Axelrod Quote of the Day

[Guest post by DRJ]

David Axelrod in a C-SPAN interview taped yesterday:

—On the administration’s handling of accused terrorists:

“This isn’t new. We haven’t invested anybody with one more right than they had before we took office. And we’re actually not behaving any differently than the last administration did. Which raises the question: Is this about politics, or is it really about dealing with the issue at hand?”

Things must be pretty bad when the Obama Administration’s talking points are they are doing the same thing the Bush Administration did.

The link also addresses Axelrod’s response to last week’s report of a confrontation between Axelrod and Senator Al Franken over health care.

  3. When Bush was in office, the left claimed Rove ran the country. How do they feel about Axelrod running the country now?

  5. Stuart Smalley lecturing Sidney Falco – gotta love it. Two ignorant ideologues enter the Thunderdome – only one can exit.

The last administration – with all its faults – never Mirandized suspected enemy combatants and didn’t willfully choose to use our criminal justice system to bring them to justice.

  7. I can hear my mom now: “Oh, and if George Bush went and jumped off a cliff, would you do it, too?”

Like richard reid? Or John Walker Lindh?

  11. Yes, IMDW, I should’ve qualified that with an “after they determined that the appropriate course of action was military tribunals”.

The correct way to proceed is to try them as “enemy combatants”, not “criminals”. Perhaps the KSM show trial will convince you who has America’s interests – and the safety of her citizens – at heart.

BTW… several years ago (around the time your buddy JWL was taken into custody), I went to look at a collector car at a religious retreat near Pt. Reyes in Northern California with a friend of east Indian heritage. We stopped at a small mom n’ pop market in Ross along the way to get some refreshments, when the guy working the counter asked my friend Arvind if he knew that John Walker Lindh was from the area. Arvind replied that yes, he was aware of that. The fellow then proceeded to tell Arvind that he thought Lindh was just a confused young man who should be shown mercy and then made the mistake of asking Arvind what he thought would be appropriate justice for Lindh. Arvind proceeded to tell counter guy that he thought Lindh should be tried, convicted, hanged as a traitor, then shot, then burned.

I will never forget the look on counter guy’s face, as we strolled out of the store.

A mistake, not a precedent, but if the CIC wants to continue his record of voting present and treating the war on terror as a criminal matter I say go for it. It’s winning strategy with the American voters.
