MoveOn.org Opposes Senate Health Care Bill

[Guest post by DRJ]

MoveOn.org announced it opposes the Senate health care bill because it does not have a public option, and has sent an email to supporters asking them to contact their Senators. This comes just one day after the AFL-CIO and SEIU criticized the bill for the same reason.

It’s cold in Washington tonight in more ways than the weather.

  1. i should have forwarded one of my copies…..

i registered with them twice, and thus get two of whatever freebies they offer. if enough sensible people did that, we could bleed them dry, one mailing at a time. %-)

  2. Current DC weather radar…… Heh.

Cap & Tax that, you morons!

  3. Moveon supposedly was what drove Dem opposition to Iraq during the Bush years. Does that mean anything here?

  4. redc1c4: I tried that once with the DCCC. They sent me a questionnaire on a self addressed stamped envelope. I filled it out and sent it to them. Problem was, when they received my responses they immediately struck me from their list. I supposed they were tipped off when I answered the following question:

“Do you support a woman’s right to choose”

    with

“Yes — AS LONG AS SHE CHOOSES ME.”

At least my wife thought it was funny.

  5. moveon is easier: you just fill out an online app, and wait for the comedy gold to hit your in box. i occasionally RSVP to whatever local, limited attendance event they are having, but not too often, so that i don’t blow it. i have an amusing collection of Ear Leader trinkets that will eventually be as worthless as they are now. %-)

as a side project, when we get junk mail from the NYT, LA Times, credit card companies, etc, in the mail, i remove any identifying info, and return the letters, cards, etc, in the prepaid envelope, with whatever else is available. since they pay on weight, if enough people did this, direct mail advertising would stop being profitable, and the junk would stop.

  6. Another thing you can do is sign the opt out provision whenever you get a notice of a class action suit. The only thing you’ll get is a gift certificate anyway, and by adding your name to the class, you add to the class action plaintiffs’ paycheck (that’s how class action settlements are structured).

  8. Can’t we just move on from this awful idea?

  9. Now we’ve got a show!

Ah yes. The gang that couldn’t shoot straight never misses, when the target is their own feet. Ya know, when you publicly criticize the very people that you helped bring to power . . . well, look no further than the ’08 election results.

There’s a lesson here for both parties — and both conservatives & liberals — to learn.

  10. Shouldn’t MoveOn, you know, move on? We were supposed to just get over Bill Clinton being a philanderer who lied under oath, they should get over Barack Obama being a spineless political hack who cares only about himself.

  11. Oh, come on chaos, MoveOn still hasn’t Moved On about the 45 Republican Senators who didn’t Move On in 1999. Of course this is a Dem we’re talking about so there is a teensy tiny chance the same standard might not apply.
