Jake Tapper: An Actual Reporter Explains Grubergate Effectively (Video)

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 8:04 pm

What’s this? He actually thinks it’s a real story, explains why effectively, doesn’t pull any punches — yet is not a GOP shill? Just an honest reporter?

What??

Jake Tapper deserves our thanks.

UPDATE: Interesting that Tapper uses the term “ObamaCare” in the video (three times, by my count). Remember when he banned the term from his blog?

  1. Watch it. Yeah, it has those little editing tricks that I guess they think are supposed to make video more compelling — the side shot, the throbbing music throughout, etc. . . but it’s really well done, with clips I had heard about but had not seen (like Robert Gibbs mouthing the lie about taxing insurance companies, directly contrasted with Gruber bragging about it).

    Good stuff.

  2. even the intrepidly delusional Mitt Romney knows better than to run again after this, yes?

    Yes?

    I mean one would hope

    Yeah I don’t know

  3. Agreed. The content is wonderful, especially the juxtaposition of conflicting statements by the various people involved,
but yes, stylistically with the video editing,
    whatever they think works best.

  7. It’s so hard to understand. I mean, we all knew Obama, Pelosi and Reid were LYING thru their cake holes. Then this LISP-O-MATIC, libtard Groooobie Von Grooooober appears on the scene, lying and lisping, lisping and lying and GETTING PAID. WTF is wrong with us?? This schitt is so easy. We debate our own azz-raping. Obama and his ILK are sick lying freaks. Is that hard to understand?

  8. How do I say this without being filtered? Let me try it this way.

Everyone on the right knew everything about Obamacare was a lie. My friends on the left simply do not care. They are not on the same wavelength. What they wanted has come to pass and argument against such is invalid. Debate is no longer an option.

Tapper is late to the game, bless his heart. He passed relevance a long time ago and trying to make up now is akin to losing your shoe at the start of a footrace.

So what do you do when the newly elected Congress has already given up?

I know what Aggies do. I also know they always lose when it matters. However, the fight counts. You always fight.

  9. Ten years of covering for Obama, Tapper does one honest story and he’s a hero?

Sorry, no sale. Glad there are cracks in the cover-up, but nobody should get high-fives for just doing their job unless they are SEALs or something.

  10. Could do without the music in the video.

  11. Ten years of covering for Obama, Tapper does one honest story and he’s a hero?

Huh? Tapper was frequently the only tough questioner in the White House Press Corps.

  12. Only a moron with an iq of 68 or less would not “GET IT”. Obama is a PSYCHOLOGICALLY FUXED UP LOSER and FRAUD. Only a clown, could miss this fact.

    Gus (7cc192)

  13. I don’t blame Estragon. I had the same impression of Tapper when he was at ABC. Only in retrospect did I consider that he was being Atkissoned.

    Patterico (9c670f)

  16. PATTERICO. Obama has called OBAMACARE……OBAMACARE. THE LYING JUGEARED LIAR IN CHIEF, has embraced the term OBAMACARE. Why would it be wrong for anyone else to do so?? Obama embraced the term OBAMACARE, because OBAMA is a NARCISSIST. Obama ENJOYED the idea that OBAMACARE was in reference to HIMSELF. Obama is EASILY EXPLAINED. He is a NARCISSIST and an ASS.

    Gus (7cc192)

  19. I guess it’s not enough that someone capable made a good video and told the truth.

The messenger is more important than the message to some people.

  20. Better late than never, but where was Tapper when it counted. Was he asleep? Or was he a victim of the strange trained incapacity to see beyond the interests of the Democrat Party that seems to afflict so many members of his profession? Where was the evidence of Tapper’s integrity, his commitment to truth and honesty, his obligation to inform his readers when ObamaCare was before Congress?

The lies were transparent, ObamaCare was obviously a massive fraud, anyone with open eyes and the brains of a crab apple could see the concept was unworkable and the math was bogus, a neon tilt sign might as well have been blinking off and on for months on end. Wasn’t Tapper at least curious why the bill was passed without a single GOP vote?

How about today? Is Tapper willing to denounce the racists out to lynch Officer Wilson? That would show courage in the face of another massive attempt by Obama and his crooked Justice Department to substitute an insane narrative for an obvious truth. Maybe actually enforce the rule of law instead of undermining it, maybe even stand up and confront the perverse motives of the racist lynch mob.

Or, how about Obama’s obvious determination to put his illegal immigration agenda above the Constitutional limits on the Executive Branch. That’s a clear betrayal of his oath of office. Will we have to wait 18 months before Tapper makes up his mind to go public on that outrage?

    ropelight (fd09e4)

  21. Tapper’s fair.
He did get his head handed to him by former SEAL and author of the book “Lone Survivor” Marcus Luttrell (always identifies himself as Texan first) for using the words “hopeless” regarding their battle and “senseless” regarding the deaths of his unit and the deaths of the men who came to rescue.

Luttrell points out here that you don’t lose until you are dead
“Luttrell countered that “hopelessness really never came into it…. Because there was never a point where we just felt like we were hopelessly lost or anything like that. We never gave up. We never felt like we were losing until we were actually dead.”

Tapper meant no disrespect, but used words that lead towards surrender or abandoning the mission… words a warrior of Luttrell’s stature do not use.

I look forward to watching the GOP fight Obama… oh wait, Christie told them to compromise. That sounds like advice from a guy who thinks that is the ticket to his winning in 2016, not a guy who wants the GOP to fight.
There is a scene in Braveheart where the nobles want to negotiate and William Wallace rides off to go pick a fight.
My guess is Cruz picks a fight and McCain and Lindsey will back stab him.

  23. Patterico,

I like Tapper too, but he only looks as good as we think he looks in comparison to all the others. If we had a real press that was something resembling unbiased, he might qualify in the middle of the pack.

I also noted the way he ended with his mention that Republicans now control both houses. There was (to me at least) a tonal cringe in that that made me think he really isn’t happy about that.

What I take away is he thinks “this could be bad” because of the tactics used to pass this bill.

Meanwhile, most of us here are thinking “this could be good. Finally.”

Of course, that could be my own bias talking. At this point I am indeed biased against the press as a whole. It seems a bit much to hope some individuals still maintain integrity in an environment where that has to be a handicap.

    Dan (00fc90)

  24. Patterico, I think that what Tapper is trying to do is follow the “hip, cool” style of “reporting” that works so well with LIV. Think Jon Stewart. And I know LOTS of voting age students who think that man’s word is gospel.

I have followed Tapper’s work for years. Sure, I suspect he is an old skool Democrat. But unlike most of the kneepad media, he understands that he has to make an effort to be fair. And I know from several interviews with him I have seen is that he is increasingly unhappy with the press.

This is his effort to speak out.

And I can say that without caps lock and spitting at the screen.

Support Tapper’s efforts. We need that…and much, much more.

  26. TAAAAAPPPPPPEEEERRRRRRRRrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  27. Narciso, the problem is the progressive Left’s arrogance. They are very loathe to admit that they were wrong, and in fact were rubes to be taken advantage of. They are the smart people!

Remember the perhaps apocryphal story about Vietnam? “We lost Cronkite”? It may turn into that with Stewart.

These characters in the White House really and truly aren’t pros. And that may well be a good thing, come to think of it.

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  28. Some of the arrogance, dishonesty and corruption of Obama can be laid at the doorstep of that rather substantial part of the American public that in 2013 blamed the Republicans far more than President “Goddamn America” for the sequester, or that even today blames George W Bush instead of Jeremiah Wright’s buddy for ongoing economic weakness. Or who think it’s perfectly fine if Obama runs roughshod over Congress and legalizes the “undocumented.”

Look at your fellow squishes (hello, Chris Christie!) and the liberals all around you (certainly if you reside in blue-state land) to see who are contributing to this nation’s erosion and decline.

Three names that I can hardly
    stand to hear
    Obama Joe Biden
and one more Grube who isn’t here
I can hear some people talking
    how the cupboard’s getting bare
    And that noxious legislation
    called Barack Obamacare

    [Chorus:]
    and they’re going insane
and they’re laughing at the peoples’ pain
    we feek so alone
honey when they gonna send him home
bad healthcare and a vile, smug professor
    my friends
    stompin’ on the peoples’ dreams
    By videos many with a

  33. Tapper pulled a couple of punches. He could have included video of Obola, et al, naming Gruber as an important part of the team that put together Obolacare. This would have condemned Obola as a liar with his own words.

Of course it could be claimed that Obola is just a teleprompter reader, and he doesn’t remember what he says 15 minutes after he’s said it. Ergo, he isn’t a sociopathic liar. But some of the video I’ve seen has him walking around, community organizer style, praising Gruber. The internet is wonderful.

PS- Thanks for explaining the “net neutrality” issue with your example of server bandwidth in today’s issue.

WHAT? Now it’s OKAY to use the term OBAMACARE????

    That was true in 2012.

Transcript of the first Presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney October 3, 2012

ROMNEY:…. What things would I cut from spending?

Well, first of all, I will eliminate all programs by this test, if they don’t pass it: Is the program so critical it’s worth borrowing money from China to pay for it? And if not, I’ll get rid of it. Obamacare’s on my list.

I apologize, Mr. President. I use that term with all respect, by the way.

    OBAMA: I like it.

ROMNEY: Good. OK, good. So I’ll get rid of that.

  36. Tapper: liberal lemming to the end. We knew the Democrats were lying when they opened their mouths, so this meek admission that you’ve noticed an Obama lie is way late. It’s not the lying that angers Us, Jake-boy. It’s a total failure to protect and defend Our sovereign borders from invaders. It’s the Soviet Union-style systems imposed on Us in the alphabet of government agencies and their Gestapo tactics. It’s the arrogance of an imperial President, stomping his angry Marxist feet on the Constitution and on Our freedoms. It’s Obama’s dozens of Czars exercising unConstitutional powers. It’s TheRaceCard™ and the incessant charges of racism being used to hammer white people into submitting to outrageous demands from TheBlackGrievanceIndustry™ (see Trayvon™/GentleGiant™/HandsUpDon’tShoot™). It’s seeing citizens being targeted and abused by multiple government authorities for daring to speak-out against this lawless regime and its Emperor. It’s seeing the Fourth Estate, a supposedly-honest media, become an open and unapologetic Fifth Column, subverting the nation’s laws, culture, and information system with never-ending socialist propaganda and lies. It’s seeing America become not America. You’re still a liberal tool, Jake Tapper.

  37. I always wonder about these guys. Doesn’t he have to live in the resulting commie shhole as the rest of us when he cheerleads for Democrats?

So now he peeps up the tiniest bit while ducking behind the ironing board in the linen closet, but only when Obama threatens to impinge upon news service internet activities.

That’s not standing up for justice in my book.
