President Trump: Good Morning, America!

Filed under: General — Dana @ 1:05 pm

[guest post by Dana]

This morning, President Trump tweeted his favorite political slogan, and followed it seven minutes later with an inflammatory tweet targeting the same four Democratic congresswomen he’s been publicly scuffling with since last week:

Untitled

Untitled

I’ve lost track if he’s triple-tripling down now or what, but obviously he has no intention of letting up. In Trump’s playbook, an incumbent President can never begin a re-election campaign too early. And if an opportunity presents itself and your base is on board, then jump on it.

Polling this week, done after the “send her back” rally, after his head-spinning disapproval/approval of those “incredible patriots” and after this morning’s tweet should be telling about whether his tactics are working.

I’m not going to opine on the second tweet other than to say, the man knows how to tap into his base. Please tell us what you think about the second tweet in the comments section: Smart political move? Effective strategery in action? Dunderhead move? A con man works his easy marks? Grifters gonna grift? Opportunist at work? Giving voice to what a lot of Americans think? All of the above?

  7. If only Trump was modulated and polite, Dems would have been fairer and nicer to Reagan, Romney, and McCain. And Bork, and Thomas.

Kavanaugh would have been confirmed on a voice vote! Kamala would have shaken his hand, and never intimated that he was lying under oath. The Senate would have gathered around him to celebrate his confirmation.

The left would have accepted Tea Party concerns as genuine issues, posed by genuine citizens: the media would not have called them tea-baggers, and no government official would have used the IRS against them.

No one would have suggested on the senate floor that Romney didn’t pay taxes.

Antifa would have been renounced by the Left: Portland Mayor wheeler would have prosecuted them.

Sanctuary cities would never have been created and Dems and Repubs would be working together to lower the deficit, build the wall, reform our abused asylum laws,

Hillary would never have called anyone deplorable, or threatened to undo Citizens United, (which is OK because its a BAD decision but Roe is a good decision).

Colleges would be teaching US history as if it was a good thing.

That Trump. If only he was more polite.

Ahh, those other people are probably bad, so it’s fine that my guy tells those folks to get out of the country. It’s fine that he’s really stupid and blatantly bigoted, because he’s not the same kind of bad as then, and it makes them mad, so go team.

  12. Nancy Pelosi said the WORDS that the President used were racist. But those same words are in the Dictionary. Does that mean that the Dictionary is now racist? Should all Dictionaries be banned since Democrats are offended by words?

Diamond and Silk, famous tRump fangrrls who are brown, so they know.

You see, it’s words that are racists, it’s all a conspiracy, it’s not the order of the words you use, it’s not who uses the words, it’s the words themselves, evil words. I thought Trump had all the best ones though?

    Colonel Klink (Ret) (6e7a1c)

  13. Well, he’s got everyone talking about everything but his opponents and their campaigns, which caused me to reference in another post that it reminded me of the show West Wing, where the shows characters shouted “they’re stealing our news.” Is it masterful, or just a plain coincidence? You tell me.

  14. He’s trying to make these four congresswomen the face of the Democratic party and run against them. It will be interesting to see how the moderators in the next debate address the issue and how the candidates respond. The Democratic field will narrow considerably soon, and eventually Trump will have to contest against one candidate. Then this short term strategy will lose its effect.

I think that’s what happening…now, but there’s zero chance that was a strategy going into it. That’s the trick though, back into a strategery after the fact, then, when he does the thing this week that makes that seem tame, we’re supposed to forget the actual linear flow of time. Then later this week they’ll be a retcon of that idiocy for strategery, but then the following week…

He expressed an extremely common human sentiment throughout history that those who’ve led their whole lives maintaining an ‘advertiser-friendly environment’ cannot stomach.

Like territoriality and heterosexuality, these sentiments evolved for a very good reason and those who dismiss them because they agonize over hypothetical foreign offense taken versus very real native offenses suffered will receive Darwin’s just rewards for their compensation.

    nk (dbc370)

  24. Right you are, nk. I forgot.

It seems to me that she has got to figure out how to unify, and quickly. Perhaps the meeting with AOC will clarify (to AOC) that a general election is bigger and more impacting than even the Squad

    Dana (bb0678)

  25. Well she needs to get a whole new set of dunce caps on Amazon’s hence the delay.

    Narciso (5d1b28)

  26. Nobody has mentioned the yuge opening Trump’s tweet this morning has given the Democrats: while he did not say that these four congresswomen were unable to love the country because they are minority women, that they are minority women, the left will run with that line. IOW, President Trump says Democratic congresswomen unable to love the U.S. because they are minority ethnic women. And queue the media framing the Dems will play that next week.

Now, while his defenders cheer this on as brilliant strategy on his part, the problem is, he is most definitely reaching his base and firing them up. But is this drawing in Independents and swing voters? I don’t think so. And that’s who he needs. There is far greater risk that he ends up losing much needed voters by his lack of restraint. In the short term and with his base, this might be a successful strategy, but long-term up to the election, I don’t think so.

    Dana (bb0678)

  27. He didnt say that, but the dems put them forward precisely because of their ethnicity,

  29. I’ve lost track if he’s triple-tripling down now or what,

He’s altering the line of attack on these four Congresswomen.

According to the New York Times, he also said that he had heard a rumor that the “Democrat Parrty: was going to change its name to the Socialist Party. (The New York Times didn’t say where he had said that)

Note: Apparently he said that a month ago: (and probably didn’ mean that seriously)

    https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/450879-trump-jabs-at-democrats-says-they-might-change-party-name-to

this week, and accused Democrats of moving toward socialism.

“That’s become like the Socialist Party,” he said, quipping: “There’s a rumor the Democrats are going to change the name of the party from the ‘Democrat Party’ to the ‘Socialist Party.'”

The president did not elaborate on or substantiate his remark.

The New York TImes fact-checked that today:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/20/us/politics/trump-democrats-socialists.html

    WHAT MR. TRUMP SAID

“There’s a rumor the Democrats are going to change the name of the party from the ‘Democrat Party’ to the ‘Socialist Party.’”

Putting aside the fact that it is called the Democratic Party and stipulating that it is impossible to disprove a rumor that Mr. Trump may or may not have heard, no, the Democrats are not changing their name to the Socialist Party.

(I would say that if he heard anything like that it would have been a sarcastic comment. Except that it probably Donald Trump who was being sarcastic, on;y he had to dress it up as something somebody else said.)

The New York Times article went on say:

And there are few similarities between what Democrats are proposing and the types of outcomes Mr. Trump tries to link them to, especially when he invokes Venezuela and its economic and humanitarian crisis as a warning that socialism is a harbinger of catastrophe.

There are, of course, very different strains of socialism. To an immigrant from Cuba or Venezuela who fled countries with centrally planned economies and neighborhood spies who inform on dissenters to the government, socialism means a very different thing than to Mr. Sanders, who envisions a northern European-style social safety net that drastically increases public spending on health care, education and environmental protection…

    Sammy Finkelman (592d97)

  30. And it has to be very annoying to Lacy Clay and Sheila Jackson Lee to have their race card appropriated like that. Snorfle!

Media keeps saying the Jihad Squad is “non-white”… except for black Ms. Pressley, what “race” are the other three?

One is probably black (Ilhan Omar from Somalia), one would like to be considered non-white but the Census Bureau would disgree, and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is a (mainly) white Hispanic, who traces her ancestry to Spain.

This is how she describes herself:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/10/nyregion/ocasio-cortez-jewish.html

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, made the reveal on Sunday evening at a Jackson Heights synagogue in Queens, telling the crowd that “a very, very long time ago, generations and generations ago, my family consisted of Sephardic Jews.”

She dated her ancestry to those who had to flee Europe during the Spanish Inquisition more than 500 years ago, and sought refuge in the New World. “Some of those people landed in Puerto Rico,” she explained.

“As is the story of Puerto Rico, we are a people that are an amalgamation,” she said. “We are no one thing. We are black; we are indigenous; we are Spanish; we are European.”

    Sammy Finkelman (592d97)

  34. This is more relevant in Omar’s case, this is what her family’s patrons did:
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaaq_genocide?fbclid=IwAR2KSV8L6rqyI2tVIHnIeYsO4638bFBDhQRbjxnSJNgiXHJ0H43oLuRWbPA

The thing about “The Squad” is, to see and hear more of them is not to love them more.

“Yup, tribalism, bigotry, and hatred of those that are not “your people”, some of the common traits of the worst of humanity. That sounds about right, thank you.”

They’re baseline prerequisites for holding together any functional human society that doesn’t get overrun by ‘squads’ of opportunistic parasites. Also they’re the unifying features of moderate and swing voters, given how they fulfill drives even more basic than a political platform.

So as much as you may point and sputter, Trump is showing more qualified leadership by appealing to them than you are.
