Earthquake

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 2:43 pm

Short, sharp shock. Just now. Ran out of the house.

UPDATE: Preliminary report: a 2.7 earthquake, with an epicenter 5 miles south of Rancho Palos Verdes (the city where I live), at 2:42 p.m. That makes sense. It was just like the 3.0 we experienced in Marina del Rey days before Northridge: very quick and very sharp. That’s how they feel when they’re close — even if they’re small.

It was a sockpuppet-parody, not the real Intelliology. Note the spelling of the name. Wasn’t done by me, but my apologies for the confusion. I didn’t touch it because it wasn’t a serious attempt to impersonate someone or appear as a separate individual.

  15. Sockpuppet-parody works and I thought it was funny, but parody of sockpuppet-parody can be like walking into the middle of the 18th hour of “24” and asking “what’s happening?”.

Mullah nk states Chicago is not in danger so much, as over half the year women are almost dressed in Burkas, for all practical purposes, when they are out and about in the street anyway.

And that’s why you’ve never heard any fanatical mullahs voice any gripes about Eskimos.

  16. I am a little humor-deficient these days, I think. Not to mention inattentive. Please put up with me.

  17. MD,

Your comment reminded me of this.

MD in Philly – Speaking in generalities of course, I think Wisconsin is safer than Chicago. What is the difference between a woman from Wisconsin and a rhinoceros?

  20. nk – Now don’t start ripping into me in your humor deprived state because you have a relative from Wisconsin, mkay.

  21. Okk, daleyrocks, I’ll take the bait. What is the difference between a woman from Wisconsin and a rhinoceros?

I would think that it would be a much more pleasant experience with the former when the cheese is cut.

  23. UPDATE: Preliminary report: a 2.7 earthquake

2.7?! Those occur on a regular basis in this part of the world. I’d think only a newbie to witnessing and experiencing such an event (eg, an Easterner or Midwesterner recently relocated to California) would would want to post about it. A quake will have to be at least 4 to 5 to get my attention.

  24. My godson was a temporary cheesehead (Green Bay) but he has changed three residences since, looking to get farther and farther away from me, and he’ll be going to New York in the fall (Rensellear?) so no, I don’t care. But I did meet a very nice couple from Milwaukee at one of JD’s getogethers.

  27. First, the serious stuff (read carefully)

daleyrocks, have you been so unobservant or forgetful over the years to not remember that I am a proud Badger (even if we did look terrible in the Frozen Four finals), and that it is entirely possible my lovely wife is one of those precious ladies that you have so rudely verbally accosted?

Sir, if ever we meet over a beer summit, you shall have your choice between an epee’ or a foil to defend your illspoken words….

That is too ironic. I had in mind Inuits in their native lands of Alaska and such cold places where one is unlikely to find an Arab. The article does make sense, though I didn’t realize that politically Greenland is associated with Denmark.

This is the second time where my words have proven sadly ironic. Years ago we were having dinner with some friends, at the time all of us living in the “Badlands” of Philly. At the time things had not only been a bit stressful locally, but there was the occasional exacerbation of “bad news from all over the world”. So we sat and wondered where would be a good place to move where such trials were unlikely to follow. We decided on New Zealand, as we knew it was beautiful and we never heard any bad news from there. Within the next week there was a report of several deaths from conflict between the descendents of English colonists and the original inhabitants (Maori, I believe). Anyway, we took that as a bit of a slap in the face regarding our fantasy over finding the “perfect place for a peaceful existence”.

  28. 1. NEVER run out of the house or building…. its a good way to die. take cover inside until you get a good read on what’s going on.

    2. get with the program: ignore anything less then a five, except as a subject of conversation….”that was nothing, during the Northridge quake….”

i was in West LA and didn’t feel a thing.
