  1. Hey, is that Eiger in the background?

  2. What, do you think I was lying in the post? 🙂

  3. Switzerland is a beautiful country. My parents took us on the Europe on 5-10$ a day tour in 1973. We drove all around Europe for a month and loved it. My Dad is afraid of heights and while driving the mountains in Switzerland was pretty stressed. My brother had gotten one of those wooden bird whistles for a souvenir and started tooting it while going up a particularly steep grade. I thought Dad was going to throw the whistle out the window!

  4. MY BRIDE AND I DID A TOUR OF EUROPE IN 1969, BEFORE MY DEPARTURE FOR VIETNAM. WE SPENT 3 DAYS IN LAUTERBRUNNEN AT THE HOTEL STAUBACH WHERE A ROOM & 2 MEALS A DAY COST $15. THIS WAS BEFORE THE DOLLAR WAS ALLOWED TO FLOAT.

  5. If you look real close, you can see Clint Eastwood leading a party up the mountain…..

  6. I’ve been to Bernese Oberland, too, but we stayed in a hotel in Wengen. Any particular reason you decided to stay in a valley hotel? From your pix I wish we had spent more time down there. BTW I thought the train ride/visit up to the Jungfraujoch was a ripoff. Hike from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg was SPECTACULAR; your kids might have been a little young for that, though. Thanks for bringing back some great memories!

  7. And here I feel lucky if I can just make it to the Jersey shore.

  8. Jungfraujoch wasn’t all that spectacular, I agree – perhaps only for the snow-trekking to that building about 450m from the exit at the top. Still, most of the beautiful shots we took were during hiking from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg, then from First to Lake Bachalsee – the winding, snake route up there leads to the lake – and the scenery is to die for.

  9. Hey, your vacation series has been a delight. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

My wife is lobbying for Europe to be our next vacation destination. If I let her see your pictures, that would clinch it. *grin*
