That Hurts

Washington Redskins back-up running back Ladell Betts played a preseason game with the wrong name on his jersey — Bettis. Betts had this response:

“Actually, I do like Jerome Bettis, but I don’t prefer to have his name on my back,” he said. “I wasn’t upset or anything. I think the equipment people felt bad, but I wasn’t mad at them.”

Betts is starting his eighth year with the Redskins.

  1. Barack Obama ran a whole presidential campaign wearing a label what said moderate.

  3. DRJ,

I’ve been told that men football fans fantasize about being football players and women football fans fantasize about being football team owners. What is your opinion?

  4. I don’t know about all women but I used to dream of playing football, and I did play neighborhood ball until I was about 12 and my family moved to another town. Two of the boys I played with went on to start for Texas Tech.

  5. On second thought, that sounds kind of bad for Texas Tech but those boys grew up to be very big, very good football players.

  6. Ladell Betts is a pretty good fellow, I suspect. Hard worker, plays even harder, and apparently is no prima donna.

My Colts are going to be good good good.

  7. As a graduate of Iowa STATE University, I am contractually bound to consider football & basketball players from the University of Iowa to be toothless morons who bounce from bar fight to bar fight and sexually assault any women who get too close to them between said fights.

However; with all that considered, I do think that Ladell Betts appears to be a really good guy without any of the usual ego issues you see in the NFL. JD, since you mention the Colts, their tight end Dallas Clark was a college teammate of Mr. Betts and he also appears to be the same sort of “stand up guy”.

Maybe I like these two guys because they never managed to beat the ISU football team during their tenure at Iowa? Naaaaah, that can’t be the reason, can it?

  8. Russ – Dallas is a great guy, as is Bob Sanders. Dallas used to live right up the road, and Bob lives in the next subdivision. Great guys, both.

  9. Here’s a photo of three members of the University of West Virginia basketball team just after winning the 2007 National Invitational Tournament at Madison Square Garden. Note carefully how the name of their school is spelled on their championship T-shirts.
