Ted Cruz Sings Trump’s Praises

While recent polls show Ted Cruz in a seriously tight race with challenger Rep. Beto O’Rourke for his Senate seat, the Senator is also in the news for having penned a blurb for TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” edition. Surprisingly, the subject was none other than… President Donald Trump:
President Trump is a flash-bang grenade thrown into Washington by the forgotten men and women of America. The fact that his first year as Commander in Chief disoriented and distressed members of the media and political establishment is not a bug but a feature.
The same cultural safe spaces that blinkered coastal elites to candidate Trump’s popularity have rendered them blind to President Trump’s achievements on behalf of ordinary Americans. While pundits obsessed over tweets, he worked with Congress to cut taxes for struggling families. While wealthy celebrities announced that they would flee the country, he fought to bring back jobs and industries to our shores. While talking heads predicted Armageddon, President Trump’s strong stand against North Korea put Kim Jong Un back on his heels.
President Trump is doing what he was elected to do: disrupt the status quo. That scares the heck out of those who have controlled Washington for decades, but for millions of Americans, their confusion is great fun to watch.
In spite of the ugliness that Trump dished out to Cruz and his family during the campaign, Cruz nonetheless ended up endorsing Trump in the election (without Trump having made any public apologies). So at this point in time, nothing Cruz says about Trump should really come as a surprise. Even so, this was for me.
PS: Of course, given that TIME’s “Leaders” list includes the President of the United States, Prince Harry’s fiancee, actress Meghan Markle, a couple of talk show hosts and Sean Hannity sort of speaks volumes…

Cruz can certainly say Trump is a lying immoral bully during the campaign, and then a year later applaud Trump’s accomplishments as if he thinks Trump is swell. Maybe he believes everything he said about Trump, but it doesn’t make Cruz seem realistic to me. It makes Cruz seem manipulative and devious because he will change how he presents his opinions depending on his political needs — something he can ill afford to highlight if he wants to be thought of as principled and trustworthy.
That may only matter to some Texans, but I think there are Texans who notice and care. We’ll see how many next November — maybe not enough to make Cruz lose the election, but I suspect his home state Presidential financing has taken a hit.

Is he another level, or just a dial turned up to 11? Looking at it another way, he is able to get people to listen to what he says, which is an asset usually. If I have any real problem with Trump is that he’s incompetent as a politician and a boor. Own goals, unforced errors, opportunities missed with abandon. I would do a better job, and that SCARES me.

Again, DRJ, he has different principles. In a two-party system, putting party before self is NOT unprincipled. It’s a realistic appraisal of the political state of affairs and what you call “manipulative and devious” he would call “rational” and “smart.”
Unlike you or me, he IS a politician, and therefore political needs mean more to him. I’m an engineer, so to me numbers and physics are more important than to the average person, and if I were to ignore them — for any reason — I would be unprincipled. FOr Cruz to ignore political reality would be an equal affront to his trade.

This is extraordinarily radical. Christian orthodoxy is simple — regardless of a person’s desires (their “orientation”), the standard of right conduct is crystal clear. Sex is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman. When it comes to “gender expression,” there is no difference between “sex” and “gender,” and the Christian response to gender dysphoria is compassion and treatment, not indulgence and surgical mutilation.
Put another way, there is a fundamental difference between temptation and sin. California law would intrude directly on this teaching by prohibiting even the argument that regardless of sexual desire, a person’s sexual behavior should conform to Biblical standards.

The anniversary of the Doolittle Raid on Japan was Wednesday, when the Japanese PM was at Mar-a-Lago watching Trump cheat at golf. Mar-a-Lago is across the state from Florida’s Eglin Auxiliary Field, where Doolittle’s men practiced B-25 take-offs from a runway with a painted box the size of an aircraft carrier’s flight deck.
The Hornet carried the 16 B-25’s, with the carrier Enterprise providing air support. Surprise was essential because loss of either carrier would have been catastrophic. The raiders had to take off 200 miles farther from Japan than planned when the task force was spotted by a small Japanese vessel, giving them even less fuel to reach airfields in China after dropping their bombs.
A couple days late, but worth remembering the ballsy aviators who were brave enough to volunteer for a virtual suicide mission that raised morale in the dark months after Pearl Harbor, and may have goaded the Japanese into launching their next offensives prematurely. In the next six weeks, the US won victories at Coral Sea and Midway that turned the tide of the war against Japan for good.
Out of the 80 men who took off and bombed Japan on April 18, 3 were KIA and 4 more died in Japanese captivity (one was starved to death, three others were executed).
One survivor of the raid, Doolittle’s co-pilot Col. Richard E. Cole, is still alive (age 102). /salute

This is extraordinarily radical. Christian orthodoxy is simple — regardless of a person’s desires (their “orientation”), the standard of right conduct is crystal clear. Sex is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman. When it comes to “gender expression,” there is no difference between “sex” and “gender,” and the Christian response to gender dysphoria is compassion and treatment, not indulgence and surgical mutilation.
Put another way, there is a fundamental difference between temptation and sin. California law would intrude directly on this teaching by prohibiting even the argument that regardless of sexual desire, a person’s sexual behavior should conform to Biblical standards.

In other words, selling a product that doesn’t do what it is advertised to do, and is harmful to the person using it.
The Bible is not marketed or sold as a sexual-orientation changing product or service, ergo, it would not fall under the law.
Religious counseling or sermons, which are not advertised or offered for sale as commercial activity, would also not fall under the law.
If a church (or anyone else) said “pay us $100 and we’ll make your gay child straight”, that would fall under the law and be illegal.
If a church (or anyone else) said “pay us $100 and we’ll resurrect your dead grandmother,” that too would be fradulent and illegal.
There is no evidence that a person’s sexual orientation can be changed, anymore than there is evidence that dead people can be resurrected on demand.

Allowing the repatriation of money at reasonable tax rates is fueling the stock market, which is a leading economic indicator. I expect 5% growth over the next several years, maybe more.
The tariffs are quite a different thing, aimed at various purposes. There are the cynical steel tariffs, aimed at keeping a few Senate seats. There are the tariffs targeted at China, aimed at getting them to change BEHAVIOR, which is an entirely different thing. Note also that China has no good way to respond — slapping tariffs on commodities is useless. Something they have recently discovered, and are now attempting to change untargeted behavior, hoping to avoid the major change (not stealing patents).

It’s not virtue, but it is a reasonable tactic to avoid casting a vote for someone you despise, even if you despise them a bit less than the other choice.
Why? Because at times NONE OF THE ABOVE is a valid message. The 19% who voted for Perot in 1992 were not “throwing away their vote”, they were saying that deficits were unacceptable. And shortly thereafter the budget was (briefly) balanced and a number of reforms occurred (welfare and farm subsidies to name two).
It’s really not hard to see why “NONE OF THE ABOVE” was an attractive choice in 2016. TERRIBLE candidates on both sides. On a scale of 1 to 10, the better of them was, MAYBE, a “3”.

There are countless psychiatric patients whose sense of sexual orientation is, at best, confused. Their sexual behavior is influenced by things unrelated to any organic preference, and without therapy they might continue in a pathology that could be treated. This cuts both ways, btw.
This law would likely prevent psychiatrists from offering their services to, or continuing to treat, such patients.

They have this need to inject guesses (as though they are facts) endlessly, and a need to ignore facts as ‘fake.’ It’s a very insecure way to be, and I question why anyone remains a republican. The democrats won their lawsuit against the republicans in Watergate, and then the democrats did many of those same sins over again. All the way up to Lois Lerner, we saw ruthless democrats violating our rights. But Trump’s campaign benefited greatly from russian exposure of dirt about Hillary. Many republicans cheer this, and I actually get that idea, but it’s not that unlike Watergate and the lawsuit offers some interesting problems for the GOP today.

The 1992 recession was due to the end of the Cold War as the aerospace industry retrenched in 1990-91. I know this because it was a mild recession most places, but in the place I lived (Southern California) it was deep and lasted until ’95. At the end about 6 aerospace companies that used to be based in SoCal were merged and/or moved to Atlanta. Los Angeles, which had been a two-industry town was now a one-industry town. And the leftward drift sped up.
But it had NOTHING to do with Reaganomics.
The Long Boom that started in 1982 lasted until 1999, and crashed mainly because Clinton goosed the economy to get his balanced budget. The dot-com boom was enabled by Reagan’s freeing of capital. It wasn’t until the dot-com crash that Reaganomics had its first serious test.

When people get the care that the Bush’s obviously gave, the decline is prolonged. I am not sure it is a blessing, as the body can take a long time to shut down, system by system, with the quality of life long gone. Even when all but palliative drugs are withheld, a person who was strong in life like Barbara Bush (or my mom) has a lot of reserves to spend.

When you heat it it releases the sulfur and becomes liquid mercury. You can mix it with sulfur and convert it back. Leeches, the insect, and other forms of leeching are still used in medicine. I don’t know if they are generally accepted in the medical community as a treatment for cancer to suck out the blood which nourishes cancerous tumors. Although there are other treatments (maybe still only experimental) which purport to do that — deprive a tumor of blood and nutrients.
In my estimation, the answer to your broader question is yes. A doctor may try experimental and as yet unproven treatments if he follows the protocols and fully informs the patients. It’s done all the time, with both procedures and drugs. And they do advertise for patients to participate in the studies.
