Capitalism: Outliving Its Usefulness

Filed under: General — Dana @ 9:57 pm

[guest post by Dana]

In case you didn’t know, liberals are on a mission to see capitalism abolished. Apparently it has outlived its usefulness.

Inequality, unemployment, financial crises, and environmental devestation [sic], all point toward one inevitable conclusion: we must get rid of capitalism, once and for all.

Judging by the number of signatures, I think we’ll be able to dodge a bullet. Whew!

  3. what’s funny is that those idiots think they would survive the results.

  5. To paraphrase G.K. Chesterton, the capitalist ideal of a free-market system has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and never tried.

  6. I’m tempted to sign this one. I think it would be a hoot if it went over the top, just to see how the White House responded to it.

  11. Yes, let’s have the State own all modes of production. Obama can then initiate a “Great Leap Forward” (aka “Stimulus Part 2”) and a Stalinist collectivization plan; by melding the best ideas of Mao and Stalin, perhaps a lofty death toll of 60 million people could be attained. This would certainly have the beneficial effect of lowering the unemployment rate, at the very least. Not to mention, reducing the waiting times to see doctors under Pandoracare health plans.

The idiocy of these Leftists never ceases to amaze. The nauseating hypocrisy of their myopic agitation, of course, is that they are enjoying the fruits of capitalism and free markets in terms of the extraordinary comfort and convenience of their everyday lives, not to mention having the freedom to air their (asinine) views with unabashed arrogance. Yet, they persist in advocating for the demise of capitalism under some rallying cry, such as the wonderfully vacuous and nebulous “social justice,” or, the latest catchphrase du jour, “income inequality.”

    It’s become almost tiresome, attempting to keep track of the latest Leftist screed which waxes rhapsodic about the alleged wonders of communism (recent examples by the same deluded individual appeared in Rolling Stone and Salon;
    http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/five-economic-reforms-millennials-should-be-fighting-for-20140103
http://www.salon.com/2014/02/02/why_youre_wrong_about_communism_7_huge_misconceptions_about_it_and_capitalism/). Liberals’ naive romanticization of apparatchiks’ centralized planning schemes and alleged statist “benevolence” has a long history, going back to the deluded idealism of many naive Americans with respect to the Russian Revolution. These people truly believed that the Bolsheviks would turn the Soviet Union into a workers’ paradise. Some American workers believed in this notion so fervently that they emigrated to the Soviet Union to experience firsthand the wonders of this new workers’ utopia. And, indeed, at first, life was good in their adopted homeland, living up to the image painted by their idealistic aspirations and visualizations — until paranoid Uncle Joe decided that these dupes had outlived their propaganda value, and quickly sent them off to die in the gulags.

Sadly, after almost one hundred years of ample historical evidence as to socialism/communism/statism’s inherent flaws and a tally of hundreds of millions killed, tortured, imprisoned, impoverished (intellectually and fiscally) and oppressed under its implementation as a governing philosophy in many countries, the allure of that thoroughly discredited and odious ideology still proves to be too strong for feeble-minded liberals to resist, especially when it is marketed by a consummate hustler and glib politician/hustler possessing the gifts of greasy charm, crass (but, nonetheless seductive) demagoguery and a carefully cultivated cult of personality (See “Barack Obama”).

These liberals who denigrate capitalism deserve dunce caps to go along with their Leftist merit badges. I also wish I could send them to a lengthy stay in a Soviet-era or North Korean gulag, so that they might experience firsthand the bitter fruits that are
reaped from the thoroughly discredited and odious ideology that they naively promote. These imbeciles still fail to grasp the most glaring and obvious lessons of history, even as they enjoy the fruits of a free and prosperous capitalist society which, ironically, provides them with a safe environment from which they can blithely spew their Leftist ramblings (and in which they can often earn substantial lucre doing so).

What does it say about Americans in the current era, that, instead of being ostracized and ridiculed for the deluded dupes that they are, unabashed and unrepentant neo-communists in the media are given a multitude of platforms from which to spew their prattle, while those who are situated in politics ascend to the highest levels of government? This trend bodes ill for the country, and for the future.

You could take comfort in the fact their aren’t many signatures. On the other hand, the hordes of Karl Marx’s useful idiots who would sign it just aren’t bright enough to find this online petition without an Obamacare navigator.

You know, the Occupy! crowd who drove the Mini Cooper convertibles daddy bought them all through college, who graduated and went to camp out on wall street in their expensive REI sleeping bags and tweeted on their iPhones or used their $5k laptops to post to facebook about how much they hate corporations.

  15. We like security. Some people find it in trust in God, or at least some sort of destiny that rewards goodness in the end, or that there will be enough good people around to outweigh the bad.

If one doesn’t have any of that, then the next option is “the government” will make everything all right. There is little evidence that this works in the long run, but it is about the only substitute that I can see if one rejects the first option. (Not necessarily overtly and intentionally rejecting the first, just not trusting enough to depend on it. Like the old joke about the person that falls off the edge of a cliff, manages to grab onto a branch, and calls for help. He hears a voice, “I’m God, I will save you, just let go of the branch”. He thinks a second and asks, “Is anyone else up there?”

  16. This, of course, is just another of a zillion examples of the leftist end justifying the means. Let’s see . . . let’s choose our end result, a result which is anti-capitalist. Then let’s target those results and claim capitalism should be abolished because it does not reach anti-capitalist ends. That’s like arguing that “My uncle should be euthanized because he is not my aunt.”

May I direct your interest to my recent article at American Thinker (“The Cloistered Acres”) which lays out in direct terms the left’s false premise of economic control?

To paraphrase Barack Obama, I’m not jealous of her other relationships but we’re all better off when Kate Upton spreads the wealth around.

    Steve57 (013200)

  18. Social justice now!

  19. I’m not going to drive traffic to Slate by linking to the article, but one of the top headlines at HotAir this morning (you have to click “all headlines” to see it now since it scrolled off the front page) was Reihan Salam asking the burning question, “Is it racist to only date people of your own race?”

Naturally he answers his own question. Yes.

That’s the natural evolution. If the left can punish Brendan Eich for daring to have his own views on marriage, why can’t the left punish people for having their own views on dating?

And why should the left have all the fun?

It is ageist for Kate Upton to refuse to spend a weekend at a ski chalet with me!

  21. The rapaciousness of the capitalist system will eventually lead to the concentration of the means of production in the hands of a relative few. It will be a slower process than the violence of revolution — whether Marxist or Fascist — but the end result will be the same. The only thing that slows it down is the ability of the oligarchs to control the entire available resources. But they will reach that point eventually. They may then perch precariously on the razor sharp tip of the pyramid for a few centuries but the base will, in time, either collapse or be demolished from under them. There will be famine and slaughter, and attempts to rebuild from the cinders. And that will collapse too. Eventually, humans will have starved themselves or killed themselves off the face of the Earth. It won’t happen as fast as, or like, Malthus said but it will happen.

  22. It reminds me of a line that came out of a college role-playing game of my youth that comes back to me from time to time.

“This problem could easily be solved by the total elimination of all carbon-based life forms.”

    Yes, yes it could.
