Patterico's Pontifications

Saturday Night (Weird) Music

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:53 pm

Some odd tracks: some at weird speeds, some mashed up, and others changing minor keys to major, or vice versa.

Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” about 25% slower, sounds like a cool song by a male artist:

Whereas Bruuuuuuuce speeded up sounds like Dolly Parton:

Band on the Run mashed up with Imagine:

Hey Jude in a minor key:

Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” in a major key:

Major Scaled #1 : Metallica – “Nothing Else Majeur” from major scaled on Vimeo.

P.S. Y’all heard this cricket deal, right? I figure it’s a hoax. Any official word on that?

  1. Some people missed it with the costumes but Dolly Parton had a great songwriting talent.

  2. Very clever stuff. If you like these, check out “Imagine a Jump” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIOdvXE7kbI

As you might expect, it’s a mashup of the Beatles’ “Imagine” and Van Halen’s “Jump” and it works remarkably well IMHO.

Want a good laugh? In YouTube look up your favorite artist plus the word “shred” . . . it will likely lead you to videos with the legitimate video but cleverly dubbed-in audio which is VERY sub-par. Here’s an example I found looking under “Beach Boys shred” — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYc4DT18EJg And one of Celine Dion sounding like she NEVER sounded before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNhhXmXQ_bY

Eric Clapton was reportedly furious to find this one on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_E6fJTCKC0
    Hey Eric — it’s a joke!

  3. Best version of “Fire”

  4. Regarding the “cricket” story: read the comments. There is room to think that some of the stuff you hear has an overlay of a human voice. But not all of it. Even the stuff without a human voice has been manipulated and overlaid, track-wise.

Given your interest in recordings and their manipulation from times past, Patterico, you might enjoy looking into how the “cricket hymns” were made.

All I know is that it is interesting to hear. Ditto whale songs. But I am not implying anything mystical.

  5. This website says the human voice is by a Sioux opera singer named Bonnie Jo Hunt, but it also says much of the audio is actual crickets.

  6. THe opera singer is not on the manipulated cricket track making the rounds. But of COURSE the crickets are manipulated. They are slowed down and filled in. But it’s still crickets.
