which are very rare occurrences here. Was there another time?

  12. Comment by The Dana who appreciates our Windy City barrister’s wit — 7/20/2009 @ 4:19 pm

And then there are those of us who appreciates nk’s wit half the time – or something like that.

  13. OK, AD, that one’s worth a point — or at least half of one!

    The amused Dana (474dfc)

  14. I graciously accept your half-point in the spirit it was offered.

  15. nk, DRJ did delete my comment about what a horrendous effect Cronkite’s words meant in the lives of people in the far east (and my disgust at Cronkite’s pride over that effect), but I wasn’t attacking anyone here… I was just, as she said, not recognizing his accomplishments, which I think was a reasonable rule (though I explained in that thread why I disagree with it). It’s hard to have a discussion about that without bringing up Cronkite’s actions in greater detail, which would just be rude to DRJ. Unlike some people, I try not to be rude.

Four or five times you have entered a thread for the sole reason of attacking me (I’m obviously not counting this thread). It’s just weird. I realize that there’s always going to be one of you guys acting like that. Your defense is that you recall doing so only one or two times?

Anyway, if you like to go to memorials and scream shut up, you should be able to take the occasional joke about your strange behavior. Like I said, I have been charitable towards you.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  16. I guess that should give me ¾ of a warm fuzzy feeling . . . or should that be ¼?

    The sarcastic Dana (474dfc)

  17. I think that nk is alright
Even if Juan he happened to bite

    Together we’ll drink beer
Even though we’ll continue to fight

  18. Dana, I actually think we (nk and I) agree on almost everything, which is part of my intrigue. I have absolutely no idea what I did that pissed him off this much, and keep wanting to ask why, but to do so would take so much more time than this is worth.

That’s why I opted to just make a joke out of this odd stuff.

I’d be lying if I said I was trying to clear the air… but it’s not really a problem for me that required clearing. It’s just a punchline.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  19. Were y’all calling nk a half-wit or a whole wit?

    JD (f086e6)

  20. Juan,

I think NK likes to needle people who can take it. Maybe it’s his Greek heritage [EDIT: Greeks are known for their rhetoric], his competitive spirit, or that he’s a defense counsel among (what used to be) several prosecutors. Or maybe it’s just his way of having fun and/or letting off steam. My advice is that if you like him, he’ll like you. I also think that’s the way get along with almost everyone.

    DRJ (6f3f43)

  21. No, it was nothing like that on my part. No needling and no gratuitous attacks. The first time, it was a memorial post where Detective Clemmer’s cousin showed up and asked for some respect. And I don’t know whom I need to tell the difference between Levi and Leviticus, here. But I would like to know what the other two or three times were, because they do not stick out in my mind.
