NCAA Basketball: Butler-Duke (Update: Duke Wins)

Duke may be the betting favorite but Butler may well be America’s favorite. Will it be Duke or Butler?

UPDATE: Duke wins 61-59 but Butler just barely missed a last second half-court shot. It doesn’t get much closer than this game was.

  1. I love a game with the leader changing as many times as this one.

  2. I’m cheering for Butler, but this is a great game whomever wins. This is how it should be played.

  3. Well, the best answer I know to that “or” question is:

    Yes.

  4. What’s the record number of lead changes in a tournament basketball game?

  5. It’s over and Duke won. What a game.

  6. Magnificent game. Duke may have won but Butler most certainly did not lose. A superb effort by all.

  7. Coach K is a class act, so it’s hard to begrudge him too much,

    but

    1. the big Duke guy (Z-something) should have fouled out for decking Howard with less than a minute, which would have negatively impacted Duke’s defense.

    and

    2. I think a flagrant foul could have been called on Duke on the Butler break-away. The announcer said it was clean, going for the ball, but he never touched the ball, he took him down by his right arm.

It was a great game, but it leaves a sour tatse when that obvious foul was not called.

  8. I’m not being a kindergarten teacher whose mantra is “No one ever loses” when I say that both teams were winners. They played hard and the outcome was in doubt until the very last second. Clean, hard sport–not a single thing to dislike about it.

  9. What a game. Duke won, Butler not only didn’t lose, they were an in-and-out from taking the victory. Well done to both teams.

  10. I don’t normally watch basketball, but this game sucked me in. That was excellent ball.

  11. I’m not a big BBall fan, but I usually watch March madness. The game last night was one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen in College BBall. I was pulling for Butler, but Duke was just a smidge better and they truly earned the title. Butler was awesome and I look forward to seeing Butler play next season. Plus the Butler mascot is just the coolest mascot evah!
