That Democrat Respect for the Will of the People

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 7:19 am

David Gregory says on Twitter:

Sr Obama adviser: no way we walk away from health care at this point. His rationale? We would “get all the pain and none of the gain.”

He adds:

Dem aide tells me WH must decide whether to play hardball on seating of Brown. Sen Webb says no hc votes until he’s seated.

These are both variants on ignoring the will of the people. One is just more blatant than the other.

Let’s just hope they haven’t seen “all the pain” quite yet.

  1. Gain? They’ve had gain?

God, PLEASE dems… PLEASE keep on trying to force this abomination through. You have no idea how much I enjoy that idea.

  2. I am a registered Dem., and I like Martha, she is a hard working AG, doing her job, Fair and honest. I think she is a good person. With that said, I voted for Scott Brown. Why? Barack Obama.Needless to say more

  3. You know, these characters in charge need to read Jonah Goldberg’s book. Because they really seem to think that laws and rules are to be circumvented or ignored to get what they want.

And the funny part, of course, is how those same people accused GWB of that sort of thing.

    Projection, yet again.

  4. Big talk from the advisor but I doubt they will force anything with people like Franks and Webb saying it is not going to happen.
If Obama were a master politician in the vein of Bill Clinton he would make a pretty speech in which he acknowledged that the people have spoken and getting it right is better than getting anything fast. The media would declare him brilliant and satisfy some of the independents and blue dogs who need political cover.
So far he has demonstrated an ego that doesn’t make that a likely option.

  5. I’m now a just bit more hopeful (in a changy sort of way)that the RINO’s will read the tea leaves better than the boy genius in the White House. The voters in Massasneezettes sent a resounding “Hell, NO!”

Listen up RINO’s. They are talking to you too.

  6. Obama won’t back down for a while. Older and more seasoned pols get it – like Franks. (spitspitspit)

I do hope they keep going full blast. The pols that won’t sacrifice power aren’t going to have any of it and the one who will are going to be gone.

  7. Will Obama have a ‘health’ problem now?

  8. WH must decide whether to play hardball on seating of Brown

Does the arrogance of these people know any bounds?

VL’s spitspitspit cracked me up 😉

  9. VoiceofReason2, more than a speech Obama needs to go on a sincere domestic apology tour (akin to his foreign apology tours) if he wants to save even a scintilla of respect for himself along with his party and his presidency. But, you’re right. His ego will never allow him to be humble enough to do it.

Last night I thought that the Dem leadership would be savvy and (with well hidden relief) they would “reluctantly” use the Brown victory as a perfect out to drop HealthInsurance reform or at least take it back to the drawing board. Based on what the WH is saying this morning it appears there is simply no limit to how many people he is willing to take down with him.

  11. If it waddles, has feathers, and quacks:

Democrats have one last opportunity to change course. If they continue to ignore the voters, Scott Brown’s victory means that Barack Obama is now a lame duck.

  12. “These are both variants on ignoring the will of the people.”

Clearly the 110K votes creating a 59-41 democratic majority has to be respected. The only question is how.

  16. I can’t believe both Hoyer and Obama had the tiny balls to claim that voter anger is due to us still being mad at GWB and because they are ramming their crap sandwich bills through fast enough.

WTF? They are not listening, they are deaf, dumb and blind to us.

    We will be entertained!!!

  17. You’re operating under the assumption that they both had gonads to begin with, Vivian.

    Dmac (539341)

  18. I know, Dmac, I know. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went with tiny. Microscopic it shoulda been.

Also, that should have been “AREN’T” ramming their crap through.

  23. “All” of the pain?

Pretty obvious that no one in the WH is standing for reelection in 10 months.

They pass this bill now, the pain meter will go way way up.

They need to learn a lesson from Bill Clinton and start talking about school uniforms rather than a left-wing “progressive” agenda.

  24. #6 I have to say it, with apologies to all, but i cant let one hang over the plate like this without taking a swing.

Older and more seasoned pols get it – like Franks. (spitspitspit)

Somehow, I doubt Franks is a spitter.

    thatguy (eb09ed)

  25. Not sure they have 51 votes left in the Senate to pass this thing, let alone 60. And certainly not 218 in the House.

Let them try: Still no “gain”, but more pain!

    Kevin Murphy (3c3db0)

  26. @#$% I just ate lunch, and you had to go and type that.

    Corwin (ea9428)

  27. Unbelievable. The big question last night was is he a true believer or a politician. Today we know the answer: true believer.

Keep f***ing that socialist chicken, Barack. Kill it off for another generation.

I ask again, why was it evil to have Karl Rove in the WH but not David Axelrod? Why is a campaign manager the policy spokesman of the WH?

    Patricia (b05e7f)

  28. This is music to the ears of those who want more GOP electoral victories at any cost, but it’s not music to my ears.

That the WH would have any notion of ‘playing hardball’ shows that even if they don’t, it’s because they couldn’t get away with it. They actually would if they could, even though the people of Mass have spoken on who their Senator is.

It’s extremely opposite to what Democrats ought to believe. The people have rejected health care, and they should just honor that. Obama would leap in popularity if his SOTU acknowledged his mistakes and plotted a new course that would be transparent, fiscally unbloated, and cut taxes for job makers. Then again, Obama isn’t ready to lead. When Clinton worked with the GOP on things, or when W managed to get legislation passed with Ted Kennedy’s support, it was because those men were pragmatic leaders.

    Obama simply is no leader.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  29. The snobbishness and elitism of the hard-core Democratic voter cannot be overstated.

Here’s a PO’ed Dem from another site explaining what went wrong. Those stupid ethnic blue-collar people can’t be trusted.

What with the massive ethnic blue collar citizens [Massachusetts] has managed to be blue only with the input of, shall I say, a large portion of better educated/informed citizenry. What results is the pendulum swing of supporters when they do not see their specific needs becoming deeds – shall we say immediately.

This is my state and the Lowell, South Boston, Dorchester, etc population get mad quick and never are able to calculate the result farther in the future than next week. A little more civic studies, as there used to be in this city, would have them voting for Coakley just to give Obama the support he needs.

    Subotai (f3fd60)

  30. The dude who lamented that at this point, it’s all pain with no gain reflects well the attitude I would have wee I in the Dem leadership. Reid knows he is done. So do dozens of Reps and at least three other Senators. At this point, they may as well advance their statist agenda while they can. What do they have to lose, exactly?

For at least a while, these corruptocrats are dangerous as a mortally wounded animal is. This ain’t over.

    Ed from SFV (657933)

  31. #29, LOL at Patricia’s chicken comment.

This loss is exactly what Democrats deserve. When Ted Kennedy died, Massachusetts law required a special election to replace him. It was a relatively new rule put in place in 2004 when Democrat John Kerry was running for President. Previous Massachusetts law allowed the governor to appoint a temporary replacement till a special election could be held.

However, the law had been changed to make sure then Republican Governor Mitt Romney could not appoint an interim successor had Kerry won the Presidency in 2004.

But what seemed like a good idea back in 2004 didn’t work for Democrats in 2009. Obama couldn’t wait months for a special election, healthcare was on the table, it was Kennedy’s signature issue, and a reliable Democrat Senatorial vote was needed in DC immediately.

So, while at Kennedy’s funeral Obama convinced Massachusetts Democrat Governor Patrick to force a flip-flop bill through the Bay State legislature which would allow him to immediately appoint a replacement. However, the deal was so transparently self-serving, contradictory, and unpopular that Governor Patrick was unable to get the necessary 2/3rds votes.

Governor Patrick then cynically declared an “emergency” so he could circumvent the 2/3rds requirement, and pass the bill with a simple majority.

The legislative impediments to Democrat ambitions finally removed, Patrick appointed Kennedy family approved Paul Kirk to fill the former Senator’s position. Kirk went off the DC with clear instructions to support Obamacare and follow Harry Reid’s directions. The whole sorry manipulation was a disgrace and an embarrassment to honest citizens of Massachusetts.

Yesterday, Bay State voters had the opportunity to show their displeasure at the corrupt shenanigans of high handed Democrats, and the many angry and disillusioned chickens loose in Massachusetts finally had a place to roost.
