Unbelievable: 12-Year Old Boy Is Latest SWATting Victim
[guest post by Dana]
When a 12-year old finds himself being SWATted, it’s got to be particularly terrifying:
A 12-year-old YouTube gamer and his mother became “swatting” victims and were terrified when their home was suddenly surrounded by police.
Peter Varady was frightened and tearful as the paramedics and police showed up at his home.
“It was probably the scariest moment of my life,” he said.
His mother, Carol Varady, said they opened the door and authorities rushed into the home believing it was a disturbance call.
It happened Sunday night as Peter, known online as Rolly, was livestreaming.
Authorities rushed through the home after getting a 911 call that a mother and son were going to hang themselves.
The report goes onto say, given that Peter has more than 100,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel, the chances of him getting SWATted again are increased. That, as well as the fact that the police haven’t yet located the individual who made the 911 call and threatened to do it again.

I can’t imagine being this parent and discovering my son was the intended target of such a vile act. I wonder if this will cause her (and his dad, if he’s around) to re-think the kid’s YouTube account access/internet usage?

Allow the SWAT-mediated heckler’s veto, or push back hard? Hard time hard. It all depends, what kind of society do you want for your grandchildren?
phunctor (b2de2c) — 2/21/2018 @ 8:22 amSheeit! Sixteen-year olds throw cement blocks off highway overpasses and kill people driving by underneath and the soft-headed liberals chorus that they’re only kids and it was only a prank.

If Accountability is not ingrained by age say, 25, it aint gonna happen.
The Cruz zygote is an example.

Rev.Hoagie (6bbda7) — 2/21/2018 @ 9:12 amBy 25? You’re kidding me. At 18 I was killin’ commies in Nam. If one is not accountable by 16 he should be institutionalized. Hell, Alexander was a mere teen when he ruled and twenty five hundred years later we expect less from our offspring? Yeah, that’s progress.
What a horrible thing to do to someone, especially a child. What’s the penalty for having that done to someone, anyway? I know that it probably differs by state, but I hope that it’s a big price to pay.

Ben burn (b3d5ab) — 2/21/2018 @ 9:22 am3. nk condemns a whole generation based upon the actions of 3 or 4 of them.
Tillman (a95660) — 2/21/2018 @ 9:28 amFor some, everything is partisan.
Usually, they are not good at taking accountability for themselves.
Ben burn (b3d5ab) — 2/21/2018 @ 9:33 amIt’s a pet hate.
Ben burn (b3d5ab) — 2/21/2018 @ 9:33 amnk, I was wrong, I take that back. That’s not really what you said. But I don’t know anyone saying that they should go lightly on those 16 year-olds. They’re old enough to know better than that.

BfC (5517e8) — 2/21/2018 @ 9:55 amBfC, so you don’t expect a father to try to defend his son? Of course I think that’s to be expected. But that’s hardly a beacon of society’s fallen ways.
Tillman (a95660) — 2/21/2018 @ 10:47 amIf you are in the entertainment industry you may understand. This kid being on Youtube is no different than being a Disney Star or on American Idol contestant. They all take risks certain risks with fame. Anyways I have been following this story and I know this kid is going to make it big, it sucks these pranksters are trying to ruin his dream.
all positive (507933) — 2/21/2018 @ 8:51 pm@dana he’s not just a target to a vile act he is also a mini celebrity and an inspiration to many people. If you look at his comments from his fans they don’t want him to quit and they all love him. It’s a tough call for any parent but I am sure will do the right thing just like any of us would. We all want the best for all of our children.
all positive (507933) — 2/21/2018 @ 8:57 pm@all positive You are 100% right. I have friend’s who’s kids are YouTubers so I understand. Who is to judge what your child wants to do and the parent support their dream? How many kids die or end up with brain damage from playing football? People are quick to judge because of what society says without rationalizing a situation.
KS (507933) — 2/21/2018 @ 8:59 pm@KS That’s GREAT. All the kids in my family watch hours on end of YouTube in some way or fashion. We all depend on Youtube for answers at some point, it’s the best way for me to fix anything in my house DIY LOL I am so happy to hear that a 12 year old is experiencing his lifetime goal. It’s a shame that people have to ruin it for him but they did the right thing to bring awareness to other parents so they can protect their children. Before this story I had no idea of these pranks. I try to look at the positive in all situations and I wish more people didn’t have to look at things through cracked glasses.
all positive (507933) — 2/21/2018 @ 9:26 pmAre you
twofor a real sockpuppet, or a satire sockpuppet, (507933)?If your point is that Gamers and YouTubers are sick puppies — pale, pudgy, pimply, sick puppies as a matter of fact — we already know that.
nk (dbc370) — 2/21/2018 @ 10:05 pmI was just updating the story/provided that NK related.
I looked for any “…soft-headed liberals chorus that they’re only kids and it was only a prank”… I did not find anyone with a quick search (other than one of the fathers) that was attempting to minimize the actor’s responsibilities.
I did not make any observations about what the father was saying. I hope to never be in the position those parents found themselves. Not being the “first to cast a stone” seems to be a bit too spot on.
But for the grace of God…
