Ready to Rumble: President Trump And CNN’s Jim Acosta (Update Added)

Filed under: General — Dana @ 5:19 pm

[guest post by Dana]

Things got contentious between President Trump and CNN’s Jim Acosta at today’s press conference. Jim Acosta, being the reporter “woke” activist that he is, couldn’t resist grandstanding as he challenged the President to debate a number of issues. When the President made it clear that he was done talking to him, Acosta stubbornly continued to push his agenda (yes, agenda):

JIM ACOSTA: Thank you, Mr. President. I want to challenge you on one of the statements that you made in the tail end of the campaign in the midterms.

DONALD TRUMP: Here we go.

ACOSTA: If you don’t mind, Mr. President. That, well, that this caravan was an invasion.

TRUMP: I consider it to be an invasion.

ACOSTA: The caravan was not an invasion. It was a group of migrants moving up from Central America towards the border with the U.S.

TRUMP: Thank you for telling me that. I appreciate it.

ACOSTA: Why did you characterize it as such and —

TRUMP: Because I consider it an invasion. You and I have a difference of opinion.

ACOSTA: But do you think that you demonized immigrants in this election to try to keep them —

TRUMP: Not at all. I want them to come into the country but they have to come in legally. They have to come in, Jim, through a process. I want it to be a process. And I want the people to come in and we need the people.

ACOSTA: Your campaign —

TRUMP: Wait, wait! Wait. You know why we need the people. We had hundreds of companies moving in. We need the people.

ACOSTA: Your campaign had an ad showing migrants climbing over walls and so on.

TRUMP: That’s true. They weren’t actors.

ACOSTA: They aren’t going to be doing that.

TRUMP: Well, no. It was true. Do you think they were actors? They weren’t actors. They didn’t come from Hollywood. These were people — this was an actual, you know, it happened a few days ago and —

ACOSTA: They’re hundreds of miles away. They are hundreds and hundreds of miles away. That’s not an invasion.

TRUMP: Honestly I think you should let me run the country. You run CNN and if you did it well, your ratings would be much higher. Okay, that’s enough.

Tensions increased when a young, female staffer attempted to take the microphone from Acosta and pass it on to another reporter. Unbelievably, Acosta would not relinquish it, and instead pushed the young staffer’s arm away from him to prevent her from taking it:

ACOSTA: If I may ask one more question.

[White House staffer comes and tries to take microphone.]

TRUMP: That’s enough. That’s enough. That’s enough.

ACOSTA: Excuse me, I was going to ask one other question. Pardon me, ma’am.

TRUMP: That’s enough.

ACOSTA: Mr. President, I had one other question if I may ask on the Russia investigation. Are you concerned that you may have —

TRUMP: I’m not concerned about anything with the Russian investigation because it’s a hoax. That’s enough. Put down the mic!

ACOSTA: Mr. President, are you worried about indictments coming down in this investigation? Mr. President —

After warning Acosta five times to be quiet, a visibly angry presdient criticized Acosta in no uncertain terms:

I’ll tell you what, CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN. [To Peter Alexander.] Go ahead. You’re a very rude person. The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible and the way you treat other people is horrible. You shouldn’t treat people that way. Go ahead. Go ahead, Peter.

I sure can’t argue with the President about Acosta behaving rudely and certainly, inappropriately. His supreme arrogance in believing he deserved to continue to be heard – and that America needed to listen to him even if it meant getting physical with a young staffer trying to do her job, is some serious level of douchery. But then, this is Jim Acosta we’re talking about. A reporter who takes pride in needling Trump and his administration:

Kimmel decided to praise Acosta for “tormenting” members of the Trump administration, and Acosta’s response was very telling.

“Well, I’m enjoying you tormenting them, I will say that,” Kimmel said trying to wrap things up. “It’s a small consolation. It really is.”

“It’s a living,” Acosta replied. “It pays the bills.”

After the confrontation between Trump and Acosta, April Ryan, also from CNN, was told by Trump to “sit down” for interrupting:

Acosta then accused Trump of “attacking people of color” at the presser. At different points, Trump told CNN political analyst April Ryan to “sit down” and he accused a PBS Newshour reporter Yamiche Alcindor of asking a “racist” question about him embracing the word “nationalism.” Trump explained that he berated Ryan because she “rudely interrupted” another reporter and Alcindor’s question was “racist” and “insulting.” He defended his relationship with the black community, noting that he has some of “the highest poll numbers” among African-Americans.

Reporter Amber Athey confirmed that Ryan had indeed “rudely interruptedz” another reporter”:

Acosta just accused Trump of “attacking” April Ryan by telling her to sit down. To be clear, April Ryan was shouting out of turn while my colleague @esaagar was attempting to ask the president a question. That’s not supporting your press colleagues, that’s being selfish and rude.

The smug earnestness wafting from Acosta whenever he has a mic in hand, is unavoidable. His evolution is complete: he is no longer just a reporter. Instead, he has risen to loftier heights: The partisan diva now preens and protests, opines, scolds, and most importantly, he nobly resists.

With that, it’s also amusing to see Trump, who himself has offended untold numbers of people, get so offended by a fellow narcissist. Pot meet kettle. Two peas in a pod. But only one of them is the President of the United States.

So how did CNN respond to Jim Acosta’s very inappropriate behavior? About how you would expect. Meet CNN’s next Hero of the Year:

And how is the MSM framing this story? About how you would expect:

Untitled

President Trump, who mistakenly accused (and accuses) the media of being “the enemy of the people,” seemed to have that misconception confirmed today by a clueless goober not smart enough to see how he was feeding the President’s narrative, all because he egotistically sees himself as the captain of the Partisan Debate Team. [Ed. That this happened should not be construed as the President having cleverly played Acosta. Don’t be silly.]

UPDATE: The White House has suspended Jim Acosta’s press pass:

“President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration,” Sanders said in a statement. “We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern. This conduct is absolutely unacceptable. It is also completely disrespectful to the reporter’s colleagues not to allow them an opportunity to ask a question.”

Jim Acosta disagreed with Sanders’ assessment:

  6. Annnnnnddddd, Acosta’s White House press credential has been revoked by the White House. I guess they think making him into a martyr is a good idea. For all I know, maybe they’re right. From Dana’s post, it sounds like even some of Acosta’s colleagues are tired of his (and April Ryan’s) act.

    JVW (42615e)

  7. Has been given plenty of opportunities,

    narciso (d1f714)

  8. Heh!

    nk (dbc370)

  9. If I were writing a biology textbook and had to give a non-biological definition of a symbiotic relationship, I would choose Trump and the White House reporters. He brings out the worst in them, and they bring out the worst in him. And vice-versa. Today’s vocabulary word is “synnecrosis.” Not that Trump or his media adversaries would know it.

    JVW (42615e)

  10. I did not see the presser but I don’t understand this at all, isn’t it up to the President to choose who asks the questions one at a time? Did Trump actually call on this nitwit?

If not, he should just ignore him and point to the reporters who ask questions in a respectful manner.

This is not even newsworthy, this is pure sensationalized baiting and Trump is a fool to participate.

    harkin (f81b2b)

  11. ‘Sleepless And Quite Rattled.’ View the whole 90 minute presser. Grumpy Trumpy was nasty to pretty much every reporter who arose to ask a question; he wasn’t too kind to NBC’s Peter Alexander, either. Our cranky Captain clearly was up too late watching the TeeVee and didn’t get enough sleep. The man-child just couldn’t control himself– nor America’s free press– so he spit insults at reporters for a worldwide audience to enjoy. And Putin smiled…

This post-election presser was as bad and as embarrassing for an America as his performance at Helsinki.

He always forgets he works for us. Acosta and his journalist colleagues were doing their jobs and Trump doesn’t like to be held accountable when questioned. nd now that the House has flipped, he’s going to get a lot more of it. If Donald can’t stand the heat, he best stay out of the East Room, the kitchen– and have those cheeseburgers served in bed.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  12. 10. Since when did Donald J. Trump ever turn down a chance to sensationally bait the news media and his critics? Or did we forget who we’re talking about here?

    Gryph (08c844)

  13. @10. Watch it on C-SPAN. Trump was way out of line; and in fairness to him, he should have gotten some sleep and held the presser in prime time.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  14. The White House has pulled Jim Acosta’s press credentials.

    And Putin smiled… again.

Incredibly stupid move. Never go to war with anybody who buys ink by the barrel — or broadcasts to the planet on every communication device known to man.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  15. The press conference was newsworthy mainly because President Trump accidentally told the truth a few times.

Asked about the Democratic takeover of the House:

“Now, what’s bad for them is being in the majority, I’m just going to blame them. You understand, I’m going to blame them. They’re the majority. Honestly, it makes it much simpler for me.”

    Statesmanship, ladies and gentlemen.

    Dave (9664fc)

  16. Statesmanship, ladies and gentlemen.

Sure. But he’s only saying what Obama spent his final six years doing even though he pretended otherwise. As oafish and crass as Trump can be, there’s a weird honesty to him.

    JVW (42615e)

  17. 11. Oh puh-leez! I’m no Trump apologist, but Acosta was accosting Trump. He wasn’t asking questions so much as he was making statements. The only questions he really asked in the whole time he had that mic were variations on, “I’m right, aren’t I?”

Trump and the press bring out the worst in each other. All else being equal, if he had just run as a Dem, they’d love him and you know it.

    Gryph (08c844)

  18. Acosta: The caravan was not an invasion. It was a group of migrants moving up from Central America towards the border with the U.S.

    No media bias here.

    AZ Bob (885937)

  19. i think mr. putin has a very nice smile

but nobody has a nicer smile than mr. trump, the president, and that is why i love him

    nk (dbc370)

  20. Enemy of the Truth.

    AZ Bob (885937)

  21. 13. I disagree. All reporters in the press gaggles are, always have been, and always shall be there at the pleasure of the President. If Trump were to kick every one of those lousy bastards out of the White House, it would not be a violation of the 1st amendment in the slightest iota; they have no right or entitlement to be there.

    Gryph (08c844)

  22. He always forgets he works for us. Acosta and his journalist colleagues were doing their jobs. . .

I hate it when you make me defend Trump (didn’t you, DCSCA, unlike me, actually vote for the guy?) but let me say this: claiming that Acosta was only doing his job is like defending the cop who sees you near the scene of a crime, stops you, frisks you, demands ID, demands to search your car, makes you sit there as he runs a check on you, calls in the sergeant on duty, has him repeat the same questions that he already asked of you, then finally lets you go when he determines he doesn’t have any evidence to detain you. He’s “only doing his job” you see.

And you are right, Trump works for us. And many of us want to see Jim Acosta be told publicly by a powerful and influential figure that he is a complete horse’s ass.

    JVW (42615e)

  23. there’s a weird honesty to him

    I’d call it “shamelessness”.

    Dave (9664fc)

  24. @21. That wasn’t a mere press gaggle- that was a press conference in the East Room of the White House televised live around the planet. It’s America’s house– not his. It ain’t Trump Tower.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  25. 22. This. If Trump is willing to tell Acosta where to stick his righteous indignation, he IS working for me. 😉

    Gryph (08c844)

  26. Meanwhile a mob stakes out tucker Carlson’s house, heck he’s just an un person, what does it matter.

    Narciso (de974d)

  27. 24. Oh whatever. Even under the presumption that it’s the people’s house, the reporters STILl have no 1st amendment right to be there to fisk the president — whoever that is. To pretend that they do is to elevate them in importance way beyond their actual job — which is to tell us what is happening in the world.

    Gryph (08c844)

  28. As oafish and crass as Trump can be, there’s a weird honesty to him.

Honesty is the wrong word to use where Trump is concerned. Guilelessness is probably more apt, if not exactly right. As I was saying three years ago when we first started arguing about him, Trump’s dissembling is more due to his laziness and intellectual incuriousness than some version of Clintonian master scheming or Obama’s limited understanding of how the real world works.

    JVW (42615e)

  29. “Shamelessness” is good too, Dave.

    JVW (42615e)

  30. I think that he’s just a blabbermouth.

    nk (dbc370)

  31. 28. Why bother with guile when you have an army of accountants, security guards, and millions of dollars of Daddy Trump’s money that you can skate through life on? Everything from his earliest days as a trust fund baby has been handed to Donald J. Trump. That’s what we used to hate in celebrities and politicians until one had the bare minimum of intelligence to run for office with an “R” behind his name.

    Gryph (08c844)

  32. 31. I left out lawyers. Accountants, security guards, and lawyers.

    Gryph (08c844)

  33. That’s what we used to hate in celebrities and politicians until one had the bare minimum of intelligence to run for office with an “R” behind his name.

Yep. We spent eight years rolling our eyes over the celebrity President and his weird cult of personality, only to elect our own first chance that we got.

    JVW (42615e)

  34. Let’s also be clear about one very important factor in all this: Jim Acosta did not have his press credentials suspended for being a douchbag, which he was, or asking hard questions, which he did not. His press credentials were suspended because he assaulted the White House Staffer who attempted to take his mic from him after he spent nearly two minutes attempting to bushwhack the president like a common antifa protester.

Or am I missing something here, and it’s okay to lay your hands on a woman in anger now?

    Gryph (08c844)

  35. Or am I missing something here, and it’s okay to lay your hands on a woman in anger now?

I’m pretty sure the administration’s policy is that reporters are supposed to receive beat-downs, not hand them out.

    Dave (9664fc)

  36. 35. Okay. Nowhere and at no time do I ever remember Donald Trump or any of his staffers suggesting this. God, I feel so dirty. Every time I defend Trump I feel like I need another hot shower.

    Gryph (08c844)

  37. @22. My vote was strategic; to neuter the modern conservative movement; you know that and so far, so good. Acosta was doing his job, JVW, as were his colleagues who were insulted and ridiculed today. That you don’t particularly like how Acosta does his is your opinion. And you can avoid him w/a remote and mute button. But pretty much all of the reporters there today in the East Room of the White House were subjected to the spitting insults from Grumpy Trumpy. The man should sleep more. And he was a fool for doing it. It just made him look all that much smaller to the eyes of the world. Helsinki Redux.

Your personal choice in consuming television news is yours to make- it’s a wonderful thing to have– you can always mute CNN and Acosta- when he’s on screen or just not watch CNN ever. Acosta– and his colleagues- are routinely attacked by ‘powerful and influential people’- that goes w/t job. But yanking Acosta’s WH press credentials for doing his job is just petty and foolish. It makes Trump look smaller, thin skinned– and cornered.

I try to avoid all Fox News because of its conservative biases but certainly would not advocate yanking their press credentials from reporting on any government function. I’ve been to a place or two where there is no free press. When it ain’t around, you miss it fast.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  38. 37. Yanking press credentials for reporting from the White House is not a violation of free press rights. I reject that premise, and ergo can not continue debating from a false premise. Reporters have no right to be in the White House. Shee-it, even if I’m going on a tour, I have to have the proper credentials before I can do so. “People’s house,” eh? Security’s awfully tight to call it that. SMDH

    Gryph (08c844)

  39. I thought Carter should have kicked all of CBS’s correspondents out of the White House press corps at about day three of Cronkite’s “the xth day of the Iran embassy hostages” mantra.

    nk (dbc370)

  40. I’ve updated the post, noting that Acosta’s White House press pass has been suspended due to his hands-on behavior, among other things. Acosta claims it’s a lie.

    Dana (023079)

    Gryph (08c844) — 11/7/2018 @ 6:23 pm

    Gryph,

According to Sanders, that was in part why it was suspended (see update to post):

“President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration,” Sanders said in a statement. “We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern. This conduct is absolutely unacceptable. It is also completely disrespectful to the reporter’s colleagues not to allow them an opportunity to ask a question.”

    Dana (023079)

  42. @34/37. Yes- you’re missing a lot – watch the whole 90 minute presser. You’re confusing ‘assault’ with insult’ – and the Orange One was peeling them off to everyone for the world to see. Sheesh. Grumpy Trumpy was just a cranky Captain today; he was up too late– likely watching CNN. He obviously needed another six hours of sleep. He embarrassed himself- and the United States. Again. Helsinki Redux.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  43. ‘President Trump believes in a free press…’ and blah, blah, blah. ROFLMAO Sanders is not a credible source on anything. Watch the presser. Grumpy Trumpy needs to sleep more.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  44. 35. Okay. Nowhere and at no time do I ever remember Donald Trump or any of his staffers suggesting this.

I understand. It’s difficult (and exhausting) to keep up with every toxic thing he says and does.

    37. Yanking press credentials for reporting from the White House is not a violation of free press rights. I reject that premise, and ergo can not continue debating from a false premise. Reporters have no right to be in the White House.

That’s correct, however, given that the White House admits some reporters, discrimination on the basis of protected speech might be inconsistent with the First Amendment. I’m not saying that’s what happened here (if Acosta was suspended for being disorderly or violating rules that apply to everyone, which it sounds like he was).

I’m not a lawyer (need I say it) but my understanding is that the government cannot discriminate against or favor people based on the content of their protected speech. So if a FoxNews reporter also held onto the microphone (presumably so he or she could praise Trump a little longer), and wasn’t disciplined, while Acosta was, that might be viewpoint discrimination and potentially (theoretically) unconstitutional.

    Dave (9664fc)

  45. A White House correspondent for Reuters backs up Acosta’s claim. See update.

    Dana (023079)

  46. I watched the entire thing real time, as noted earlier today. Trump was civil to the reporters who didn’t show attitude and he treated those who did unsparingly. He was honest about it all. The WH press is, on the hole, a pack of ‘holes. An utter disgrace.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  47. And the episode is pissing off all the right people here. Phony, sneering pricks, you all deserve each other.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  48. Acosta was clearly out of line. There is no defense of his behavior.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  49. 44. Potentially — theoretically — unconstitutional. Not unconstitutional, but potentially and theoretically so. That’s just what I’d love. That’s just what I need more of; lawyers to tell me what my rights are and aren’t.

You can deal in theoreticals all day long. Personally I would love to see Acosta sue the White House for his press privileges. He would fail miserably since kicking him out of the White House is in no way shape or form an abridgement of his press rights. I reject any “theoretical” or “potential” scenario in which such an argument is made.

Acosta is a martyr for the press now and he can go and say anything he wants without fear of legal reprisal. Hell, since Trump is a most public of public figures, Acosta would have very little to realistically fear from a defamation lawsuit. And Acosta knows it. That’s how free speech really works in America, Ladies and Gentlemen; we err on the side of freedom. No empty verbal threats from a Republican trust fund baby-celebrity-president will change the truth of that.

    Gryph (08c844)

  50. And the episode is pissing off all the right people here. Phony, sneering pricks, you all deserve each other.

    That is completely uncalled-for.

    Dave (9664fc)

  51. @46. So did I; Grumpy Trumpy was hardly civil to anyone. He even chided a reporter for quipping about Oprah. The cranky Great Pumpkin was bordering on incoherency from lack of sleep, spitting insults at virtually every reporter- even claiming racist questions. Unreal. It was obvious the man stayed up too late watching election returns. He succeeded in embarrassing himself, his office and the United States on global TV. Again. A disgusting performance; Helsinki Redux.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  52. 45. If the White House (as embodied in President Trump) kicked out Acosta because they didn’t like his hairstyle or the shape of his left earlobe, they are well within their rights to do so. Ugh. Time for a hot shower.

    Gryph (08c844)

  53. Well, Acosta learned his lesson. Don’t pick a fight with a cranky old man who can yank your White House pass.

    nk (dbc370)

  54. 51. On that, you and I agree. I haven’t watched Trump give a public speech or press conference of any kind since about a month after his inauguration. Honestly, I go out of my way to avoid listening to the man talk. That doesn’t change the fact that Acosta’s rights have not been violated. He has no right to be in a press pool/gaggle/conference of any kind. It’s a privilege that can be and has been revoked in this and other previous administrations.

    Gryph (08c844)

  55. @45. Watch the whole presser. It was a 90 minute national embarrassment broadcast to the world. The only sincere slack worth cutting for Trump on this is that it was obvious to any one watching that the man hadn’t gotten enough sleep. He should have held off the presser until prime time– unless he feared anticipated questions about Sessions’ departure.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  56. Keep in mind that this is the same Jim Acosta who started whining when the public started razzing him at Trump rallies. Apparently his showboating in White House press conferences is a vital instrument of democracy and a tribute to the magnificence of the First Amendment, but when ordinary citizens exercise their right and tell him in public exactly what they think of him (undeniably Acosta is a public figure, by the way) then that’s a threat to democracy. If you guys want to defend this overpaid preening crybaby then that’s your business. I say that both he and Trump deserve each other.

    JVW (42615e)

  57. @56. One man’s whine is another man’s journalism. Why keep tabs on a reporter you dislike– just ignore him.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  58. “And the episode is pissing off all the right people here. Phony, sneering pricks, you all deserve each other.”

    – Colonel Haiku

Yeah, I hope you get banned for that under the new commenting policy.

    Leviticus (1e8028)

  59. Acosta isn’t smart enough to know or care when he’s out of line. He’s a prima donna, as are several of his biased, unqualified, clueless comrades. They all have that unquenchable desire to be the story and to see themselves and – more importantly – have others see them as the heroic victim. Just another symptom of the rapid, vapid decline of “journolism”.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  60. He has no right to be in a press pool/gaggle/conference of any kind.

I just explained this. The government cannot deny reporters access to press conferences because they are uncomplimentary or critical of the administration. (And again, I don’t think that’s the full story of what happened in this specific instance, but still).

Isn’t it pretty clear that if the government can systematically deny or limit the opportunity of reporters who are critics to do their jobs, they are limiting the freedom of the press? First, by preventing unwanted questions from being asked, and second by sending the message to journalists that being critical of the government will harm their career prospects (and effectively coercing them toward a more pliable attitude).

    Dave (9664fc)

  61. Let me apologize for that overly harsh judgment and strike that last sentence.

And the episode is pissing off all the right people here. Phony, sneering pricks, you all deserve each other.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  62. Did acosta deny the 250 felons in the caravan, the four Bangladeshis (these are the ones that admitted to being there) of course not these people partied with avenatti and bought every ridiculous slander some of whom nadler still plans to use against cavanaugh.

    Narciso (de974d)

  63. The government cannot deny reporters access to press conferences because they are uncomplimentary or critical of the administration.

Do you have a case citation for this proposition?

    nk (dbc370)

  64. I watched Acosta wrestle the mic back from the staffer charged with maintaining the decorum that meant so little to Acosta. He was out of line.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  65. Top story on rt.com: Acosta denied access to White House.

    And Putin smiled…

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  66. Reprehensible is the descriptive that best fits the behavior of Acosta and several others.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  67. i think mr. putin has a very nice smile

but nobody has a nicer smile than mr. trump, the president, and that is why everybody loves him

    nk (dbc370)

  68. It was shocking and I am not one to be easily shocked. Amused sometimes, yes, but not shocked. There is no place for that in these circumstances.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  69. Melania could save the day if she’d just issue a press release stating:

“Donald is not a morning person.”

    Lots of women could confirm.

    DCSCA (797bc0)

  70. What does acosta does he file story, does he elicit info, or does he just be clown himself like he did with Stephen Miller, that was a year back.

    Narciso (de974d)

  71. I don’t blame Trump one bit for this one…Acosta is a prima donna who won’t engage in good faith.

For the life of me, Trump’s personality trait is someone who wants people/press to like him. This was one of my greatest fears when he won on 2016 is that, Democrats and Democrat-supporting media would stroke his ego to pass their agenda. Yet… they simply still “CAN’T EVEN” that he won, and thus can’t help themselves in #ResistingTrump.

    whembly (d40ad5)

  72. So, I didn’t see Acosta’s open hand push down on the interns arm near her elbow when she reached for the microphone? Good to know my eyes are liars.

    Rich (de9149)

  73. Don’t harsh their narrative, Rich!

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  74. Acosta raped that young staffer way harder than Mr. Kavanaugh ever did on that Christine chick that’s for sure

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  75. They lie in our faces, Haiku, because they think that what they report is The Record and that there’s not a thing we can do about it.

    nk (dbc370)

  76. Rather curious Trump didn’t discuss Sessions’ exit today but instead made sure the Acosta squabble continued on into the night after the news cycle ended.

    Dana (023079)

  77. Again, the Enemy of the Truth.

    AZ Bob (885937)

  78. Oh, come on:

“…Acosta raped that young staffer way harder than Mr. Kavanaugh ever did on that Christine chick that’s for sure…”

    Beldar is so right.

    Simon Jester (2eda7b)

  79. An inapt metaphor but since were at peak crazy fitting in a strange way when a serial abuser is actually the law enforcement official in one state, satire is dead as Tom lehr put it

    Narciso (de974d)

  80. Oh wait that doesn’t matter because something gloria Allred conjured up last year, or something trump said 12 years ago

    Narciso (de974d)

  81. All this is going on and Patterico is… MIA? What a shame.

Leviticus, I stand with you on “I hope you get banned for that under the new commenting policy.”

    Tillman (61f3c8)

  82. The media didn’t get their Blue Wave and now they are fit to be tied. Something changed today.

    You are so right, nk.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  83. President Trump, who mistakenly accused (and accuses) the media of being “the enemy of the people,”

He did not accuse “the media.” He accused “The Fake News Media.”

You know, the ones who misquote him to imply he said something which he didn’t. Those.

    Munroe (d106af)

  84. I stand with you on “”I hope you get banned” Jesus. What’s with all the thin skins? Grow a pair.

I’m getting too old to enjoy playing childish games. Life is too short to trade insults with people. If they can’t handle the truth, it’s their problem. Make America Eight Again, margie.

    Tillman (61f3c8)

  87. Looked like Acosta put the famous Lewandowski move on her.

    mg (9e54f8)

  88. Acosta is the lowest muckraker of them all. He uses the 1st Amendment as a shield while he lies and distorts the truth for partisan gain. He and his fellow indoctrinationists are no different than Pravda.

    NJRob (1d7532)

  89. Creepy porn lawyer/Acosta/2020

    mg (9e54f8)

  90. Haiku,

I tire of the virtue signalling as well. If it was Rubio tossing Acosta out on his keister for being a smug troll, the same response would happen. People cheer Acosta because they are partisans. They also cheered Obama putting Fox News in the closet.

    NJRob (1d7532)

Your snide, condescending remarks to margaret are a violation of the terms of this site.

    NJRob (1d7532)

  92. Acosta is more about political theater than political news. A few months back, Acosta put out this dishonest tweet about Trump not answering his questions, when the reality was that Acosta was way in the back of the room, where his questions were not heard in the first place. Good riddance for Acosta.

    Paul Montagu (4575b4)

  93. No surprise the son of azz grabbing president sides with Acosta. You are a classic enabler, Jeb.

    mg (9e54f8)

  94. It’s weird, margaret.

    mg (9e54f8)

  95. Rob, although it’s hard to even picture it ever happening, this sort of behavior would be just as unacceptable if it were Barack Obama up front fielding questions. Doesn’t matter who the POTUS is, that was unacceptable.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0)

  96. The intern should have kicked him in the gonads.

    mg (9e54f8)

  97. Rob, although it’s hard to even picture it ever happening, this sort of behavior would be just as unacceptable if it were Barack Obama up front fielding questions. Doesn’t matter who the POTUS is, that was unacceptable.

    Colonel Haiku (2601c0) — 11/7/2018 @ 10:21 pm

It never would’ve happened to Obama because the rest of the media would’ve jeered the questioner and then threatened him till he left.

    NJRob (1d7532)

  98. They could have used a younger version of that Whitaker guy as the microphone aide. People would behave real quick.

    urbanleftbehind (22b95a)

  99. Here’s the Russia Today thingie DCSCA mentioned. You have to leave the audio on to appreciate it.

    nk (dbc370)

  100. And nk smiled.

    nk (dbc370)

  101. “It was obvious that Acosta was not there for an answer. He was there to call the president a hateful racist and to argue.”

……..“After another series of insinuations disguised as questions about hostility and hate crimes, the president was asked — or rather, informed — by PBS reporter Yamiche Alcindor, “On the campaign trail you called yourself a nationalist. Some people saw that as emboldening white nationalists. Now people are also saying that the Republican Party is seen as supporting white nationalists because of your rhetoric.”

“That’s such a racist question,” Trump answered. “To say that is so insulting to me.”

Trump was wrong, of course. Not about Alcindor’s racist assumptions and obvious insult. But it wasn’t a question at all. For most of the White House press corps, it was their press conference, to spread their message, not his. And that would be the accumulation of smears they threw at him.”

    http://www.bostonherald.com/news/columnists/tom_shattuck/2018/11/trump_fends_off_being_acostad_by_the_media

    Pretty much.

    harkin (f81b2b)

  102. I did not realize Trump ran the country. As President, I thought he ran the government but if he is now running the country, at a minimum he should stop playing golf.

    DRJ (15874d)

  103. PBS is deeply racist but they’re also intensely anti-semitic (they hate jews)

let’s not let that get lost here

    happyfeet (28a91b)

  104. I don’t have a problem with banning Acosta–he has an agenda that is intensely partisan, and he stopped being a reporter a long time ago. Let CNN send someone else who can at least ask questions that aren’t loaded and designed to support the Democrat talking point of the day.

    Rochf (877dba)

  105. The White House has been circulating a doctored video from InfoWars to justify Acosta’s double-secret probation…

    Dave (9664fc)

  106. It’s just as likely that Reuters doctored its video. Maybe more likely. It doesn’t matter, either way. It should not have been necessary to wrestle the microphone away from Acosta. That’s when he crossed the line.

    nk (dbc370)

  107. And I hope that they do not reinstate him. Let him do interviews of puppies: “I’m going to challenge you. You knew you must go on the paper. But you did not, did you? Don’t bark at me! I’m not the enemy of dogkind. I’m just doing my job.”

    nk (dbc370)

  108. MSM reporters not only lie about the news, they lie about what happens under their own eyes. Remember Michelle Fields – she was “Brutally yanked to the ground” – by Corey Lewondowski and her press buddies agreed – they’d been right next to her!

    But it was a LIE.

Now, Acosta refused to give up the microphone. He had physical contact with the young woman. He should be suspended – for ever. Until he apologizes.

    rcocean (1a839e)

  109. So of course the Left MSM refuse to criticize Acosta and his childish, unprofessional behavior – instead their yacking about the video!

These people have no truth in them. Nobody with any brains believes them when they report on Trump

    rcocean (1a839e)

  110. Infowars’ first draft of the video showing Acosta “assaulting” that intern was probably a bit much. Good thing they took a subtler approach, not that it actually worked.

Trump’s dissembling is more due to his laziness and intellectual incuriousness than some version of Clintonian master scheming or Obama’s limited understanding of how the real world works.

It may be true in many cases – he just doesn’t care to get things right – but I think he also goes for what an uninformed audience would cheer for.

every ridiculous slander some of whom nadler still plans to use against cavanaugh.

I wonder if he’ll really do that, because that could be the best thingg to underrmine the Democratic Party. I mean you mighht find out all about where the lies came from, and Christine Blasey Ford might even get indicted ror perjury.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/national/wp/2018/09/27/kavanaugh-hearing-transcript

MITCHELL: OK. Have you been in – are you aware that the three people at the party besides yourself and — and Brett Kavanaugh have given statements under penalty of felony to the committee?

    FORD: Yes.

MITCHELL: And are you aware of what those statements say?

    FORD: Yes.

MITCHELL: Are you aware that they say that they have no memory or knowledge of such a party?

    FORD: Yes.

MITCHELL: OK. Do you have any particular motives to ascribe to Leland?

FORD: I guess we could take those one at a time. Leland has significant health challenges, and I’m happy that she’s focusing on herself and getting the health treatment that she needs, and she let me know that she needed her lawyer to take care of this for her, and she texted me right afterward with an apology and good wishes, and et cetera, So I’m glad that she’s taking

    care of herself.

I think the second FBI background check included a statement from Leland Keyser that that didn’t happen. She did not text her an apology and attribute her lawyer the statement that: “Simply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford,”

    Sammy Finkelman (102c75)

  114. Wired thoroughly went through the Acosta-intern video and, yep, it was “altered in a way that is misleading and dramatizes events.”

    Paul Montagu (4575b4)

  115. Paul,

altered in a way that is misleading because it zooms in and repeats an incident? Is instant replay altering video?

There’s a side by side on Hot Air that proves Wired FoS. But partisans gotta partisan and Wired is definitely partisan.

Then Wired goes on to quote others to give them the money shot that it’s been altered. But no one can actually say it is because the side by side is there. But partisans gotta partisan.

P.S. Wired admits at the beginning of the article that they cannot say it’s been altered, then waste the rest of the article trying to disprove their own statement.
